Item type:Item, A macro model of silicon spiral inductor(2002-05-01) ;Su, CY ;Chen, LP ;Chang, SJ ;Tseng, BMLin, DCA new automatic parameter extraction method for modeling Of silicon Spiral inductors is presented. The Concepts on self-resonance frequency (f(sr)) and quality factor of a spiral inductor are utilized to develop the concise extraction procedures. In the mean time, the presented extraction procedures are programmed as a macro to execute all the extractions automatically and shorten the extraction time effectively. Without any additional optimization or curve fitting, almost all the patterns of S-parameters between the measured and the simulation of extracted data implemented with the extraction macro are less than 5%. The programmed extraction macro makes it fast and accurate to extract and characterize the behaviours or silicon-based spiral inductors with different structures and substrate resistivities. It provides a concrete foundation commercial silicon radiofrequency (RF) Circuit design to realizing on-chip silicon RF integrated circuits. Furthermore, the directly extracted equivalent model parameters, without an optimization, also provide a rule to fairly, effectively and phsically judge the performance of a spiral inductor. The scheme only applies pulses of specified widths, which are proportional to path delays, to paths-under-test. It is simple, eliminating the conventional two-pattern test for delay faults. Issues, such as sensitivity of applied pulse widths w.r.t. path delay, related with the scheme were studied and an experimental chip was implemented to demonstrate the scheme.Item type:Item, A study on Mandarin broadcast news speech recognition(2004) ;Chen, CL ;Wang, YR ;Chen, SH ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringIn this paper, a basic Mandarin broadcast news speech recognition system is constructed using the MATBN database. It considers the acoustic modeling for Mandarin base-syllables, particles, and paralinguistic phenomena. It also considers environment-dependent acoustic modeling for three recording environments: studio anchors, outdoor reporters, and outdoor interviewee. Moreover, it incorporates a bigram language model with adaptation using data in MATBN. Syllable recognition rates of 89.64, 84.42 and 61.62% were achieved for the three environments of anchors, reporters and interviewees, respectively.Item type:Item, An efficient geometry-constrained location estimation algorithm for NLOS environments(2005) ;Chen, CL ;Feng, KT ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringMobile location estimation has attracted a significant amount of attention in recent years. The network-based location estimation schemes have been widely adopted based on the radio signals between the mobile device and the base stations. The two-step Least Square (LS) method has been studied in related research to provide efficient location estimation of the mobile devices. However, the algorithm results in inaccurate location estimation with the existence of the Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) errors. A Geometry-constrained Location. Estimation (GLE) algorithm is proposed in this paper with the consideration of different. geometric layouts between the mobile device and its associated base stations. In order to enhance the precision of the location estimate, the GLE scheme is designed to incorporate the geometric constraints within the formulation of the two-step LS method. The proposed GLE scheme can both preserve the computational efficiency from the two-step LS algorithm and obtain precise location estimation under NLOS environments. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed GLE algorithm can achieve better accuracy, comparing with other existing schemes, in mobile location estimation.Item type:Item, Effect of coplanar probe pad design on noise figures of 0.35 mu m MOSFETs(2000-07-20) ;Su, CY ;Chen, LP ;Chang, SJ ;Huang, GWHo, YPThe effects of different coplanar ground-signal-ground (GSG) probe pads on the noise figure characteristics of submicron MOSFETs are presented. Devices with top-level metal as probe pads shielded by grounded bottom-level metal possess the most appropriate probe pad structure for characterising the noise performance of MOSFETs. Equivalent circuits of the probe pads are used to explain the different noise behaviours.Item type:Item, Effects of glucose on Chinese hamster ovary cells growth and physiology.(1998-11-01) ;Tseng, CP ;Chen, CL ;Hwang, SM ;生物科技學系Department of Biological Science and TechnologyItem type:Item, Effects of glucose on Chinese hamster ovary cells growth and physiology.