Item type:Item, Biochemical sensing device(2005-05-12) ;Yang, Yuh-Shyong ;Wu, Chung-Yu ;Lu, Ude ;Shih, Yu-ChuanHu, Ben C.-P.The invention is a biochemical sensing device, including a photodiode capable of sensing the light generated by the reaction made by a specific compound, a specific enzyme, and a luminol as well as converting the optical signal into a current signal. Also, there is a current/voltage converting circuit capable of converting the current signal into an analog voltage signal. In turn, the analog voltage signal can be converted into a digital voltage signal through an analog/digital converter. Finally, by using an electronic device, the digital voltage signal can be received and analyzed, and through the analysis, the amount of the specific compound can be measured. The device of the invention can provide a simple real-time medical assay that can be performed in massive amount. For this reason, the drawbacks of a conventional spectrum analysis instrument of being bulky and expensive can be improved.Item type:Item, Raman scattering and efficient UV photoluminescence from well-aligned ZnO nanowires epitaxially grown on GaN buffer layer(2005-05-12) ;Cheng, HM ;Hsu, HC ;Tseng, YK ;Lin, LJHsieh, WFOptical phonon confinement and efficient UV emission of ZnO nanowires were investigated in use of resonant Raman scattering (RRS) and photoluminescence (PL). The high-quality ZnO nanowires with diameters of 80-100 nm and lengths of several micrometers were epitaxially grown through a simple low-pressure vapor-phase deposition method at temperature 550 &DEG; C on the precoated GaN(0001) buffer layer. The increasing intensity ratio of n-order longitudinal optical (LO) phonon (A(1) (nLO)/E-1 (nLO)) with increasing scattering order in RRS reveals the phonon quantum confinement as shrinking the diameter of ZnO nanowires. The exciton-related recombination near the band-edge transition dominate the UV emissions at room temperature as well as at low temperature that exhibits almost no other nonstoichiometric defects in the ZnO nanowires.Item type:Item, Low-power low-voltage reference using peaking current mirror circuit(2005-05-12) ;Cheng, MH ;Wu, ZW ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringA low-power low-voltage bandgap reference using the peaking current mirror circuit with MOSFETs operated in the subthreshold region is presented. However, the physics of the magnetic state and transport properties of the interface still remains open. In this article, bilayer La0.7Ce0.3MnO3/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3/STO films with a nearly perfect interface were studied. The p-n interface possibly becomes an antiferromagnetion-insulating layer as their parent compound, LaMnO3, and confines the bias current flowing only on the top layer. The top and bottom layers interact with each other in a way that a strong anisotropy tin magnetoresistance measurements was observed. A magnetic ring of high permeability and an annular-shaped rubber pad were mounted on the stator 0.55 mm below the permanent magnet of the rotor. Computer simulations were compared with experimental measurements to decide on the material and configuration of the critical components. The natural frequencies for lateral and rotational modes of the rotor are around 22 Hz measured by impulse method. Both the magnetic bearing motor with and without magnetic damping are rotated at a rated speed of 3840 rpm, which is far above the first critical speed of 1305 rpm. Without magnetic damping, the natural damping ratio in the radial direction of the rotor is 0.0655. After damping, it increases to 0.1401. We have demonstrated by both experimental measurement and theoretical calculation that the antishock performance is significantly improved by the innovative damping technology in a passive magnetic bearing motor. We construct feasible basic patterns in each parameter region and combine these basic patterns into large patterns on one- and two-dimensional lattices. The basic patterns are characterized and constructed through formulating parameter conditions based on a geometrical setting. Spatial entropy associated with these patterns are computed or estimated. We also consider three typical boundary conditions and investigate their influences on pattern formations and spatial entropy. Several numerical computations are performed to illustrate such a formation of patterns. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. It is found that the minima positions reveal two regimes characterized by the matching fields and the fractional ones. It is believed that the complex behavior may come from more than one vortex being captured per pinning site. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the saturation number of vortices per pinning site together with vortex-vortex interaction gives the complex vortex configurations. Domain walls were initially formed and pinned in the vicinity of the notches. Two distinct behaviors are observed in the current-assisted magnetization reversal process. When the applied field is near switching field (Delta H < 7 Oe), the injected current directly switched the wire magnetization, and the needed critical current varied linearly and significantly with the field intensity. In contrast, when the field is relatively far from the switching field (Delta H > 7 Oe), the current only moves the domain wall to a local stable state, and the critical current varied slightly with the field. Moreover, two resistance jumps during current scanning are observed in the cases with magnetization reversals. These results reveal that the current driven effect is closely related to the initial domain states, and are explained by a theoretical model based on spin transfer effect. The photoluminescence and ultraviolet-visible characteristics of the presynthesized CdS nanoparticles in N,N-dimethylformamide and in PEO domains of the PSEO block copolymers were determined. Because of strong interactions between the CdS nanoparticles and PEO chains, as shown by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the incorporation of the CdS nanoparticles prevented the PEO cylinders from properly crystallizing; this was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry and wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurements. The intercylinder distance between the swollen and reduced-crystallinity CdS/PEO cylinders in turn increased, as confirmed by small-angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. At a high CdS concentration (43 wt % or 8.3 vol % with respect to PEO), however, the hexagonally packed cylindrical nanostructure of the PSEO diblock copolymers was destroyed. In this paper, the optimal design of a fine magnetic pole pitch of less than 1 mm fabricated on a printed circuit board has been successfully investigated and demonstrated. An optimal magnetic pole pitch having large variation and strength in magnetic-flux density was obtained. The characteristics of the optimal magnetic pole pitch are good for signal detection and processing. The measured values of the magnetic-flux density in the z component are in agreement with the calculated values. When NbTi films are sandwiched between Co, we found that there are critical thicknesses of 20 nm for x=0.4 and 27 nm for x=0.6, below which no superconducting transition could be found. Using a series resistor model, we extracted the unit area resistance of one pair of Co/NbTi interfaces and compared with the pure Nb case we have reported. The influence of mean free paths and superconducting coherence lengths is analyzed. To real-time accurately align the position of every exposed FBG section prior to UV exposure, a single-period reference fiber grating with strong refractive index modulation is probed by applying an interferometric side-diffraction method to measure the grating phase as the position reference. In this way the overlapped FBG sections can be connected section-by-section without obvious phase errors, even when the written index-modulation is weak. Due to the relatively low electron mobility, the recombination concentrates in the layer next to the cathode. As the voltage increases, the recombination extends to the subsequent layers because the electric field strongly enhances the electron mobility. Assume that the layers are arranged in the order of red, green, blue, and electron blocking from the cathode, the emission color can be continuously tuned by the voltage over a wide range. Taking typical material parameters and emission spectra for the layers, we show that Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinate can move from (0.5,0.5) (orange) to (0.3,0.5) (green) to (0.2,0.3) (blue) as the voltage increases from 3 to 13 V. The ratio between the electron and hole mobilities of the green layer and the electron barrier between green and blue layers is found to be crucial for the wide range of color tunability. In this letter, we report a technique that enables the precise measurement of the important parameters of solder electromigration, such as activation energy, critical length, threshold current density, effective charge numbers, and electromigration rate. Patterned Cu/Ti films in a Si trench were employed for eutectic SnPb solder to be reflowed on, and thus solder Blech specimens were fabricated. Atomic force microscope was used to measure the depletion volume caused by electromigration on the cathode end. The threshold current density is estimated to be 8.5x10(3) A/cm(2) at 100 degrees C, which relates directly to the maximum allowable current that a solder joint can carry without electromigration damage. This technique facilitates the scientifically systematic investigation of electromigration in solders. The dynamic programming approach takes quadratic time but linear space, while the nondynamic-programming approach takes less time but more space. We propose a new implementation of the latter approach which seems to get the best for both time and space for the DNA application. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
