Item type:Item, Architecture and method for fine granularity scalable video coding(2006-07-04) ;Huang ;Hsiang-Chun ;Wang ;Chung-NengChiangA robust fine granularity scalability video encoding includes a base layer encoder and an enhancement layer encoder in which motion compensated difference images are generated by comparing an original image to predicted images at base layer and enhancement layer with motion compensation. Based on leaky and partial predictions, a high quality reference image is constructed at the enhancement layer to improve temporal prediction. In the construction of the high quality reference image, one parameter β controls the number of bitplanes of the enhancement layer difference coefficients used and another parameter α controls the amount of predictive leak. A spatial scalability module allows the processed pictures at the base layer and the enhancement layer to have identical or different spatial resolutions.Item type:Item, Double-triggered silicon controlling rectifier and electrostatic discharge protection circuit thereof(2006-07-04) ;Ker ;Ming-Dou ;HsuKuo-ChunA double-triggered silicon controller rectifier (SCR) comprises a plurality of N+ diffusion areas, a plurality of P+ diffusion areas, a first N-well region, a second N-well region and a third N-well region formed in a P-substrate. Although the external direct current magnetic field was applied to the ferrogel, the drug was accumulated around the ferrogel, but the accumulated drug was spurt to the environment instantly when the magnetic fields instantly switched "off". Furthermore, rapid to slow drug release can be tunable while the magnetic field was switched from "off" to "on" mode. The drug release behavior from the ferrogel is strongly dominated by the particle size of Fe3O4 under a given magnetic field. The best "magnetic-sensitive effects" are observed for the ferrogels with larger Fe3O4 particles due to its stronger saturation magnetization and smaller coercive force. Furthermore, the amount of drug release can be controlled by fine-tuning of the switching duration time (SDT) through an externally controllable on-off operation in a given magnetic field. It was demonstrated that the highest burst drug amounts and best "close" configuration of the ferrogel were observed for the SDT of 10 and 5 min, respectively. By taking these peculiar magnetic-sensitive characteristics of the novel ferrogels currently synthesized, it is highly expected to have a controllable or programmable drug release profile that can be designed for practical clinical needs.Item type:Item, Strain enhanced DC-RF performance of 0.13 mu m nMOSFETs on flexible plastic substrate(2006-07-06) ;Chin, A. ;Kao, H. L. ;Kao, C. H. ;Liao, C. C.Tseng, Y. Y.A 14.3% saturation current I-d,(sat) improvement and 0.75 dB minimum noise figure (NFmin) at 10 GHz were measured by applying similar to 0.7% tensile strain for 16 finger, 0.13 mu m RF MOSFETs with thin-body (40 mu m) substrate mounted on plastic. These excellent results for mechanical-strain on DC-RF MOSFETs are better than those of SiN-capped 90 nm strained-Si nMOSFETs and consistent with device simulations.Item type:Item, Method for eliminating crosstalk in a metal programmable read only memory(2006-07-06) ;Chang, Meng-FanWen, Kuei-AnnThe present invention provides a method for eliminating crosstalk (coupling noise) in a metal programmable read only memory. The metal programmable read only memory comprises a plurality of bit lines, a plurality of word lines, a plurality of precharge transistors, and a plurality of clamp transistors. When one of the bit lines is selected, bit lines adjacent to the selected bit line are fixed to a voltage value (VDD, GND or other voltages) by the clamp transistors. The clamping method can not cause voltage drops to the adjacent bit lines, and the crosstalk on the selected bit line can be eliminated simultaneously, so that the problem of read failures caused by the crosstalk in the high-speed metal programmable read only memory can be solved, and a higher speed can be reached.Item type:Item, Surface KOH treatment in AlGaN-based photodiodes(2006-07-06) ;Lan, W. -H. ;Huang, K. -C. ;Huang, K. F. ;電子物理學系Department of ElectrophysicsKOH treatment is investigated as a method to improve the IN characteristics of AIGaN-based photodiodes. The defects in the photodiode may enhance the dark current, and cause some photocurrents with incident photon energy less than the absorption edge. With the KOH treatment in the process, the defects and whisker-like features could be reduced. High rejection ratio in the spectral responsivity could be achieved. The KOH treatment is a good method to reduce the surface defects in AlGaN-based photodiodes.Item type:Item, SSH and SHHGaInP/GaAs HBT divide-by-3 prescalers with true 50% duty cycle(2006-07-06) ;Tseng, S. C. ;Meng, C. C. ;Chen, W. Y. ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringTwo 50% duty cycle divide-by-3 prescalers - sample-sample-hold (SSH) and sample-hold-hold (SHH) prescalers - in the 2 pm GaInP/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) technology are realised. Current switchable emitter couple logic D flip-flops are employed to form both prescalers. The proposed SHH prescaler functions up to 2.6 GHz while the SSH prescaler operates from DC to 1.75 GHz. The maximum operating frequency of the SHH prescaler is enhanced about 50% compared with that of the SSH prescaler owing to better signal synchronisation.Item type:Item, Metal oxide-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry(2006-07-06) ;Chen, Yu-Chie ;Chen, Cheng-TaiLin, Ya-ShiuanThe invention provides a simple, rapid and cost-effective metal oxide-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MOALDI MS) without the addition of light-absorbing organic-matrix, comprising the use of (a) an inorganic metal oxide with light absorbing capability as an assisting material to render desorption/ionization of samples in laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry and (b) a citric acid buffer as the proton source for enhancing the iorization efficiency for analytes. W. ;Chang, Y. W. ;Shao, T. L. ;Chen, ChihTu, K. N.Effect of three-dimensional current distribution on void formation in flip-chip solder joints during electromigration was investigated using thermoelectrical coupled modeling, in which the current and temperature redistributions were coupled and simulated at different stages of void growth. Simulation results show that a thin underbump