This algorithm included two neural networks; One is Gabor-type Filtering Cellular Neural Networks which used to simulate human retina, the other is Self-Organized Fuzzy Inference Neural Networks which used to simulate the brain. Both the neural networks can be considered as feed-forward neural networks. Thus, we can say that the whole system which has been introduced in this paper is also a feed-forward system and which contains the ability of parallel processing.Item type:Item, A convenient solver for solving optimal control problems(2005-07-01) ;Huang, CH ;Tseng, CH ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThis paper focuses on the development of a solver for solving optimal control problems. Detection of these RNA H-type pseudoknots can improve our understanding of RNA structures and their associated functions. However, the currently existing programs for detecting such RNA H-type pseudoknots are still time consuming and sometimes even ineffective. Therefore, efficient and effective tools for detecting the RNA H-type pseudoknots are needed. Results: In this paper, we have adopted a heuristic approach to develop a novel tool, called HPknotter, for efficiently and accurately detecting H-type pseudoknots in an RNA sequence. In addition, we have demonstrated the applicability and effectiveness of HPknotter by testing on some sequences with known H-type pseudoknots. Our approach can be easily extended and applied to other classes of more general pseudoknots.Item type:Item, A simple transmission line de-embedding method for accurate RF CMOS noise modeling(2004) ;Guo, JC ;Huang, CH ;Lien, WY ;Wu, CM電子工程學系及電子研究所We propose a simple method to de-embed the transmission line and pads' parasitics from the measured RF noise of multi-finger MOSFETs with aggressive gate length scaling down to 80 nm and 65 nm respectively. Good agreement has been realized between measurement and simulation in terms of S-parameters and NFmin (minimum noise figure) for RF CMOS devices with various finger numbers by using this novel de-embedding method. The extracted NFmin after de-embedding matches well with the published noise correlation matrix method but is relatively simple without resort to complicated matrices calculation.Item type:Item, A universal calibration curve for the TSI aerodynamic particle sizer(2004-05-01) ;Tsai, CJ ;Chen, SC ;Huang, CH ;Chen, DR環境工程研究所A universal calibration curve for the accurate determination of particle aerodynamic diameter by the TSI APS (TSI, Inc., St. Paul, MN, USA) operating at various temperature, pressure, particle, and gas properties is proposed. The previous dimensionless APS response function proposed by Chen et al. (1985) uses the Stokes number as the governing parameter and is valid in the Stokesian regime only. In the non-Stokesian regime, an additional non-Stokesian correction factor is needed to correct for the indicated aerodynamic diameters of the APS. The universal curve in the present study is based on the relationship between V-p* and Stm, where V-p* = V-p /V-g and V-p is particle velocity, V-g is gas velocity at the nozzle exit, and Stm is modified Stokes number. Stm incorporates the non-Stokesian effect and is defined as 24St/(Re* C-D), where Re is the flow Reynolds number and C-D is the particle drag coefficient. We find that the new calibration curve can predict the particle aerodynamic diameter accurately within 6% of error under different operating conditions and particle/gas properties from the referenced condition without the need to introduce additional correction factors.Item type:Item, Adhesion, permeability, and mechanical properties of multilayered blown films using maleated low-density polyethylene blends as adhesion-promoting layers(2003) ;Huang, CH ;Wu, JS ;Huang, CC ;Lin, LS應用化學系We have fabricated three-layer films, comprising a varying content of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) as the internal layer and blends of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and low-density ethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (LDPE-g-MAH) as the external layers, by a coextrusion blown-film process. We chose to use blends to promote the adhesion between EVOH and LDPE and to reduce the number of layers in the coextrusion system. The peel strength increased sharply when the amount of LDPE-g-MAH was greater than 12.5 wt% and we associate it with the promotion of adhesion between layers brought about by specific interactions between EVOH and LDPE-g-MAH. FT-IR spectroscopic analysis showed an increase in the intensity of the absorbance of the ester band upon increasing the content of LDPE-g-MAH, which indicates that a chemical