Item type:Item, A 10-Gb/s OEIC with Meshed Spatially-Modulated Photo Detector in 0.18-mu m CMOS Technology(2011-05-01) ;Huang, Shih-Hao ;Chen, Wei-Zen ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Huang, Yang-Tung電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper describes the design of a 10-Gb/s fully integrated CMOS optical receiver, which consists of a novel spatially-modulated photo detector (SMPD), a low-noise trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), and a post-limiting amplifier on a single chip. The bandwidth of proposed meshed SMPD can be boosted up to 6.9 GHz under a reverse-biased voltage of 14.2 V. The measured responsivity of the meshed SMPD is 29 mA/W as illuminated by 850-nm light source. To compensate the relatively low responsivity of on-chip CMOS photo detector (PD), a high-gain TIA with nested feedback and shunt peaking is proposed to achieve low-noise operation. The optical receiver is capable of delivering 25-k Omega conversion gain when driving 50-Omega output loads. For a PRBS test pattern of 2(7)-1, the 10-Gb/s optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) has optical sensitivity of -6 dBm at a bit-error rate (BER) of 10(-11). Implemented in a generic 0.18-mu m CMOS technology, the chip area is 0.95 mm by 0.8 mm. The trans-impedance amplifier, post amplifier, and output buffer respectively drain 38 mW, 80 mW, and 27 mW from the 1.8-V supply.Item type:Item, A 100 MHZ 1920x1080 HD-PHOTO 20 FRAMES/SEC JPEG XR ENCODER DESIGN(2008) ;Chien, Ching-Yen ;Huang, Sheng-Chieh ;Lin, Shih-Hsiang ;Huang, Yu-ChiehChen, Yi-ChengA JPEG XR chip for HD-Photo is implemented with 25 MM area in TSMC 0.18um CMOS 1P6M technology at 100MHz According to the simulation results, the 4:4:4 1920x1080 HD-Photo 20 frames/sec can be encoded smoothly.Item type:Item, A CMOS-Based Phototransistor for High-Sensitivity Biochemical Detection Using Absorption Photometry(2008) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Tai, Yu-Ting ;Huang, Yang-Tung ;Yang, Yuh-Shyong電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper proposes a high-sensitivity biosensing system on the basis of absorption photometry and a phototransistor. Manufactured in a standard 0.35-mu m CMOS technology, the phototransistor exhibits a responsivity higher than 1000 A/W for 650-nm light. The TMB/H(2)O(2)/HRP method is chosen as a useful platform to determine the amount of various interesting targets. For the biochemical detection, a sample volume of only 10 mu l is required to be dropped on the slide above the phototransistor. HRP activity is used for labelled target quantification by photometric detector. The modulation of light intensity due to enzyme reaction can easily be detected in 96-well microarray plate by providing 650nm light source (LED). There is good correlation between absorbance in 650nm and the concentration of HRP-streptavidin with detection limit in 1.33 pM. This device is reusable and suits for various targets by microarray plate modification rather than biochip. With the advantage of portable, low cost, and reusable, this new designed immunosensor could be widely used for both research and diagnostic purposes.Item type:Item, A Miniature CMOS Optoelectronic Biosensor for Screening Skin-Whitening Agents(2009) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Lu, Yen-Pei ;Lin, Ming-Yu ;Huang, Yang-TungYang, Yuh-ShyongA miniature CMOS optoelectronic biosensor is proposed for screening whitening agents. Based on the principle of absorption photometry, this biosensor is mainly composed of a green LED, a CMOS phototransistor, and a slide for performing the biochemical reactions. The requirement of the sample volume is only 10 mu l, much less than those in commercial instruments. Melanin assay and MTT assay were performed to evaluate the whitening mechanisms. Experimental results demonstrated that the density of 5x10(4) cells/ml can be successfully detected for both assays. This portable biosensor has great potential toward personalized diagnostic kits for further applications.Item type:Item, A Phototransistor-Based High-Sensitivity Biosensing System Using 650-nm Light(2009-05-01) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Tai, Yu-Ting ;Huang, Yang-Tung ;Yang, Yuh-Shyong生物科技學系A miniature optical biosensing system based on a PMOS phototransistor and absorption photometry is proposed. Although many novel quasi one-dimensional materials such as Pb(1-x)Mn(x)Se nanoarrays were recently produced, their intrinsic electron transport properties have not been extensively studied so far. In this work, we demonstrate that an ordinary source-drain configuration of field-effect transistors or the two-probe measurement can be applied to the exploration of the intrinsic properties of nanowires. This two-probe measurement approach also works on highly resistive nanowires without an Ohmic contact issue. By using this method, electron transport behavior, resistivity, and carrier concentrations of ZnO, InP, GaP, and Pb(1-x)Mn(x)Se semiconductor nanowires have been investigated. Due to the tiny cross-section and few conducting channels, a nanomaterial usually reveals an ultra high resistance. This technique