Item type:Item, Challenges and Future Perspectives on Electroencephalogram-Based Biometrics in Person Recognition(2018-10-09) ;Chan, Hui-Ling ;Kuo, Po-Chih ;Cheng, Chia-Yi ;Chen, Yong-Sheng交大名義發表The emergence of the digital world has greatly increased the number of accounts and passwords that users must remember. It has also increased the need for secure access to personal information in the cloud. Biometrics is one approach to person recognition, which can be used in identification as well as authentication. Among the various modalities that have been developed, electroencephalography (EEG)-based biometrics features unparalleled universality, distinctiveness and collectability, while minimizing the risk of circumvention. However, commercializing EEG-based person recognition poses a number of challenges. This article reviews the various systems proposed over the past few years with a focus on the shortcomings that have prevented wide-scale implementation, including issues pertaining to temporal stability, psychological and physiological changes, protocol design, equipment and performance evaluation. We also examine several directions for the further development of usable EEG-based recognition systems as well as the niche markets to which they could be applied. It is expected that rapid advancements in EEG instrumentation, on-device processing and machine learning techniques will lead to the emergence of commercialized person recognition systems in the near future.Item type:Item, Editorial: Recent Advancements in Structural Equation Modeling (SEM): From Both Methodological and Application Perspectives(2018-10-09) ;Kwok, Oi-Man ;Cheung, Mike W. Whether host genetics determined fibrosis regression in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients with sustained virological response (SVR) is to be determined. One hundred and fifty-six SVR patients with paired liver biopsy before and after antivirals were enrolled. Host genetic factors including single nucleotide polymorphism rs17047200 of tolloid-like 1(TLL-1) were analyzed for their association with fibrosis modification. The proportions of improved, unchanged and worsening fibrotic stags were 39.1% (n = 61), 39.1% (n = 61), and 21.8% (n = 34), respectively. The rate of annual fibrotic improvement was 0.16 +/- 0.79. There was a significant trend of increased fibrotic improvement rate in patients from F01 to F4 (P < 0.001). However, the rate of improvement seemed more limited in cirrhotic patients among those with advanced liver disease. Patients with fibrotic improvement had a significantly higher proportion of TLL-1 rs17047200 AA genotype compared to those without (92.5% vs. 79.3%, p = 0.039). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the TLL-1 rs17047200 AA genotype was the only independent factor associated with fibrosis improvement (odds ratio/95% confidence intervals: 3.2/1.01-10.12, p= 0.047). Compared with TLL-1 rs17047200 non-AA carriers, a significantly higher proportion of fibrosis improvement in AA genotype carriers was observed among patients with F0-2 (33.3% vs. 0%, p = 0.005) but not with F34 (70% vs. 80%, p = 1).We concluded that TLL-1 genetic variants determined fibrotic improvement in CHC with curative antivirals, particularly in patients with mild liver disease.Item type:Item, Greener Luminescent Solar Concentrators with High Loading Contents Based on in Situ Cross-Linked Carbon Nanodots for Enhancing Solar Energy Harvesting and Resisting Concentration Induced Quenching(2018-10-10) ;Talite, Maria Jessabel ;Huang, Hsiu-Ying ;Wu, Yao-Hsuan ;Sena, Princess GenevieveCai, Kun-BinA luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) is composed of loaded luminophores and a waveguide that can be employed to harvest and concentrate both direct and diffused sunlight for promising applications in solar windows. Thus far, most of efficient LSCs still relied on the heavy-metal-containing colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) dispersed into a polymer matrix with a very low loading (typically <1 wt %). Such low-loading constraint is required to mitigate the concentration induced quenching (CIQ) and maintain high optical quality and film uniformity, but this would strongly reduce the light absorbing efficiency. To address all issues, greener LSCs with high loading concentration were prepared by in situ cross-linking organosilane-functionalized carbon nanodots (Si-CNDs), and their photophysical properties relevant to LSC operation were studied. The PL emission is stable and does not suffer from the severe CIQ effect for cross-linked Si-CNDs even with 25 wt % loadings, thus exhibiting high solid-state quantum yields (QYs) up to 45 +/- 5% after the calibration of the reabsorption losses. Furthermore, such LSCs can still hold high optical quality and film uniformity, leading to low scattering losses and high internal quantum efficiency of similar to 22%. However, the reabsorption losses need to be further addressed to realize large-area LSCs based on earth-abundant, cost-effective CNDs.Item type:Item, NONVOLATILE MEMORY AND ITS OPERATION METHOD THEREOF(2018-10-11) ;Steve S. CHUNGE-Ray HSIEHA first memory unit includes a first bipolar-variable-resistance and a first control transistor. This first memory unit is configured to provide a function of a flash memory with first bipolar-variable-resistance transistor serving as a storage. In addition, a second bipolar-variable-resistance transistor and a second control transistor with the same structure as first memory unit can be used to serve as a second memory unit. An isolation transistor is connected between the first memory unit and the second memory unit. The isolation transistor can electrically isolate the first memory unit and the second memory unit from each other, thereby preventing sneak current from flowing between arrays among memory circuits.Item type:Item, FABRICATION METHOD FOR TWO-DIMENSIONAL MATERIALS(2018-10-11) ;Tuo-Hung HOUJyun-Hong HuangA fabrication method for two-dimensional materials of the present invention includes the following steps: forming a thin film having at least one two-dimensional element on a substrate; forming at least one capping layer on the thin film; annealing the thin film to form a two-dimensional material film after the capping layer is formed.Item type:Item, Dlk1-Dio3 locus-derived lncRNAs perpetuate postmitotic motor neuron cell fate and subtype identity(2018-10-12) ;Yen, Ya-Ping ;Hsieh, Wen-Fu ;Tsai, Ya-Yin ;Lu, Ya-LinLiau, Ee ShanThe mammalian imprinted Dlk1-Dio3 locus produces multiple long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) from the maternally inherited allele, including Meg3 (i.e., Gtl2) in the mammalian genome. Although this locus has well-characterized functions in stem cell and tumor contexts, its role during neural development is unknown. By profiling cell types at each stage of embryonic stem cell-derived motor neurons (ESC similar to MNs) that recapitulate spinal cord development, we uncovered that lncRNAs expressed from the Dlk1-Dio3 locus are predominantly and gradually enriched in rostral motor neurons (MNs). Mechanistically, Meg3 and other Dlk1-Dio3 locus-derived lncRNAs facilitate Ezh2/Jarid2 interactions. Loss of these lncRNAs compromises the H3K27me3 landscape, leading to aberrant expression of progenitor and caudal Hox genes in postmitotic MNs. Our data thus illustrate that these lncRNAs in the Dlk1-Dio3 locus, particularly Meg3, play a critical role in maintaining postmitotic MN cell fate by repressing progenitor genes and they shape MN subtype identity by regulating Hox genes. Item type:Item, 少年少女新影響 導演呂毅新(2018-10-14) ;陳子與 ;Department of Communication and Technology傳播與科技學系影響.