reaction occurs that promotes adhesion at the interface. The tensile strength did not change significantly with increasing LDPE-g-MAH content, which had a small effect on elongation and modulus in both the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD). Tear strength decreased continuously with increasing LDPE-g-MAH content, in both the MD and TD, as a result of the greater ease of crack propagation in the EVOH layer. The oxygen permeability of the three-layer films remained almost constant upon varying the amount of LDPE-g-MAH. These three-layer films all followed the theoretical prediction made by the inverse additivity rule. The water vapor permeabilities of the three-layer films, however, were affected by the degree of hydrogen bonding, which was analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The effects of this hydrogen bonding resulted in a discrepancy between the experimental findings and the theoretical predictions, especially when the EVOH content was increased.Item type:Item, Adsorption capacity of a nylon filter of filter pack system for HCl and HNO3 gases(2004-02-01) ;Tsai, CJ ;Huang, CH ;Lu, HH ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringLaboratory and field studies were conducted to evaluate the collection capacity of the nylon filter (Nylasorb membrane, 47 mm diameter, 1.0 mum pore size, Gelman Laboratory, USA) for HCl and HNO3. In ambient sampling, the field results show that one piece of the nylon filter in the filter pack of an annular denuder system (ADS) or a honeycomb denuder system (HDS) has enough capacity to adsorb HCl and HNO3 gases evaporated from the particles collected on the Teflon filter. The laboratory results show that the individual capacity of the nylon filter to adsorb HCl gas is 8, 160, and 240 mug and that of HNO3 gas is 160, 1400, 1900 mug at 20% +/- 5%, 55% +/- 5%, and 80% +/- 5% relative humidity, respectively. At low humidity, the efficiency of the nylon filter for HCl gas will be decreased substantially when HNO3 co-exists. It is decreased to as little as 35-50% when relative humidity is low, at 20% +/- 5% for the added amount of HNO3 is from 40 to 145 mug. A monolayer adsorption theory was successfully employed to estimate the reduction of adsorbing capacity to adsorb HCl gas when HNO3 gas co-exists. There is no significant effect on the adsorbing efficiency of HNO3 when HCl co-exists; the collection efficiency is greater than 95% at all relative humidities.Item type:Item, Al2O3-Ge-On-insulator n- and p-MOSFETs with fully NiSi and NiGe dual gates(2004-03-01) ;Yu, DS ;Huang, CH ;Chin, A ;Zhu, CXLi, MFHigh-kappa, A1(2)O(3)/Ge-on-insulator (GOI) n- and p-MOSFETs with fully silicided NiSi and germanided NiGe dual gates were fabricated. At 1.7-nm equivalent-oxide-thickness (EOT), the A1(2)O(3)-GOI with metal-like NiSi and NiGe gates has comparable gate leakage current with A1(2)O(3)-Si MOSFETs. Additionally, A1(2) O-3-GOI C-MOSFETs with fully NiSi and NiGe gates show 1.94 and 1.98 times higher electron and hole mobility, respectively, than A1(2)O(3)-Si devices, because the electron and hole effective masses of Ge are lower than those of Si. The process with maximum 500 degreesC rapid thermal annealing (RTA) is ideal for integrating metallic gates with high-kappa to minimize interfacial reactions and crystallization of the high-kappa material, and oxygen penetration in high-kappa MOSFETs.Item type:Item, Answering queries on graphical decision models with fuzzy parameters: Algorithms and comparisons(2004) ;Kao, HY ;Huang, CH ;Li, HL ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThe reasoning strategy is a critical component for expert systems or decision support systems. After thorough self-evaluation and environmental scan, the knowledge workers need a reliable mechanism for diagnosis and an optimal suggestion for problem solving. This paper designs a reasoning model with a well-known graphical decision model, influence diagrams. In the proposed model, fuzzy probabilities as well as crisp probabilities are involved. The influence diagrams work compactly in problem diagnosis and decision making aid. Two algorithms to handle the fuzzy parameters, piecewise linearization and alpha-cut methods will be implemented and compared.Item type:Item, Cellular neural networks and PCA neural networks based rotation/scale invariant texture classification(2004) ;Lin, CT ;Chen, SA ;Huang, CH ;Chung, JF電控工程研究所In this paper, we proposed a new index which can be used to classify the texture image. Because of the adjustment of image capture device or the distortion of image capture, the texture image may be transformed. Usually those transformations included