Item type:Item, Polaronic effect in the x-ray absorption spectra of La1-xCaxMnO3 manganites(2019-05-15) ;Huang, S. W. ;Liu, Y. T. ;Lee, J. M. ;Chen, J. M.Lee, J. F.X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is performed to study changes in the electronic structures of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) and charged ordered (CO) La1-xCaxMnO3 manganites with respect to temperature. The pre-edge features in O and Mn K-edge XAS spectra, which are highly sensitive to the local distortion of MnO6 octahedral, exhibit contrasting temperature dependence between CMR and CO samples. 'the seemingly counter-intuitive XAS temperature dependence can be reconciled in the context of polarons. These results help identify the most relevant orbital states associated with polarons and highlight the crucial role played by polarons in understanding the electronic structures of manganites.Item type:Item, Multi-scale mapping for collagen-regulated mineralization in bone remodeling of additive manufacturing porous implants(2019-05-15) ;Tsai, Pei-I. ;Lam, Tu-Ngoc ;Wu, Meng-Huang ;Tseng, Kuan-YingChang, Yuan-WeiLong term success of metallic fusion cages depends on mechanobiological processes through the bone incorporation and rich osseointegration. An optimal configuration of porous titanium-aluminum-vanadium (Ti-6Al-4V) implant fabricated via the additive manufacturing was evaluated in complimentary structure examinations to investigate the growth of autologous osseous at multi-length scales. X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) and transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) using newly-built analysis method indicate the porous Ti-6Al-4V is much better for bone ingrowth compared to commercially non-porous titanium (Ti) and porous tantalum (Ta) implants at the ultramicrostructural level. The evolution of bone formation and remodeling acquired by nano X-ray Laue diffraction mapping exhibits the isotropic orientation and low crystallinity of all newly formed bone whereas mature bone in Ti-6Al-4V discloses the preferential alignment and higher crystallinity volumes of constituent hydroxyapatite (HA) crystallites. The high degree in mineral crystallinity of the fully mature bone suggests additive manufactured Ti-6Al-4V pores enhance the collagen-regulated mineralization.Item type:Item, Identification of a unique VUV photoabsorption band of carbonic acid for its identification in radiation and thermally processed water-carbon dioxide ices(2019-05-15) ;Pavithraa, S. ;Lo, J-, I ;Cheng, B-M ;Sekhar, B. N. RajaMason, N. J.Carbonic acid was synthesized within an ice containingwater and carbon dioxide by irradiation of similar to 9 eV photons. Vacuum UltraViolet (VUV)/UltraViolet (UV) photoabsorption spectra of the irradiated ice revealed absorption features from carbon dioxide, ozone, water, carbon monoxide and oxygen in addition to a band peaking at similar to 200 nm which is identified to be characteristic of carbonic acid. After thermal processing of the irradiated ice leading to desorption of the lower volatile ices, a pure carbonic acid spectrum is identified starting from 170 K until sublimation above 230 K. Therefore the similar to 200 nm band in the VUV region corresponding to carbonic acid is proposed to be a unique identifier in mixed ices, rich in water and carbon dioxide typically encountered on planetary and satellite surfaces. K.The application of the anammox process has great potential in treating nitrogen-rich wastewater. The presence of Fe (II) is expected to affect the growth and activity of anammox bacteria. Short-term (acute) and long-term effects (chronic) of Fe (II) on anammox activity were investigated. In the short-term study, results demonstrated that the optimum concentration of Fe (II) that could be added to anammox is 0.08 mM, at which specific anammox activity (SAA) improved by 60% compared to the control assay, 0.00 mM. The inhibition concentration, IC50, of Fe (II) was found to be 0.192 mM. Kinetics of anammox specific growth rate were estimated based on results of the batch test and evaluated with Han-Levenspiel's substrate inhibition kinetics model. The optimum concentration and IC50 of Fe (II) predicted by the Han-Levenspiel model was similar to the batch test, with values of 0.07 mM and 0.20 mM, respectively. The long-term effect of Fe (II) on the performance of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) was evaluated. Results showed that an appropriate Fe (II) addition enhanced anammox activity, achieving 85% NH4+-N and 96% NO2--N removal efficiency when 0.08 mM of Fe (II) was added. