A Buffer Time based Call Admission Control Algorithm for Real-time Traffic in IEEE 802.11e WLAN

Abstract

The IEEE 802.11e introduces the Hybrid Coordination Function (HCF) to provide required mechanism fir supporting real-time services. In this paper, based on the calculated transition probability of a typical adaptive auto rate fallback (AARF) algorithm, a buffer-time (BT) based call admission control is proposed. Results show that the BT CAC not only utilizes the wireless resources more efficiently, but also satisfies the crucial QoS demanding for different real-time applications like video streaming and VoIP.
