Item type:Item, Estimating Percent Crystallinity of Polyethylene as a Function of Temperature by Raman Spectroscopy Multivariate Curve Resolution by Alternating Least Squares(2017-03-07) ;Samuel, Ashok Zachariah ;Lai, Bo-Han ;Lan, Shih-Ting ;Ando, MasahiroWang, Chien-LungWe have recently demonstrated a methodology to estimate the percent crystallinity (PC) of polymers directly with Raman spectroscopy and multivariate curve resolution (MCR) by alternating least-squares (ALS). In the MCR-ALS methodology, the Raman spectrum of a semicrystalline polymer is separated into two constituent components (crystalline and molten/amorphous) and their corresponding concentrations. The methodology necessitates that the Raman spectrum at any temperature be a linear combination of two MCR spectral components (one molten and one crystalline). This is true in the case of simple systems such as crystalline pendant alkyl domains in polymers (Samuel et al. Anal. Chem. 2016, 88, 4644). However, in the case of main chain polymer crystals (e.g., polyethylene), the situation can be complicated owing to several molecular changes in the lattice in addition to conformational reorganizations during melting. Under this circumstance, a simple two-state model may not be adequate and we describe the modifications required to treat such systems, keeping the basic principles of the proposed methodology unchanged. A comparative study with wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) and Raman spectroscopy is also performed to substantiate our findings. In addition to estimating percent crystallinity (PC), our methodology is capable of revealing additional information, such as interchain interactions in crystal lattice, that in principle will help distinguishing polymorphic transformations, subtle changes in lamellar lattice dimensions, and other phase changes in polymers.Item type:Item, Probing Skin for Metabolites and Topical Drugs with Hydrogel Micropatches(2017-03-07) ;Dutkiewicz, Ewelina P. ;Chiu, Hsien-Yi ;Urban, Pawel L. ;應用化學系應用化學系分子科學碩博班Sampling the skin surface is a convenient way to obtain biological specimens bearing clinically relevant information. The unusual mesopore embedded BST films exhibit the highest power factor of similar to 33 mu W cm(-1) K-2, which is comparable to or higher than the previously reported values for BST, and the corresponding relatively low thermal diffusivity in contrast to that for dense pore-less BST films evidently reveals the crucial role of the three-dimensionally and densely arranged air-solid interfaces in significantly arising the phonon scattering.Item type:Item, Luminance enhancement in quantum dot light-emitting diodes fabricated with Field's metal as the cathode(2017-03-08) ;Basilio, Carlos ;Oliva, Jorge ;Lopez-Luke, Tzarara ;Pu, Ying-ChihZhang, Jin Z.This work reports the fabrication and characterization of blue-green quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) by using core/shell/shell Cd1-xZnxSe/ZnSe/ZnS quantum dots. Poly [(9,9-bis(3'-(N, N-dimethylamino) propyl)-2,7-fluorene)-alt-2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene)] (PFN) was introduced in order to enhance the electron injection and also acted as a protecting layer during the deposition of the cathode (a Field's metal sheet) on the organic/inorganic active layers at low temperature (63 degrees C). This procedure permitted us to eliminate the process of thermal evaporation for the deposition of metallic cathodes, which is typically used in the fabrication of OLEDs. The performance of devices made with an aluminum cathode was compared with that of devices which employed Field's metal (FM) as the cathode. We found that the luminance and efficiency of devices with FM was similar to 70% higher with respect to those that employed aluminum as the cathode and their consumption of current was similar up to 13 V. We also demonstrated that the simultaneous presence of 1,2-ethanedethiol (EDT) and PFN enhanced the luminance in our devices and improved the current injection in QD-LEDs. Hence, the architecture for QD-LEDs presented in this work could be useful for the fabrication of low-cost luminescent devices.Item type:Item, USE OF KNOWN COMPOUNDS AS D-AMINO ACID OXIDASE INHIBITORS(2017-03-08) ;TSENG, Yufeng, Jane ;LIU, Yu-Li ;SUN, Chung-Ming ;HWU, Hai-GwoLIU, Chih-MinItem type:Item, Highly Sensitive Aluminum-Based Biosensors using Tailorable Fano Resonances in Capped Nanostructures(2017-03-08) ;Lee, Kuang-Li ;Hsu, Hsuan-Yeh ;You, Meng-Lin ;Chang, Chia-ChunPan, Ming-YangMetallic nanostructure-based surface plasmon sensors are capable of real-time, label-free, and multiplexed detections for chemical and biomedical applications. Recently, the studies of aluminum-based biosensors have attracted a large attention because aluminum is a more cost-effective metal and relatively stable. However, the intrinsic properties of aluminum, having a large imaginary part of the dielectric function and a longer evanescent length, limit its sensing capability. Here we show that capped aluminum nanoslits fabricated on plastic films using hot embossing lithography can provide tailorable Fano resonances. Changing height of nanostructures and deposited metal film thickness modulated the transmission spectrum, which varied from Wood's anomaly-dominant resonance, asymmetric Fano profile to surface plasmon-dominant resonance. For biolayer detections, the maximum surface sensitivity occurred at the dip of asymmetric Fano profile. The optimal Fano factor was close to -1.3. The wavelength and intensity sensitivities for surface thickness were up to 2.58 nm/nm and 90%/nm, respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) of thickness reached 0.018 nm. We attributed the enhanced surface sensitivity for capped aluminum nanoslits to a reduced evanescent length and sharp slope of the asymmetric Fano profile. The protein-protein interaction experiments verified the high sensitivity of capped nanostructures. The LOD was down to 236 fg/mL.Item type:Item, Plasmon-induced photoelectrochemical biosensor for in situ real-time measurement of biotin-streptavidin binding kinetics under visible light irradiation(2017-03-08) ;Guo, Jingchun ;Oshikiri, Tomoya ;Ueno, Kosei ;Shi, XuMisawa, HiroakiWe developed a localized surface plasmon-induced visible light-responsive photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor using a titanium dioxide (TiO2) photoelectrode loaded with gold nanoislands (AuNIs) for in situ real-time measurement of biotin-streptavidin association. As a proof of concept, self-assembled thiol-terminated biotin molecules bound on a AuNls/TiO2 photoelectrode were successfully utilized to explore the photocurrent response to streptavidin-modified gold nanoparticle (STA-AuNP) solutions. This plasmon-induced PEC biosensor is simple and easy to miniaturize. Additionally, the PEC biosensor achieves highly sensitive measurements under only visible light irradiation and prevents the UV-induced damage of samples. Furthermore, a novel approach has been proposed to realize the real-time monitoring of biotin-STA binding affinities and kinetics by analyzing the PEC sensing characteristics. This PEC biosensor and novel analysis method could provide a new approach for the specific electrical detection and real-time kinetic measurements for clinical diagnostics and drug development. This process generally caused dehydration within 1 min through a column reactor charged with HO-SAS. The flow dehydration was sequenced by flow hydrogenation, which resulted in the synthesis of pristane. A scalable flow synthesis of pristane was successfully performed and afforded 10 g of pristane after an operation of 2 h. We also performed dehydration and hydrogenation by using a mixed column of HO-SAS and 10 % Pd/C.Item type:Item, 思覺失調 汙名抹掉(2017-03-12) ;林宥成 ;Department of Communication and Technology傳播與科技學系思覺失調就是以前所謂的精神分裂,應該深入理解此類常見的精神疾病,不應給予歧視與汙名化。 Item type:Item,
