As the technology develop, mental illness prevalence are also increased. Depression disorder has turned out to be civilization disease which consumes high personal and social costs. In the past, treatments commonly used were medication and psychotherapy. However, those generated side effects and needed high cost. Currently, some research reported that exercise can become a reliable and cheaper treatment method. This research mainly observed the correlation between exercise and serotonin and discussed their impact on depressive symptom using empirical literature. The method used was through the literature study by collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and integrating obtained data. Pattern exploration in history and correlated theories were used to observe the effect of exercise on preventing or reducing depressive symptoms. It is expected that the result can be used as reference on sport science treatment. Results revealed that human serotonin concentration correlated closely to depressive disorder and moderate exercise can help to activate the serotonin system to stabilize levels of serotonin, which in turn can reduce depressive symptom and improve mood condition.