demonstrates a two-probe characterization of nanostructures, paving the simplest way toward electrical characterizations of all high-resistance nanomaterials such as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), molecules and organics.Item type:Item, Fabrication and Reliability Investigation of Copper Pillar and Tapered Through Silicon Via (TSV) for Direct Bonding in 3D Integration(2015) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Chen, Kuan-Neng ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsCompare to the conventional structure, in this research, the structure of Cu pillar and tapered TSV for direct bonding has an excellent potential for low bonding temperature within a short bonding time. We evaluated whether social media reflects social uneasiness and fear during epidemic outbreaks and natural catastrophes. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Freely available epidemic data in Taiwan. Main outcome measure We used weekly epidemic incidence data obtained from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and online search query data obtained from Google Trends between 4 October 2015 and 2 April 2016. To validate whether non-English query keywords were useful surveillance tools, we estimated the correlation between online query data and epidemic incidence in Taiwan. Results With our approach, we noted that keywords (sic)& x5192; ('common cold'), & x767c;& x71d2; ('fever') and & x54b3;& x55fd; ('cough') exhibited good to excellent correlation between Google Trends query data and influenza incidence (r=0.898, p<0.001; r=0.773, p<0.001; r=0.796, p<0.001, respectively). They also displayed high correlation with influenza-like illness emergencies (r=0.900, p<0.001; r=0.802, p<0.001; r=0.886, p<0.001, respectively) and outpatient visits (r=0.889, p<0.001; r=0.791, p<0.001; r=0.870, p<0.001, respectively). We noted that the query & x8178;(sic)& x6bd2; ('enterovirus') exhibited excellent correlation with the number of enterovirus-infected patients in emergency departments (r=0.914, p<0.001). Conclusions These results suggested that Google Trends can be a good surveillance tool for epidemic outbreaks, even in Taiwan, the non-English-speaking country. Online search activity indicates that people are concerned about epidemic diseases, even if they do not visit hospitals. This prompted us to develop useful tools to monitor social media during an epidemic because such media usage reflects infectious disease trends more quickly than does traditional reporting.Item type:Item, iTimerC: Common Path Pessimism Removal Using Effective Reduction Methods(2014) ;Yang, Yu-Ming ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Jiang, Iris Hui-Ru ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsStatic timing analysis is a key process to guarantee timing closure for modern IC designs. Nevertheless, fast growing design complexities and increasing on-chip variations complicate this process. To capture more accurate timing performance of a design, common path pessimism removal is prevalent to eliminate artificially induced pessimism in clock paths during timing analysis. To avoid exhaustive exploration on all paths in a design, in this paper, we present a novel timing analysis framework removing common path pessimism based on block-based static timing analysis, timing graph reduction, and dynamic bounding. Experimental results show that the proposed method is highly scalable, especially with short runtimes for large-scale designs. Moreover, our approach outperforms TAU 2014 timing contest winners, generating accurate results and achieving more than 2.13X speedups.Item type:Item, Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Nitric Oxide, Prostaglandin E2, and Cytokine Production of Mouse and Human Macrophages Are Suppressed by Pheophytin-b(2017-12-01) ;Lin, Chun-Yu ;Wang, Wen-Hung ;Chen, Shin-Huei ;Chang, Yu-WeiHung, Ling-ChienSepsis is an overwhelming systemic response to infection that frequently results in tissue damage, organ failure, and even death. Nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and cytokine overproduction are thought to be associated with the immunostimulatory cascade in sepsis. In the present study, we analyzed the anti-inflammatory efficacy of the pheophytin-b on both RAW264.7 murine macrophage and purified human CD14(+) monocytes stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and elucidated the mechanisms by analyzing the cell signaling pathways known to be activated in sepsis. Pheophytin-b suppressed the overexpression of NO, PGE2, and cytokines in LPS-stimulated macrophages without inducing cytotoxicity. It also reduced NOS2 and COX-2 mRNA and protein levels. The inhibitory effects on NO, PGE2, and cytokine overproduction arose from the suppression of STAT-1 and PI3K/Akt pathways; no changes in NF-kappa B, MAPK, and AP-1 signaling were detected. Thus, pheophytin-b may represent a potential candidate to beneficially modulate the inflammatory response in sepsis.Item type:Item, Low-Temperature Cu-Cu Direct Bonding Using Pillar-Concave Structure in Advanced 3-D Heterogeneous Integration(2017-09-01) ;Yang, Yu-Tao ;Chou, Tzu-Chieh ;Yu, Ting-Yang ;Chang, Yu-WeiHuang, Tai-YuanLow-temperature Cu-Cu bonding utilizing pillar and concave on silicon substrate with and without polymer layer is successfully implemented at 200 degrees C under atmospheric pressure. Finite-element method (FEM) simulations on stress and deformation generated during bonding process are also presented in order to discuss their influence on bonding result of several pillar diameters and of concave sidewall angles originating from the manufacturing process. The alteration of parameters in FEM simulations would also be investigated to enhance the bonding outcome. The parameters include the diameter of pillar, the sidewall angle of concave, the shape of the concave opening, the addition of extra polymer layer under Cu concave layer, the bonding temperature, and the pitch of the pillar-concave structure. The implementation of Cu-Cu bonding using pillar-concave structure could have a prospective effect on existing packaging methods in semiconductor industry with benefits of applicability to various sorts of substrates and low bonding temperature.Item type:Item, Pheophytin a Inhibits Inflammation via Suppression of LPS-Induced Nitric Oxide Synthase-2, Prostaglandin E2, and Interleukin-1 beta of Macrophages(2014-12-01) ;Lin, Chun-Yu ;Lee, Chien-Hsing ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Wang, Hui-MinChen, Chung-YiInflammation is a serious health issue worldwide that induces many diseases such as sepsis. There has been a vast search for potentially effective drugs to decrease mortality from sepsis. Pheophytin a is a chlorophyll-related compound derived from green tea. We found that pre-treatment with pheophytin a suppressed lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and interleukin-1 beta in RAW 264.7 macrophages. NO synthase-2 (NOS2) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression levels were repressed by pre-treatment with pheophytin a at both the transcriptional and translational levels. Pheophytin a inhibited NOS2 promoter activity, but not its mRNA stability, through extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2). This suppression was reversed by ERK1/2 inhibitor (U0126). Pheophytin a reduced signal transducers and activators of transcription 1 (STAT-1) activation, without an obvious influence on activator protein-1 (AP-1) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappa B). These results suggest that pheophytin a functions by down-regulating the transcriptional levels of inflammatory mediators and blocking the ERK and STAT-1 pathways.Item type:Item, Tellimagrandin II, A Type of Plant Polyphenol Extracted from Trapa bispinosa Inhibits Antibiotic Resistance of Drug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus(2019-11-01) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Huang, Wan-Chun ;Lin, Chun-Yu ;Wang, Wen-HungHung, Ling-ChienThe emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become a critical global concern. Identifying new candidates of anti-S. aureus agents is urgently required because the therapeutic strategies for infected patients are limited currently. Therefore, the present study investigated whether Tellimagrandin II (TGII), a pure compound extracted from the shells of Trapa bispinosa, exhibits antibacterial effects against MRSA. We first showed that TGII exerted potent inhibitory activity against MRSA with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 128 mu g/mL. The obtained fractional inhibitory concentration suggested that TGII could alone exert antistaphylococcal activity, and TGII combined with low doses of antibiotics displayed synergistic effects against MRSA. Moreover, we found that TGII exerted bactericidal activity by reducing the expression of mecA followed by the negative regulation of the penicillin-binding protein 2a (PBP2a) of MRSA. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images further confirmed that TGII destroyed the integrity of the cell wall of MRSA and caused the loss of cytoplasm content. In conclusion, we evidenced the antibacterial effects of TGII against MRSA, which enables the effective dose of current antibiotics to be reduced and the predicament of drug-resistant S. aureus isolates to be overcome.Item type:Item, The Ring-Shaped CMOS-Based Phototransistor With High Responsivity for the UV/Blue Spectral Range(2009-07-01) ;Chang, Yu-Wei ;Huang, Yang-Tung ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThe ring-shaped phototransistor with a floating bulk enclosed by a ring-shaped photodiode is proposed to enhance the responsivity for the ultraviolet/blue spectral range. The P-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor and N-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor phototransistors were manufactured using a standard 0.35-mu m complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. When the phototransistors were illuminated with 400-nm light, the measurement results for 3-V bias demonstrated a responsivity higher than 1500 A/W, which is also superior to that of other reported photodetectors manufactured using a standard CMOS technology. Even for very small bias voltages such as 0.1 V, the phototransistor can exhibit a responsivity of 17.9 A/W.
