Item type:Item, Solving the integration problem of one transistor one memristor architecture with a Bi-layer IGZO film through synchronous process(2018-04-23) ;Chang, Che-Chia ;Liu, Po-Tsun ;Chien, Chen-Yu ;Fan, Yang-Shun電子工程學系及電子研究所This study demonstrates the integration of a thin film transistor (TFT) and resistive random-access memory (RRAM) to form a one-transistor-one-resistor (1T1R) configuration. With the concept of the current conducting direction in RRAM and TFT, a triple-layer stack design of Pt/InGaZnO/Al2O3 is proposed for both the switching layer of RRAM and the channel layer of TFT. This proposal decreases the complexity of fabrication and the numbers of photomasks required. Also, the robust endurance and stable retention characteristics are exhibited by the 1T1R architecture for promising applications in memory-embedded flat panel displays. The DUV LED utilizes a specifically designed superlattice p-type electron blocking layer (p-EBL). The superlattice p-EBL enables a high hole concentration in the p-EBL which correspondingly increases the hole injection efficiency into the multiple quantum wells (MQWs). The enhanced hole concentration within the MQW region can more efficiently recombine with electrons in the way of favoring the radiative recombination, leading to a reduced electron leakage current level. As a result the external quantum efficiency for the proposed DUV LED structure is increased by 100% and the nearly efficiency-droop-free DUV LED structure is obtained experimentally.Item type:Item, Increased Risk of Psychiatric Disorders in Allergic Diseases: A Nationwide, Population-Based, Cohort Study(2018-04-24) ;Tzeng, Nian-Sheng ;Chang, Hsin-An ;Chung, Chi-Hsiang ;Kao, Yu-ChenChang, Chuan-ChiaBackground/objective: Allergic diseases, such as bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and psychiatric disorders, are major health issues. There have been reports that allergic diseases were associated with depression or anxiety disorders. This study aimed to investigate the association between these allergic diseases and the risk of developing overall psychiatric disorders in patients from Taiwan. Methods: This cohort study used the database of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Program. A total of 186,588 enrolled patients, with 46,647 study subjects who had suffered from allergic diseases, and 139,941 controls matched for sex and age, from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Dataset of 2000-2015, were selected from a sub-dataset of the National Health Insurance Research Database. Fine and Gray's competing risk model analysis was used to explore the hazard ratio (HR), and 95% confidence interval, for the risk of allergic diseases being associated with the risk of developing psychiatric disorders during the 15 years of follow-up. Results: Of the study subjects, 5,038 (10.8%) developed psychiatric disorders when compared to 9,376 (6.7%) in the control group, with significant difference (p < 0.001). Fine and Gray's competing risk model analysis revealed that the adjusted HR was 1.659 (95% Cl = 1.602-1.717, p < 0.001). In this study, we found that the groups of atopic dermatitis alone and the allergic rhinitis + atopic dermatitis were associated with a lower risk of psychiatric disorders, but all the other four groups, such as bronchial asthma alone, allergic rhinitis alone, bronchial asthma + allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma + atopic dermatitis, and the combination of all these three allergic diseases, were associated with a higher risk of psychiatric disorders. Conclusion: Allergic diseases are therefore associated with a 1.66-fold increased hazard of psychiatric disorders in Taiwan.Item type:Item, Interfacial Coupling Effect in Organic/Inorganic Nanocomposites with High Energy Density(2018-04-25) ;Pan, Zhongbin ;Yao, Lingmin ;Zhai, Jiwei ;Yao, XiChen, HaydnOrganic/inorganic nanocomposites (OINs) can be potentially used as high-performance capacitors due to their rapid charge-discharge capability along with respectable power density. The coupling effect of the filler/matrix interface plays a prominent role in the dielectric and electric properties of OINs. Along with a review of contemporary theoretical models, recent advances in interfacial optimization to improve energy density through careful interface control and design are also presented. Possible mechanisms that may improve energy density and potential applications for high-energy-density capacitors are also highlighted.Item type:Item, Pulse electrodeposition of copper-manganese alloy in deep eutectic solvent(2018-04-25) ;Chiang, Wei-Shen ;Huang, Jun-Qian ;Chen, Po-Chun ;Wu, Pu-WeiJoi, AniruddhaCopper-manganese alloy has been established to improve resistance toward electromigration for interconnects. In this work, we employ a deep eutectic solvent (DES) to formulate a nonaqueous electrolyte for pulse current electrodeposition of Cu-Mn alloyed film. Using impedance spectroscopy to record ionic conductivities of DES-based electrolytes, we determine the optimized bath with a Cu/Mn molar ratio of 1:20. We produce an uniform, smooth, and composition-controllable CuMn alloyed film after exploring various pulsing parameters. Signals from X-ray diffractometer (XRD) suggest successful alloying of Cu and Mn with minor presence of MnO2. Profiles from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) validate the metallic nature of Mn from the as-deposited film. Upon Ar