(1998-11-01) ;Tseng, CP ;Chen, CL ;Hwang, SM ;生物科技學系Department of Biological Science and TechnologyItem type:Item, Hybrid location estimation and tracking system for mobile devices(2005) ;Chen, CL ;Feng, KT ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringMobile location estimation has attracted lots of attention in recent years. The location algorithms for the mobile devices can generally be categorized into the network-based and the satellite-based systems. Both types of system have their advantages and limitations under different environments (i.e. urban, suburban, or rural area). In order to provide adaptation to various scenarios for location estimation, a hybrid location scheme, which combines both the satellite-based and the network-based signals, is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme utilizes the two-step Least Square method for estimating the three-dimensional position (i.e. the longitude, latitude, and altitude) of the mobile devices. The Kalman filtering technique is exploited to both eliminate the measurement noises and to track the trajectories of the mobile devices. A fusion algorithm is employed to obtain the final location estimation from both the satellite-based and the network-based systems. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid location scheme provides accurate location estimation by adapting itself under different environments.Item type:Item, Impacts of HF etching on ultra-thin core gate oxide integrity in dual gate oxide CMOS technology(2003) ;Lee, DY ;Lin, HC ;Chen, CL ;Huang, TYWang, THIn this paper, we investigate the effects of HF etching on the integrity of ultra-thin oxides in dual gate oxide (DGO) CMOS technologies. We found that both the BF concentration in the etching solution and the over etching (OE) time are important parameters that greatly affect the device performance and reliability. Our results indicate that, with a proper over etching period, using a heavy BF solution results in better ultra-thin gate oxides in terms of reduced defect density, improved device performance and reliability, compared to using diluted BF solution. It is also found for the first time that negative-bias-temperature instability (NBTI) immunity for PMOSFETs is improved by using heavy HF solution.Item type:Item, Nitrogen implantation and in situ HF vapor clean for deep submicrometer n-MOSFETs(2002-01-01) ;Chen, JH ;Lei, TF ;Chen, CL ;Chao, TSWen, WYThis work describes a high performance and reliable deep submicrometer n-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (n-MOSFET) with ultrathin gate oxide prepared by combining nitrogen gate electrode implantation and native-oxide-free in situ HF vapor preoxidation cleaning. The results herein reveal that the performance and reliability, including the leakage current of the ultrathin gate oxide, charge-to-breakdown, drain current, transconductance, charge pumping current, stress induced leakage current, and hot carrier reliability of n-MOSFETs are all significantly improved. The enhanced reliability and performance are attributed to the native-oxide-free process, smooth interface, and reduced incorporation of As in the gate oxide which results from HF vapor cleaning and nitrogen implantation. Model description and case study(2002-01-01) ;Chen, CL ;Tsuang, BJ ;Pan, RC ;Tu, CYLiu, JHA Circuit Trajectory transfer-coefficient model (CTx) is developed in this study based on the parameterization presented in a companion paper (Tsuang et al., Atmos. Environ., in this issue). CTx was tested by applying it to Metropolitan Taipei for the entire year 1998. The model was calibrated in January and verified throughout the year. The results indicate that the correlation coefficients (r) for daily concentrations of CO, NOx, SO2, PM2.5, and PM10 were 0.75, 0.69, 0.39, 0.55 and 0.55, respectively, with biases of the means ranging from 0% to 20% during the verification period. According to contour plots of contributed concentrations to the city, "teleconnections" between source emissions and their contributions to the city can be identified. In addition, the model captures most of the dust episodes except during the periods of Asian dust storms. The sensitivity analysis shows that the calculated PM10 concentration is most sensitive to its dry deposition velocity as well as its emission rate. A more thorough study on the deposition velocity of PM2.5 is suggested. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. This paper discusses the design of multimedia extension, called MFU (Multimedia Function Unit), in this CPU. The MFU has the following two special features. (1) Support three more instructions for permutation operations, parallel distance operations, and parallel average operations; (2) implement two MFU subunits: one without the parallel multiplier and the other without the parallel shifter and converter (for permutation). This paper also does performance analysis by estimating the performances of the MFU with and without these features on some chosen multimedia benchmarks. These performance analysis results can justify our MFU design.
