Item type:Item, Preliminary clinical and radiographic outcomes of proximal humeral fractures: comparison of ALPS and PHILOS plating in Asian patients in Taiwan(2020-08-28) ;Chen, Chun-Yen ;Chang, Hao-Wei ;Hsieh, Shang-Lin ;Chang, Chien-ChunTsai, Chun-HaoBackground Up to 20% of proximal humeral fractures need to be treated operatively. However, numerus complications were reported by using fixed angled locking plates. The ALPS Proximal Humerus Plating System is a new design implant with novel design features. The aim of this study was to compare the preliminary clinical outcomes and complications of proximal humeral fractures treated with either ALPS or the proximal humeral internal locking system (PHILOS) in Asian patients in Taiwan. Methods Between January 2016 and December 2018, 66 patients with displaced proximal humeral fractures were analyzed retrospectively, of whom 31 underwent ALPS implant treatment and 35 underwent PHILOS implant treatment. Intraoperative blood loss and operation time, postoperative Constant-Murley Shoulder Outcome (Constant-Murley) score, and complications variables were recorded for the comparison. All cases were regularly followed up for at least 1 year. Results The mean follow-up period was 400.8 days (range, 367-446 days). Union was achieved in 98.5% of patients (65/66). The ALPS group yielded similar radiologic and clinical outcomes to the PHILOS plating group for treating displaced proximal humeral fractures, including operation time, intraoperative blood loss, the Constant-Murley score, and varus malunion (P> 0.05, respectively). However, the incidence of total postoperative complications in the ALPS group was significantly lower than in the PHILOS group (P< 0.05). There was a trend of a lower complication rate of screws/pegs protrusion, avascular necrosis, subacromial impingement, postoperative infection, and reoperation in the ALPS group, although it was not statistically significant (P> 0.05, respectively). Conclusion The ALPS group yielded similar radiologic and clinical outcomes to the PHILOS plating group for displaced proximal humeral fractures, but the ALPS group had a significantly lower total rate of complications. Therefore, ALPS may be a better option for treating proximal humeral fractures. Further larger clinical studies are needed to confirm the findings presented here. Item type:Item, A Fast Route Towards Freestanding Single-Crystalline Oxide Thin Films by Using YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-x)as a Sacrificial Layer(2020-08-28) ;Chang, Yao-Wen ;Wu, Ping-Chun ;Yi, Jhih-Bang ;Liu, Yu-ChenChou, YiResearchers have long been seeking multifunctional materials that can be adopted for next-generation nanoelectronics, and which, hopefully, are compatible with current semiconductor processing for further integration. Along this vein, complex oxides have gained numerous attention due to their versatile functionalities. Despite the fact that unbounded potential of complex oxides has been examined over the past years, one of the major challenges lies in the direct integration of these functional oxides onto existing devices or targeted substrates that are inherently incompatible in terms of oxide growth. To fulfill this goal, freestanding processes have been proposed, in which wet etching of inserted sacrificial layers is regarded as one of the most efficient ways to obtain epitaxial high-quality thin films. In this study, we propose using an alternative oxide, YBa2Cu3O7(YCBO), as a sacrificial layer, which can be easily dissolved in light hydrochloric acid in a more efficient way, while protecting selected complex oxides intact. The high epitaxial quality of the selected complex oxide before and after freestanding process using YBCO as a sacrificial layer is comprehensively studied via a combination of atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and electrical transports. This approach enables direct integration of complex oxides with arbitrary substrates and devices and is expected to offer a faster route towards the development of low-dimensional quantum materials.Item type:Item, Infrared spectroscopy of H+(CO)(2) in the gas phase and in para-hydrogen matrices(2020-08-28) ;Leicht, Daniel ;Rittgers, Brandon M. ;Douberly, Gary E. ;Wagner, J. PhilippMcDonald, David C., IIThe H+(CO)(2) and D+(CO)(2) molecular ions were investigated by infrared spectroscopy in the gas phase and in para-hydrogen matrices. In the gas phase, ions were generated in a supersonic molecular beam by a pulsed electrical discharge. After extraction into a time-of-flight mass spectrometer, the ions were mass selected and probed by infrared laser photodissociation spectroscopy