Chondrosarcomas are well known for their resistance to chemotherapeutic agents, including cisplatin, which is commonly used in chondrosarcomas. Amphiregulin (AR), a ligand of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), plays an important role in drug resistance. We therefore sought to determine the role of AR in cisplatin chemoresistance. We found that AR inhibits cisplatin-induced cell apoptosis and promotes ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 1 (ABCB1) expression, while knockdown of ABCB1 by small interfering RNA (siRNA) reverses these effects. High phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), Akt and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kappa B) phosphorylation levels were observed in cisplatin-resistant cells. Pretreating chondrosarcoma cells with PI3K, Akt and NF-kappa B inhibitors or transfecting the cells with p85, Akt and p65 siRNAs potentiated cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity. In a mouse xenograft model, knockdown of AR expression in chondrosarcoma cells increased the cytotoxic effects of cisplatin and also decreased tumor volume and weight. These results indicate that AR upregulates ABCB1 expression through the PI3K/Akt/NF-kappa B signaling pathway and thus contributes to cisplatin resistance in chondrosarcoma.

The fundamental model of energy transformation between the inductor and the power transistor for the unclamped inductive switching (UIS) test is inspected. Based on the experimental results, the energy stored in the inductor at the period of the channel turn-on can be dissipated by the power transistor after the channel is turned off. In this work, a new theoretical model to well describe the electrical and thermal behaviors of the power transistor during the unclamped inductive switching (UIS) test has been identified and analyzed with the experimental silicon results under different inductor values in 0.15 mu m BCD process. The total UIS energy reduced due to series resistance of the inductor and the power transistor has been theoretically explained and well matches with the experimental measured results on silicon.

Current group decision-making fuzzy analytic hierarchy processes (FAHPs) have two major problems. First, inconsistent fuzzy pairwise comparison results, rather than compromised fuzzy weights, are aggregated. Second, a consensus among decision makers (DMs) cannot be guaranteed. To address these problems, in this study, the guaranteed-consensus posterior-aggregation FAHP (GCPA-FAHP) method was proposed. In the proposed methodology, the membership functions of the linguistic terms for performing fuzzy pairwise comparisons were designed to guarantee a consensus among the DMs and can be modified afterward to enhance the estimation precision. In addition, fuzzy intersection and center of gravity were used to aggregate and defuzzify the estimated fuzzy weights. The GCPA-FAHP method was applied to a real case to evaluate its effectiveness. The experimental results revealed that the GCPA-FAHP method guaranteed consensus among the DMs and improved the precision of estimating fuzzy weights.
Do family firms engage in voluntary external assurance of corporate social responsibility reports?

越來越多公司自願性聘請獨立第三方機構進行企業社會責任報告書確信，以提高企業社會責任報告書的可信度。在發展中的國家，家族企業型態在國家經濟與社會發展演進過程扮演重要的角色。本研究以2009至2016年台灣家族企業為研究對象，手工蒐集家族企業社會責任報告書確信資料，分析家族企業與自願性企業社會責任報告書確信關連性。實證結果指出，相較於非家族企業，家族企業較沒有動機從事自願性企業社會責任報告書確信，此結論與傳統社會政治學或經濟學理論的預期相反。此外，當家族企業控制權與現金流量權偏離程度越高時，這類型家族企業比較不會從事自願性企業社會責任報告書確信行為；相反地，當家族企業設有獨立非執行董事時，這類型家族企業較會從事自願性企業社會責任報告書確信行為。最後，本文將討論家族企業對於從事自願性企業社會責任報告書確信決策之管理與實務意涵。

We develop a model of two parallel contests, asymmetric in quantity of homogeneous prizes open to contest, with a finite number of homogeneous risk-neutral bidders. Whether the bidder upon entry into a particular contest is aware of the realized number of competing contestants in the contest is irrelevant to the expected effort at equilibrium. At equilibrium the expected effort per capita in the larger contest (the contest with more prizes) is greater than that in the smaller one. The larger contest nonetheless does not attract enough contestants to achieve optimum in rent extraction from the bidders.
