In the fabrication of the modern silicon semiconductor device, such as the passivated planar transistor or the monolithic intergrated circuit, the p-n junction is formed by impurity diffusion through a finite diffusion mask opening. The diffusion mask is a layer of silicon dioxide thermally grown by steam oxidation technique. The diffusion opening may be a rectangular stripe or circular dot precisely revealed by photolithographic technique. The impurity atom distribution can not be approximated by an elementary one-dimensional diffusion process. Instead, this distribution must be determined from a detailed solution of a boundary value problem for the structure under consideration. The purpose of this paper is to present a full three-dimensional soution of diffusion problem by integral transform method. The solution is based upon an instantaneous source diffusion process. Two different diffusion openings are considered in the analysis. The rectangular coordinates and the multiple Fourier transform are used for the rectangular geometry. The cylindrical coordinates and the multiple Fourier-Bessel transform are used for the circular geometry.

    Occurrence of Es over Taipei

Using the foEs data in the period March 1960-August 1964, the diurnal, seasonal, and solar cycle variations of the percent occurrence of foEs greater than 5 Mc/s over Taipei were studied. The results were about the same as those of the other Asian stations ever reported. The correlations between P and R as well as between P and Ap were also studied. The results show slight negative correlations. No significant correlation was found between the daily geomagnetic activity and daily occurrence of Es. Comparing the present results with those obtained for another epoch of the solar cycle, it seems to conclude that the correlation of P on R and that of daily geomagnetic activity on daily occurrence of Es are different epoch of the solar cycle.

To facilitate laser research at Chiao Tung, a laser plasma tube fabrication process using simple equipment has been developed. Consequently, tubes containing mixtures of He and Ne gases were made of different diameters and lengths, and their operation properties investigated. In this paper, the fabrication process is described and some characteristics of He-Ne gas lasers pertaining to the relations between output power and reflectig mirrors, exciting current, etc.,are presented.

The purpose of this study is twofolds : to present systematically the development of such dynamics of motion as related to the external ballistics of long-range missiles, and to construct a gunnery table for the firing angle, angular range, altitude and flight time for firing velocities approaching the satellite region. The importance of this study is to treat the falling body problem as the motion which relates the transition from bound state to free state , and therefrom to calculate the firing angle and range as well as the time of flight in terms of the firing velocity. The scope of this study is limitted to the discussion under the following assumption, that the burn-out time for energizing the projectile is small compared to flight time, thatt the dissipative effect is ignored , that the spheroidalsphape of the earth and its nonuniform density is neglected, and that the coriolis force is not considered.

The algorithm of a systematic minimization method givrn in this paper uses tree idea for generating all compatibility classes and uses Meisel's tree display to produce all possible minimal solutions of a given incompletely specified sequential machine. An example is given for illustration.

A control system, contacting a transport lag is usually difficult for analysis, due to the existence of a transcedental function in the system characteristic equation. Yaohan Chu had presented a phase- angle- loci method, but it becomes increasingly difficult for higher order systems.(1)Eisenberg had given a fairly nice method, but it has been applied only to systems containing one transport lag.(2) In this paper , the root locos method is applied to the analysis of linear control systems with transport lags. The basic approach is to use the special property of zero-order holding circuit to represent a linear control system with transport lag by an equivalent sampled-data control system, then the system stability is analyzed in Z-domain using root-locus method.

On the Surface Wave Diffraction by a Step
    (1969-04)

A modified procedure of the Wiener-Hopf technique is developed, and used to determine the transmitted and reflected fields of a surface wave which is normally incident upon the junction of two semi-infinite planes joined together by a step of height a.Both planes have normalized reactance X , and the step surface has X0 .Reduction of the transmission loss at the step by increasing X0 is shown to be possible. The relation between edge condition and uniqueness of solution along with field behaviors at the corners of the step are fully investigated. A comparison between the present procedure and the residue cancellation is made.
