Item type:Item, Pathogenic Variants in CEP85L Cause Sporadic and Familial Posterior Predominant Lissencephaly(2020-04-22) ;Tsai, Meng-Han ;Muir, Alison M. ;Wang, Won-Jing ;Kang, Yi-NingYang, Kun-ChuanLissencephaly (LIS), denoting a "smooth brain," is characterized by the absence of normal cerebral convolutions with abnormalities of cortical thickness. Pathogenic variants in over 20 genes are associated with LIS. The majority of posterior predominant LIS is caused by pathogenic variants in LIS1 (also known as PAFAH1B1), although a significant fraction remains without a known genetic etiology. We now implicate CEP85L as an important cause of posterior predominant LIS, identifying 13 individuals with rare, heterozygous CEP85L variants, including 2 families with autosomal dominant inheritance. We show that CEP85L is a centrosome protein localizing to the pericentriolar material, and knockdown of Cep85l causes a neuronal migration defect in mice. LIS1 also localizes to the centrosome, suggesting that this organelle is key to the mechanism of posterior predominant LIS.Item type:Item, Porous Self-Assembled Molecular Networks as Templates for Chiral-Position-Controlled Chemical Functionalization of Graphitic Surfaces(2020-04-22) ;Tahara, Kazukuni ;Kubo, Yuki ;Hashimoto, Shingo ;Ishikawa, ToruKaneko, HiromasaControlled covalent functionalization of graphitic surfaces with molecular scale precision is crucial for tailored modulation of the chemical and physical properties of carbon materials. We herein present that porous self-assembled molecular networks (SAMNs) act as nanometer scale template for the covalent electrochemical functionalization of graphite using an aryldiazonium salt. Hexagonally aligned achiral grafted species with lateral periodicity of 2.3, 2.7, and 3.0 nm were achieved utilizing SAMNs having different pore-to-pore distances. The unit cell vectors of the grafted pattern match those of the SAMN. After the covalent grafting, the template SAMNs can be removed by simple washing with a common organic solvent. We briefly discuss the mechanism of the observed pattern transfer. The unit cell vectors of the grafted pattern align along nonsymmetry axes of graphite, leading to mirror image grafted domains, in accordance with the domain-specific chirality of the template. In the case in which a homochiral building block is used for SAMN formation, one of the 2D mirror image grafted patterns is canceled. This is the first example of a nearly crystalline one-sided or supratopic covalent chemical functionalization. In addition, the positional control imposed by the SAMN renders the functionalized surface (homo)chiral reaching a novel level of control for the functionalization of carbon surfaces, including surface-supported graphene.Item type:Item, Ultralow Schottky Barriers in Hexagonal Boron Nitride-Encapsulated Monolayer WSe2 Tunnel Field-Effect Transistors(2020-04-22) ;Pande, Gaurav ;Siao, Jyun-Yan ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Lee, Chien-JuSankar, RamanTo explore the potential of field-effect transistors (FETs) based on monolayers (MLs) of the two-dimensional semiconducting channel (SC) for spintronics, the two most important issues are to ensure the formation of variable low-resistive tunnel ferromagnetic contacts (FCs) and to preserve intrinsic properties of the SC during fabrication. Large Schottky barriers lead to the formation of high resistive contacts, and methods adopted to control the barriers often alter the intrinsic properties of the SC. This work aims at addressing both issues in fully encapsulated ML WSe2 FETs using bilayer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) as a tunnel barrier at the FC/SC interface. We investigate the electrical transport in ML WSe2 FETs with the current-in-plane geometry that yields hole mobilities of similar to 38.3 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) at 240 K and on/off ratios of the order of 10(7), limited by the contact regions. We have achieved an ultralow effective Schottky barrier (similar to 5.34 meV) with an encapsulated tunneling device as opposed to a nonencapsulated device in which the barrier heights are considerably higher. These observations provide an insight into the electrical behavior of the FC/h-BN/SC/h-BN heterostructures, and such control over the barrier heights opens up the possibilities for WSe2-based spintronic devices.Item type:Item, The Calderon problem for the fractional Schrodinger equation with drift(2020-04-24) ;Cekic, Mihajlo ;Lin, Yi-Hsuan ;Rueland, Angkana ;應用數學系Department of Applied MathematicsWe investigate the Calderon problem for the fractional Schrodinger equation with drift, proving that the unknown drift and potential in a bounded domain can be determined simultaneously and uniquely by an infinite number of exterior measurements. In particular, in contrast to its local analogue, this nonlocal problem does not enjoy a gauge invariance. The uniqueness result is complemented by an associated logarithmic stability estimate under suitable apriori assumptions. Also uniqueness under finitely many generic measurements is discussed. Here the genericity is obtained through singularity theory which might also be interesting in the context of hybrid inverse problems. Combined with the results from Ghosh et al. (Uniqueness and reconstruction for the fractional Calderon problem with a single easurement, 2018. ), this yields a finite measurements constructive reconstruction algorithm for the fractional Calderon problem with drift. The inverse problem is formulated as a partial data type nonlocal problem and it is considered in any dimension n >= 1.Item type:Item, Correlation between Near-Field Enhancement and Dephasing Time in Plasmonic Dimers(2020-04-24) ;Li, Yaolong ;Sun, Quan ;Zu, Shuai ;Shi, XuLiu, YunquanNear-field enhancement and dephasing time play critical roles in several applications of localized surface plasmon resonance. Here, using an example gold dimer system, we reveal the correlation between the near-field enhancement and dephasing time via time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy. Compared with isolated particles, dimers with small gap sizes show stronger near-field