annealing, both XRD and XPS exhibit strong signals of MnO2 formation. In addition, images from transmission electron microscope and qualitative elemental chemical mapping indicate Mn atoms in CuMn alloy either diffuse through the underlying Cu seed layer and segregate at the Cu/SiO2 interface, or migrate toward the external surface forming MnO2. Allen ;Lee, Hwa-Yu ;Lin, Syue-Liang ;Meng, Ching-NingWu, Tsung-TaPotentiometric speciation studies, mass spectrometry, and DFT calculations helped to predict the various structural possibilities of the dinuclear trivalent lanthanide ion (Ln(III), Ln=La, Eu, Tb, Yb, Y) complexes of a novel macrocyclic ligand, m-ODO2A-dimer (H4L), to correlate with their luminescence properties and the promoted BNPP and HPNP phosphodiester bond hydrolysis reaction rates. The stability constants of the dinuclear Ln(2)(m-ODO2A- dimer) complexes and various hydrolytic species confirmed by mass spectrometry were determined. DFT calculations revealed that the Y2LH-1 and the Y2LH-2 species tended to form structures with the respective closed- and open-form conformations. Luminescence lifetime data for the heterodimetallic TbEuL system confirmed the fluorescence resonance energy transfer from the TbIII to Eu-III ion. The internuclear distance RTbEu values were estimated to be in the range of 9.4-11.3 a ( pH 6.7-10.6), which were comparable to those of the DFT calculated open-form conformations. Multiple linear regression analysis of the kobs data was performed using the equation: k(obs),(corr.)=k(obs) k(obs),(OH)=k(Ln2)LH(M)-(>1) [Ln(2)LH(-1)]broken vertical bar k(Ln2LH-2) [Ln(2)LH(-2)] for the observed Ln(2)L-promoted BNPP/HPNP hydrolysis reactions in solution pH from 7 to 10.5 (Ln=Eu, Yb). The results showed that the second-order rate constants for the Eu2LH-2 and Yb2LH-2 species were about 50-400 times more reactive than the structural analogous Zn-2(m-12N(3)O-dimer) system.Item type:Item, Development of a computational promoter with highly efficient expression in tumors(2018-04-27) ;Ho, Shu-Yi ;Chang, Bo-Hau ;Chung, Chen-Han ;Lin, Yu-LingChuang, Cheng-HsunBackground: Gene therapy is a potent method to increase the therapeutic efficacy against cancer. However, a gene that is specifically expressed in the tumor area has not been identified. In addition, nonspecific expression of therapeutic genes in normal tissues may cause side effects that can harm the patients' health. Certain promoters have been reported to drive therapeutic gene expression specifically in cancer cells; however, low expression levels of the target gene are a problem for providing good therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, a specific and highly expressive promoter is needed for cancer gene therapy. Methods: Bioinformatics approaches were utilized to analyze transcription factors (TFs) from high-throughput data. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, western blotting and cell transfection were applied for the measurement of mRNA, protein expression and activity. C57BL/6JNarl mice were injected with pD5-hrGFP to evaluate the expression of TFs. Results: We analyzed bioinformatics data and identified three TFs, nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kappa B), cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1 alpha), that are highly active in tumor cells. Here, we constructed a novel mini-promoter, D5, that is composed of the binding sites of the three TFs. The results show that the D5 promoter specifically drives therapeutic gene expression in tumor tissues and that the strength of the D5 promoter is directly proportional to tumor size. Conclusions: Our results show that bioinformatics may be a good tool for the selection of appropriate TFs and for the design of specific mini-promoters to improve cancer gene therapy.Item type:Item, A novel ball milling technique for room temperature processing of TiO2 nanoparticles employed as the electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells and modules(2018-04-28) ;Singh, Mriganka ;Chiang, Chien-Hung ;Boopathi, Karunakara Moorthy ;Hanmandlu, ChintamLi, GangAnatase titanium dioxide (an-TiO2) is often used as the electron transporting material (ETM) in planar-heterojunction perovskite solar cells (PSCs) because of its excellent semiconductor characteristics, outstanding optical transmittance, and suitable band structure. Herein, we report an inexpensive method for mass-scale production of TiO2 ETMs at room temperature (RT similar to 30 degrees C), involving the grinding of large clumps of an-TiO2 to form a suspension of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) in isopropyl alcohol for meso-superstructured PSCs. This process does not involve any chemical synthesis; it is a purely physical process. The lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of ground an-TiO2 NPs, estimated using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), was ca. 4.06 eV, which is a salient feature for the active layer. A regular perovskite solar cell (PSC) based on a CH3NH3PbI3 absorber and ground an-TiO2 ETL exhibited a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.43% with an active area of 0.1 cm(2). The same ground an-TiO2 NPs were used to fabricate a large-area (designated area: 25.2 cm(2)) PSC and a PCE of 14.19% was achieved. PSC devices incorporating the ground an-TiO2 NP ETLs exhibited an attractive long-term device stability, with the PCE retaining approximately 85% of the initial values after 80 days.