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was adopted to detect and identify the anammox bacteria.Item type:Item, Memory effect in nematic phase of liquid crystal doped with magnetic and non-magnetic nanoparticles(2019-05-15) ;Gdovinova, Veronika ;Tomasovicova, Natalia ;Jeng, Shie-Chan ;Zakutanska, KatarinaKula, PrzemyslawThe dielectric properties of SiO2 nanoparticles and their mixture with Fe3O4 nanoparticles in 5CB liquid crystal were studied by using capacitance-voltage measurements. The prepared colloidal systems exhibited a soft memory effect detected by dielectric hysteresis in nematic phase at ambient temperature. In case of homogeneous SiO2 nanoparticles as dopants, the doped liquid crystal showed the improvement of the effect, sensitive to increasing the nanoparticles concentration. The presence of magnetic nanoparticles caused decreasing the memory effect that was concentration dependent. Additional studies revealed that the temperature erased the observed effect as well as the fact that the different oriented magnetic field changed the magnitude of memory effect. The potential application of these composites leads to a fabrication of non-volatile and low power electro-optical memory devices suitable for information storage applications. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. The proposed algorithm is first trained with 10 years of simulated past experiences in a subtropical environment in Taiwan. The simulations are carried out in a laboratory room having around 2-10 occupants and a classroom with up to 60 occupants. The proposed agent was first selected among different configurations of itself, with the 10th -year of training data set, then it was tested in real environments. Finally, a comparison between the current control methods and this new strategy is performed. It was found that the proposed AI agent can satisfactorily control and balance the needs of thermal comfort, indoor air quality (in terms of CO2 levels) and energy consumption caused by air-conditioning units and ventilation fans. For both environments, the AI agent can successfully manipulate the indoor environment within the accepted PMV values, ranging from about -0.1 to + 0.07 during all the operating time. In regards to the indoor air quality, in terms of the CO2 levels, the results are also satisfactory. By utilizing the agent, the average CO2 levels fall below 800 ppm all the time. The results show that the proposed agent has a superior PMV and 10% lower CO2 levels than the current control system while consuming about 4-5% less energy.Item type:Item, Resolution-enhanced light field displays by recombining subpixels across elemental images(2019-05-15) ;Qin, Zong ;Chou, Ping-Yen ;Wu, Jui-Yi ;Huang, Cheng-TingHuang, Yi-PaiLight field displays based on integral imaging feature ultra-compact volume and freedom of the vergence-accommodation conflict for advanced virtual reality and augmented reality devices; however, they currently suffer from low visual resolution. Considering that subpixels have an intrinsically tripled resolution compared with triad pixels, this Letter develops a subpixel-level algorithm by recombining subpixels with relatively small raytracing errors from different elemental images. As a result, based on a highly accurate image formation model, the resolution of a typical system (pixel size, 7.8 mu m; system thickness, 4.07 mm) is remarkably enhanced from 8.3 to 20.0 pixels per degree, for a gain of 2.41. In addition, the color breakup introduced by the chromatic subpixels is largely suppressed. J. ;Sun, P. J.Dai, G. J.Acentric and nonpolar Pb2MnO4 was predicted to exhibit unique multipiezo induced magnetoelectric (ME) phenomena. In this paper, we present the results of magnetization as well as dielectric properties as a function of temperature (T), magnetic field (H), pressure (P), and electric field (E) primarily to address the ME coupling and identify the underlying mechanism behind this phenomenon. Magnetization and specific-heat measurements reveal the antiferromagnetic ordering of Mn4+ spins at temperature T-N= 17 K. Metamagnetic transitions at three critical magnetic fields H-c1, H-c2 and H-c3) are observed for T < T-N and H > 3.5 T. Further, the influences of pressure and magnetic field on H-c1 and H-c2 are investigated. The T-N, H-c1, and H(c2)( )all decrease with increasing external pressure. The dielectric anomaly observed at T-N is influenced by applying a magnetic field of H > 3.5 T. However, the electric field has minimal influence on the metamagnetic transition. The scaling between dielectric constant and magnetization meaningfully resolves the existence of magnetic-field-induced higher-order ME coupling in Pb2MnO4 at T < T-N and H > 3.5 T.Item type:Item, NO gas sensor based on ZnGa2O4 epilayer grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition(2019-05-16) ;Wu, Min-Ru ;Li, Wei-Zhong ;Tung, Chun-Yi ;Huang, Chiung-YiChiang, Yi-HungA gas sensor based on a ZnGa2O4(ZGO) thin film grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition operated under the different temperature from 25 degrees C to 300 degrees C is investigated in this study. This sensor shows great sensing properties at 300 degrees C. The sensitivity of this sensor is 22.21 as exposed to 6.25 ppm of NO and its response time is 57 s. Besides that, the sensitivities are 1.18, 1.27, 1.06, and 1.00 when exposed to NO2(500 ppb), SO2 (125 ppm), CO (125 ppm), and CO2 (1500 ppm), respectively. These results imply that the ZGO gas sensor not only has high sensitivity, but also has great selectivity for NO gas. Moreover, the obtained results suggest that ZGO sensors are suitable for the internet of things(IOT) applications.Item type:Item, 王心凌出席代言活動 粉絲力挺(2019-05-19) ;卓瑋哲 ;Department of Communication and Technology傳播與科技學系【2019愛凌依舊 甜蜜天后王心凌】專題