enhancement and shorter dephasing times. These results are well reproduced by numerical simulations and further explained by a coupled dipole approximation model. The roles of near- and far-field coupling and plasmon localization in balancing near-field enhancement and dephasing time are also unveiled.Item type:Item, Enhanced photovoltaic performance of Y2O3:Ho3+/Yb3+ upconversion nanophosphor based DSSC and investigation of color tunability in Ho3+/Tm3+/Yb3+ tridoped Y2O3(2020-04-25) ;Tadge, Prachi ;Yadav, Ram Sagar ;Vishwakarma, Pradeep Kumar ;Rai, S. B.Chen, Teng-MingThe present study reports the upconversion (UC) based color tuning in Y2O3:Ho3+/Yb3+, Y2O3:Tm3+/Yb3+ and Y2O3:Tm3+/Ho3+/Yb3+ phosphors synthesized through complex based precursor solution method. The Y2O3:Ho3+/Yb3+ phosphor emits intense green and weak red colors whereas the Y2O3:Tm3+/Yb3+ emits NIR and blue colors on excitation with 976 nm. The impact of the enhancement in the concentration of Yb3+ on the color point of codoped as well as tridoped phosphors has been studied in detail. When Y2O3:Tm3+/Ho3+/Yb3+ phosphor is excited by 976 nm laser, the phosphor emits dominant green color. This is due to energy transfer from Tm3+ to Ho3+ ions. The increase in the concentration of Yb3+ ion leads to a color tunability not only in the co-doped but also in the tridoped phosphors. Furthermore, we have incorporated Y2O3:Ho3+,Yb3+ UC phosphor into TiO2 electrode to form an UC based DSSC for converting near IR (NIR) light into visible where DSSCs typically have high sensitivity. The short-circuit current density (Jsc) as well as the open-circuit voltage (Voc) of the UC-TiO2 based cell was found to be 8.46% and 5.18% higher which in turn, resulted into a 10.33% enhancement in power conversion efficiency as compared to that of bare TiO2 based DSSC. Thus, the UC based Y2O3:Ho3+/Yb3+ may be useful in color tunability and DSSC applications. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. In this work, we proposed a novel strategy that combined with in situ electrophoresis and electrogelation of SF as well as the electropolymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) for producing high-level nitrogen-doped (N-doped) carbons. A high beta-sheet content of SF can be synthesized in a three-dimensional (3D) inverse opaline skeleton via double-network microstructure (physical beta-sheet cross-linking and chemical PEDOT cross-linking) induced by the hydrophobic EDOTs. This synergistic effect regulating SF distribution and balancing the intra/intermoleeular hydrogen bonding among SF results in boosting beta-sheet contents. Herein, this 3D SF/PEDOT composite inverse opal (SPIO) exhibits a much ultrahigh-coneentrated beta-sheets (46.4%) compared to pure electrogelated SFIO with 16.4% of beta-sheets. After subsequent pyrolysis, a high-level (14.7%) N-doped pseudographitic carbon inverse opal is realized. For evaluation as a pseudocapacitor, this high-level N-doped pseudographitic carbon inverse opal shows a capacitance of 342 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1) and a commendable energy density of 31.7 Wh kg(-1) at an ultrahigh power density of 25009 W kg(-1) (at 50 A g(-1)). After galvanostatic charging/discharging at 15 A g(-1) for 10000 cycles, the sample maintains an impressive capacitance retention of 89.8%.Item type:Item, Annealed Polycrystalline TiO2 Interlayer of the n-Si/TiO2/Ni Photoanode for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting(2020-04-27) ;Chuang, Chi-Huang ;Lai, Yung-Yu ;Hou, Cheng-Hung ;Cheng, Yuh-Jen材料科學與工程學系High photovoltage generation from a photoelectrode is important for efficient solar-driven water splitting. Here, we report a thermal treatment process that greatly enhances photovoltage generation from an n-Si/TiO2/Ni photoanode. By selectively annealing the TiO2 interlayer, the photoanode generates a high photovoltage of 570 mV, which is very competitive as compared with photovoltages produced using other similar metal-insulator-semiconductor structures with earth-abundant metal catalysts. Different annealing conditions and junction layer thicknesses were systematically investigated. It is found that the optimal annealing temperature occurs between 500 and 600 degrees C. Within this temperature range, the deposited amorphous Ti is converted into polycrystalline anatase phase TiO2. The optimal annealing time scales linearly with TiO2 thickness and inversely with annealing temperature. The large photovoltage generation is attributed to the reduced defect states and improved junction barrier height by the annealed TiO2 interlayer. This study demonstrates that thermal annealing offers an attractive approach to modify the TiO2 interlayer material's properties for photovoltage optimization.Item type:Item, Flexible BSA MIM capacitor with negative voltage coefficient for RF applications(2020-04-27) ;Kumar, Parkarsh ;Guhathakurata, Shrabani ;Choudhury, A. ;Sharma, A.Tripathy, Anupam R.In this report, Bovine Serum Albumin-based Metal-Insulator-Metal structures on Indium doped Tin Oxide coated flexible Polyethylene Terephthalate substrates with Aluminum (Al) as the top electrode have been fabricated and studied in detail. The thickness of the film was measured using a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. The Fourier Transform Infrared Attenuated Total Reflectance spectrum confirms the presence of both amide-I and amide-II in the protein film. Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy was performed for the absorption spectrum used to extract the optical bandgap. The surface roughness of the film was estimated by Atomic Force Microscopy. Electrical characterization of the devices gives a high capacitance density with a negative quadratic coefficient and a low dissipation factor, showing their potential for Radio Frequency/analog application. The number of dipoles (N-PD) is found to be 1.01x10(18)cm(-3) with a permanent dipole moment (mu (0)) of 2.92x10(-25) C m at an applied frequency of 1MHz. The devices show high reliability resistant to degradation, studied by Constant Voltage Stressing. We also examined the performance of these flexible devices by repeated bending with different bending radii.