rotation and scale. The proposed method provides an algorithm to avoid those effects respectively. This approach is the combination of Cellular Neural Networks and Principle Component Analysis Neural Networks. This fact implies it is a feed-forward neural networks, and it does not need any training set.Item type:Item, Characterization of Si/SiGe heterostructures on Si formed by solid phase reaction(2002-03-01) ;Huang, CH ;Chin, A ;Chen, WJ ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsWe have characterized the Si/Si(0.6)Ge(0.4) heterostructure formed by two-step solid-phase reaction. Single crystalline behavior is evidenced by X-ray diffraction. In sharp contrast to conventional strain-relaxed SiGe, an extremely smooth surface close to the Si substrate is measured by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Good material quality is further evidenced from the near identical current-voltage characteristics for thermal oxide grown on Si/Si(0.6)Ge(0.4) and on the Si control sample. Using 5% sodium carbonate/glycerin coating, the collection efficiencies of the porous metal disk for nitric acid, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fluoride are found to be higher than those of the silica gel tube and the impinger when the sampling time is less than 3.0 h. The gas collection capacity of the porous metal disk coated with 5% sodium carbonate is calculated to be 3.9, 5.8, and >2.5 mg for nitric acid, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fluoride, respectively. For ammonia, the porous metal disk coated using 4% citric acid performs slightly better than the impinger, and the corresponding capacity is slightly greater than 33.6 mg.Item type:Item, Control of particle re-entrainment by wetting the exposed surface of dust samples(2003-10-01) ;Tsai, CJ ;Lee, CI ;Lin, JS ;Huang, CH環境工程研究所Experiments have been conducted in a Wind tunnel to measure the emission factor of re-entrained particles from a dry or wetted dust sample with a smooth or rough surface. Effects of wind velocities and water contents in the sample on the emission factor also were investigated. The results show that re-entrainment of particles can be controlled efficiently in a certain period of time when the surface watering density is between 60 and 80 g/m(2) at a wind velocity from 7 to 15 m/sec for both smooth and rough surfaces. After the effective period is elapsed, which depends on wind speeds and environmental conditions, water will eventually evaporate, and re-entrainment starts to occur again. The experimental water evaporation rates at different wind speeds are in good agreement with theoretical values. After watering for 210, 130, and 110 min at average wind velocities of 0, 2, and 4 m/sec, respectively, the dust sample must be replenished with water to avoid dust re-entrainment.Item type:Item, Design and testing of a personal porous-metal denuder(2001-07-01) ;Tsai, CJ ;Huang, CH ;Wang, SH ;Shih, TS環境工程研究所A personal denuder made of porous-metal disc has been designed and tested. The entire casing and substrate support are made of Teflon, and the sampling flow rate is 2 L/min. The sampler consists of a two-stage cascade impactor (having cut-off aerodynamic diameters of 9.5 and 2.0 mum, respectively) to collect liquid particles and two porous-metal discs (diameter: 2.54 cm; pore size: 100 mum; thickness: 0.317 cm) to collect basic and acidic gases, respectively. The denuder was tested for gas collection efficiency and capacity at a gas concentration of two times the permissible exposure limit (PEL, promulgated by Taiwan Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)), with relative humidity (RH) of 80 +/- 5% and temperature of 30 +/- 3 degrees C. The test data indicate that the gas collection efficiency is high, and the capacity is sufficient for the acidic/basic gas sampling in the workplace. Using 5% (w/v, g/mL) sodium carbonate/1% (w/v) glycerol coating on the porous-metal disc, the collection efficiency is 91.2 +/- 0.26% (average +/- standard deviation), 95.08 +/- 0.06% and 100 +/- 0.04%, and the capacity is 4.47, 7.2, and 2.5 mg for HNO3, HCl and HF, respectively. The collection efficiency for NH3 for the porous-metal disc with 4% (w/v) citric acid coating is 96.39 +/- 0.13%, and the capacity is 33.6 mg.Item type:Item, Device level characterization for energy bandgap of strain-relaxed SiGe and oxide/SiGe barrier height(2004) ;Huang, CH ;Yu, DS ;Chin, A ;Chen, WJMcAlister, SPFrom the interface state density with energy plot measured by capacitance-voltage characteristics, we have derived the energy bandgap of strain-relaxed Si1-xGex (x: 0.4 and 0.7) for the first time at the device