For the (001) epitaxial BiFeO3 films, we find that the domain wall conductivity varies among 71 degrees domain walls, with tail-to-tail (T-T) domain walls more conductive than head-to-head (H-H) and head-to-tail (H-T) ones. Furthermore, it is observed that most of the conductive areas are composed of two parallel lines around the T-T domain walls. These experimental results can be well simulated by our theoretical model based on the polarization configuration and a tunneling mechanism. Our work will help to understand the mechanism of domain wall conductance in ferroelectric materials and further promote the usage of domain walls in advanced nano-devices. The proposed microscope features a nanoscale optical ruler capable of performing fast depth measurements based on the chromatic aberration of microscope objectives. A diffraction grating and a position-sensitive detector were used to extract the spectral shift, which directly maps the height of the surface with a nanoscale resolution. Because neither the mechanical scanning nor the spectrometer, which limit the speed of 3D imaging, are needed in the axial direction, full 3D surface topography images with nanoscale depth resolution can be acquired rapidly using the nanoscale optical ruler in conjunction with 2D lateral beam scanning. The presented technique overcomes the limitation of the detection speed of conventional chromatic confocal microscopy. In experiments, the 3D static and dynamic nanoscale surface profiles of several representative optoelectronic and electronic devices were demonstrated. This fast and non-invasive approach with nanoscale depth resolution to the measurement of topography images has considerable promise in academic research and industrial applications. In order to evaluate the influence of the dynamic display contents to the VLC performance, we use a noise-ratio (NR) and noise-ratio standard deviation (NRSD) as the figure-of-merits for the bright-and-dark contrast of the display content; and the dispersal of the changing display content regarding the brightand-dark contrast respectively. Performances of 4 dynamic display contents with different combinations of NR and NRSD are analyzed. They are: low NR and low NRSD (NR 36.69%; NRSD = 0.0226); low NR and high NRSD (MR = 30.09%; NRSD = 0.2698); high NR and low NRSD (NR = 81.66%; NRSD = 0.0052); high NR and high NRSD (NR = 73.91%; and NRSD = 0.2717). The proposed scheme can work well; that is, even the transmission distance is up to 200 cm in both smart-phones. If the proposed scheme is not used, then high success rate can be observed only at the low NR and low NRSD display content when the transmission distance is < 100 cm. METHODS The study cohort included newly diagnosed nonalcoholic LC patients age >= 40 years old without a diagnosis of CAD from 2006 until 2011 from a longitudinal health insurance database. The mean follow-up period for the study cohort was 1152 +/- 633 d. The control cohort was matched by sex, age, residence, and index date. Hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated using the Cox proportional hazard model and the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS After exclusion, a total of 3409 newly diagnosed nonalcoholic cirrhotic patients were identified from one million samples from the health insurance database. We found that CAD (5.1% vs 17.4%) and hyperlipidemia (20.6% vs 24.1%) were less prevalent in nonalcoholic LC patients than in normal subjects (all P < 0.001), whereas other comorbidities exhibited an increased prevalence. Among the comorbidities, chronic kidney disease exhibited the highest risk for mortality (adjusted HR (AHR) = 1.76; 95%CI: 1.55-2.00, P < 0.001). Ascites or peritonitis exhibited the highest risk of mortality among nonalcoholic cirrhotic patients (AHR = 2.34; 95%CI: 2.06-2.65, P < 0.001). Finally, a total of 170 patients developed CAD after a diagnosis of nonalcoholic LC. The AHR of CAD in nonalcoholic LC patients was 0.56 (95%CI: 0.43-0.74, P < 0.001). The six-year survival rates for nonalcoholic LC patients with and without CAD were 52% and 50%, respectively (P = 0.012). CONCLUSION We conclude that CAD was less prevalent and associated with a reduced risk of mortality in nonalcoholic cirrhotic patients.Item type:Item, Type I superconductivity in Dirac materials(2018-08-22) ;Shapiro, B. Ya ;Shapiro, I. ;Li, Dingping ;Rosenstein, Baruch電子物理學系Superconductivity of the second kind was observed in many 3D Weyl and Dirac semi-metals while in the PdTe2, superconductivity is clearly of the first kind. This is very rare in Dirac semi-metals, but is expected in clean conventional metallic superconductors with 3D parabolic dispersion relation. The conduction bands in this material exhibit the linear (Dirac) dispersion only along two directions, while in the third direction the dispersion is parabolic. Therefore the 'hybrid' Dirac-parabolic material is intermediate between the two extremes. A microscopic pairing theory is derived for arbitrary tilt parameter of the 2D cone and used to determine anisotropic coherence lengths, the penetration depths and applied to recent extensive experiments. Magnetic properties of these superconductors are then studied in the parallel to the layers magnetic field on the basis of microscopically derived Ginzburg-Landau effective theory for the order parameter.Item type:Item, Synergetic improvements of sensitivity and specificity of nanowire field effect transistor gene chip by designing neutralized DNA as probe(2018-08-22) ;Hu, Wen-Pin ;Tsai, Chih-Chin ;Yang, Yuh-Shyong ;Chan, Hardy Wai-HongChen, Wen-YihNeutral DNA analogs as probes for the detection of target oligomers on the biosensors based on the field-effect transistor (FET) configuration feature advantages in the enhancement of sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio. Herein, we used phosphate-methylated nucleotides to synthesize two partially neutralized chimeric DNA products and a fully neutralized DNA sequence and adopted a regular DNA oligomer as probes on the polycrystalline silicon nanowire (NW) FET devices. The sequences of two neutralized chimeric DNAs close to the 5' end were alternately modified with the phosphate-methylated nucleotides, and all probes were immobilized via their 5' end on the NW surface. The non-specific-to-specific binding ratio indicated that the two 5'-end partially neutralized chimeric DNAs featured better performance than the regular and fully neutralized DNA oligomers. The partially neutralized probe design reduces the ionic strength needed for hybridization and increases the Debye length of detection, thus promoting the detection sensitivity of FET and achieving the limit of detection of 0.1 fM. By using an appropriate probe design, applying DNA oligomers with embedded phosphate-methylated nucleotides in the FET biosensors is a promising way for gene detection with high sensitivity and specificity.Item type:Item, ASYMMETRIC BENZOTRICHALCOGENOPHENE COMPOUND, SYNTHESIS METHOD THEREOF AND POLYMER(2018-08-23) ;Yen-Ju CHENG ;Yu-Chieh PAOShi-Yen CHENA synthesis method of benzotrichalcogenophene (BTC) includes using a tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (Pd(PPh3)4) catalyst and a [1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene]chloro[3-phenylallyl]palladium(II) (Pd—IPr) catalyst.