in the 700 cm(-1)-3500 cm(-1) region. Spectra were measured using either argon or neon tagging, as well as tagging with an excess CO molecule. In solid para-hydrogen, ions were generated by electron bombardment of a mixture of CO and hydrogen, and absorption spectra were recorded in the 400 cm(-1)-4000 cm(-1) region with a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer. A comparison of the measured spectra with the predictions of anharmonic theory at the CCSD(T)/ANO1 level suggests that the predominant isomers formed by either argon tagging or para-hydrogen isolation are higher lying (+7.8 kcal mol(-1)), less symmetric isomers, and not the global minimum proton-bound dimer. Changing the formation environment or tagging strategy produces other non-centrosymmetric structures, but there is no spectroscopic evidence for the centrosymmetric proton-bound dimer. The formation of higher energy isomers may be caused by a kinetic effect, such as the binding of X (=Ar, Ne, or H-2) to H+(CO) prior to the formation of X H+(CO)(2). Regardless, there is a strong tendency to produce non-centrosymmetric structures in which HCO+ remains an intact core ion. 典禮中將安排相關課程,希望新生認識校園及環境...Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Universal nonequilibrium I-V curve near the two-channel Kondo-Luttinger quantum critical point(2020-08-28) ;Lin, C-Y ;Chang, Y-Y ;Rylands, C. ;Andrei, N.Chung, C-HOver recent decades, a growing number of systems, many of them quantum critical, have been shown to exhibit non-Fermi-liquid behavior, but a full analytic understanding of such systems out of equilibrium is still lacking. In this paper, we provide a distinct example with broad applications in correlated mesoscopic systems to address this issue-a two-channel Kondo-Luttinger model where a Kondo impurity couples to two voltage-biased interacting electron leads, experimentally realizable in a dissipative quantum dot. Therein, an exotic quantum phase transition has been known to exist since the 1990s from the one-channel to two-channel Kondo ground states by enhancing electron interactions in the leads, but a controlled analytic approach to this quantum critical point has not yet been established due to the breakdown of weak-coupling perturbation theory near this strong-coupling critical point. We present a controlled method to this long-standing problem by mapping the system in the strong-coupling regime to an effective spin-boson-fermion Hamiltonian. Another type of non-Fermi-liquid quantum critical point is discovered with a distinct logarithmic-in-temperature and -voltage dependence in transport. We further obtain an analytical form for the universal differential conductance out of equilibrium near the transition. Our approach can be further generalized to study nonequilibrium physics of other strong-coupling low-dimensional non-Fermi-liquid fixed points. The relevance of our results for recent experiments is discussed.Item type:Item, Piezoresponse force microscopy imaging and its correlation with cantilever spring constant and frequency(2020-08-28) ;Solis Canto, O. ;Murillo-Bracamontes, E. A. ;Gervacio-Arciniega, J. J. ;Toledo-Solano, M.Torres-Miranda, G.Single-frequency piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) images of a BiFeO3/DyScO3(110) thin film, obtained with long (k(c)=0.82N/m) and short (k(c)=7.64N/m) cantilevers, were analyzed as a function of the applied voltage frequency. For long cantilevers, the electrostatic and electrostrictive contributions were identified. These contributions were reduced with a frequency near the second mode of the contact resonance; while for short cantilevers, the first mode was necessary. A method for domain structure analyses, to discriminate a ferroelectric behavior from a non-ferroelectric, through the optimization of PFM images, is also described. The analysis can be extended to cantilevers with different spring constants and ferroelectric materials. Item type:Item, Visible light positioning (VLP) system using low-cost organic photovoltaic cell (OPVC) for low illumination environments(2020-08-31) ;Hong, Chong-You ;Wu, Yu-Chun ;Lin, Yu-Hsiang ;Liu, YangChow, Chi-WaiWe propose and demonstrate a received-signal-strength (RSS) based visible light positioning (VLP) system using a low-cost organic photovoltaic cell (OPVC) receiver (Rx). The OPVC is a passive device without the need of external power supply. It could detect VLC signal and harvest energy. Our developed OPVC has a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.8%. The VLP system can be operated at a low illumination of 130 lux. The regression machine learning (MIL) algorithm is used to enhance the positioning accuracy.