level, because the allowed states increases sharply near the conduction and valence bandedges. We find that the energy bandgap of SiGe is reduced from 0.90 to 0.83 eV as the Ge composition increases from Si0.6Ge0.4 to Si0.3Ge0.7. In contrast, similar oxide/Si1-xGex conduction-band barrier heights of similar to3.1 eV have been obtained for both SiGe cases using Fowler-Nordheim tunneling. These results are in good agreement with published theoretical and experimental data from material level characterization. The device level characterization is especially important because the SiGe composition and material property may be altered after thermal cycles for device fabrication. The inlet air of monitor 1 was conditioned with water vapor to increase its RH, whereas monitor 2 operated normally in ambient conditions. Experimental data showed that PM10 readings of monitor 1 were nearly the same as monitor 2, as long as the RH of its conditioned incoming air did not exceed similar to 80-85%. However, when the RH exceeded similar to 80-85%, PM10 readings of monitor 1 became higher than monitor 2, and the difference increased with increasing RH. The measurement of pressure drop across the filter was also conducted, and the data revealed that the increase of pressure drop per unit of PM,, concentration decreased when RH was higher than similar to 80-85%, as compared with the case when RH was lower than 80-85%. This is perhaps because of more porous structure of deposited particles in the beta-gauge monitor when RH is greater than similar to 80-85%. The theoretical calculation using an evaporation model and a thermodynamic model has been conducted to simulate the beta gauge readings. The results show that the theoretical PM10 concentrations using the evaporation model are in better agreement with the actual beta-gauge readings than those using the thermodynamic equilibrium model.Item type:Item, Effect of gravity on particle collection efficiency of inertial impactors(2001-03-01) ;Huang, CH ;Tsai, CJ ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringThis study has investigated the effect of gravitational force on particle collection efficiency in inertial impactors numerically and experimentally. In the numerical study, two-dimensional flow field in the inertial impactor was simulated by solving the Navier-Stokes equations with the control volume method. Particle trajectories were then calculated to obtain the collection efficiency at different Reynolds numbers, which are based on nozzle diameter. This study shows that gravitational force increases the particle collection efficiency when the Reynolds number is below about 1500. The numerical results were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data of Marple et al. (JAPCA, 37, 1303) (1987), Rubow et al. (American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 48, 532) (1987) and those obtained in the present study. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. The SBT films prepared at 450 degreesC under various annealing times were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) as fluorite phase. The polarization versus electric field (P-E) behavior of SBT thin films pyrolyzed and annealed at 450degreesC for 60 min was linear with dielectric constant of 100. The 450 degreesC annealed films have the leakage current density of about 4 x 10(-8) A/cm(2) at 200 kV/cm. The dependence of cumulative failure on dielectric breakdown field and time-dependent dielectric breakdown studies for these paraelectric SBT films indicated that the longer the annealing time, the better the breakdown field, whereas the film with no annealing treatment had a lifetime of over 10 years on operation at the electric field of 0.8 MV/cm. In an attempt to operate at low voltage with sufficient large memory window, various ultra-thin Si3N4 buffer layers in thickness of 3.5, 2, and 0.9 nm were employed. From the results of C-V measurements, the memory window can be as large as 0.8 V at the bias amplitude of 5 V for the sample with 0.9 nm SixNy buffer layer. Well-crystallized perovskite structures have been further confirmed by the spectra of X-ray diffraction measurements. The leakage current, which plays a very important role in the data retention, of Pt/SBT (245 nm)/Si3N4 (0.9 nm)/p-Si (10 0) can be as low as 2.5 X 10(-8) A/cm(2) at 200 kV/cm. Excellent fatigue-free performance with up to 10(10) read/write cycles and good retention time of > 2 h have been obtained. Optimization and scaling of SBT thin films are believed to be effective in pursuing extremely low voltage operation, high-density and liable 1T nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memories.