metallization of low resistance in the periphery of the solder joint can serve as a conducting path, leading to void propagation in the periphery of the low current density region. In addition, the temperature of the solder did not rise significantly until 95% of the contact opening was eclipsed by the propagating void. Overexpression of CDR1, an efflux pump, has been proposed as a major mechanism contributing to the drug resistance in Candida albicans. It has been demonstrated that biological fluids such as human serum can have profound effects on antifungal pharmacodynamics. The aim of this study is to understand the effects of serum in drug susceptibility via monitoring the activity of CDR1 promoter of C. albicans. Results: The wild-type C. albicans cells ( SC5314) but not the cdr1/cdr1 mutant cells became more susceptible to the antifungal drug when the medium contained serum. To understand the regulation of CDR1 in the presence of serum, we have constructed CDR1 promoter-Renilla luciferase ( CDR1p-RLUC) reporter to monitor the activity of the CDR1 promoter in C. albicans. As expected, the expression of CDR1p-RLUC was induced by miconazole. Surprisingly, it was repressed by serum. Consistently, the level of CDR1 mRNA was also reduced in the presence of serum but not N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, a known inducer for germ tube formation. Conclusion: Our finding that the expression of CDR1 is repressed by serum raises the question as to how does CDR1 contribute to the drug resistance in C. albicans causing candidemia. This also suggests that it is important to re-assess the prediction of in vivo therapeutic outcome of candidemia based on the results of standard in vitro antifungal susceptibility testing, conducted in the absence of serum.Item type:Item, DSM-PLW: Single-pass mining of path traversal patterns over streaming Web click-sequences(2006-07-14) ;Li, Hua-Fu ;Lee, Suh-Yin ;Shan, Man-Kwan ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMining Web click streams is an important data mining problem with broad applications. However, it is also a difficult problem since the streaming data possess some interesting characteristics, such as unknown or unbounded length, possibly a very fast arrival rate, inability to backtrack over previously arrived click-sequences, and a lack of system control over the order in which the data arrive. In this paper, we propose a projection-based, single-pass algorithm, called DSM-PLW (Data Stream Mining for Path traversal patterns in a Landmark Window), for online incremental mining of path traversal patterns over a continuous stream of maximal forward references generated at a rapid rate. According to the algorithm, each maximal forward reference of the stream is projected into a set of reference-suffix maximal forward references, and these reference-suffix maximal forward references are inserted into a new in-memory summary data structure, called SP-forest (Summary Path traversal pattern forest), which is an extended prefix tree-based data structure for storing essential information about frequent reference sequences of the stream so far. The set of all maximal reference sequences is determined from the SP-forest by a depth-first-search mechanism, called MRS-mining (Maximal Reference Sequence mining). Theoretical analysis and experimental studies show that the proposed algorithm has gently growing memory requirements and makes only one pass over the streaming data. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Y. ;Chen, FalinChu, H. S.The objective of this work is to examine the reactant gas transport and the cell performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) with a tapered flow channel design. It is expected that, with the reduction in the channel depth along the streamwise direction, the reactant fuel gas in the tapered channel can be accelerated as well as forced into the gas diffuser layer to enhance the electrochemical reaction and thus augment the cell performance. The effects of liquid water formation on the reactant gas transport are taken into account in the present study. Numerical predictions show that the cell performance can be enhanced with the fuel channel tapered, and the enhancement is more noticeable at a lower voltage. The results also reveal that the liquid water effect in general influences the cell performance and the effect becomes significant at lower voltages. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. W. ;Kechiantz, A. ;應用化學系 ;應用化學系分子科學碩博班Department of Applied ChemistryWe report theoretical and experimental results of our investigation on carrier capture and relaxation processes in undoped and modulation-doped InAs/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots (QDs). We find that carrier capture and relaxation in the ground state is faster in the modulation-doped quantum dots compared to the case in neutral dots at an excitation level as low as one electron-hole pair per dot. The ultrafast photoluminescence (PL) transient rise time observed in the charged dots is attributed to the relaxing of strained field induced by the presence of cold carriers in the dots. The Hamiltonian of electron's interaction with local vibrating field and carrier capture time are also calculated. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. The proposed approach includes four sequential mechanisms: (1) link flow loading, (2) link traffic moving, (3) link cost calculation, and (4) searching the shortest path. To deal with the traffic flows moving on lane-blocking links, specific incident-induced link traffic flow models, which are extended from the Lighthill-Whitham (L-W for short) model, are formulated. A simulation-based approach is then proposed to determine the instantaneous shortest path associated with each vehicle approaching to each given intersection on the network. In addition, numerical examples associated with diverse incident scenarios are investigated. The numerical results demonstrate the competitiveness of the proposed simulation-based method by reducing the network-wide path travel time by 11.4% and the incident impact on link traffic flows by 66.7% in comparison with the Paramics traffic simulator. It is expected that this study can provide linkage between the fields of incident management and dynamic traffic assignment that will allow the development of such related technologies as real-time incident-responsive route guidance and incident management systems. The abundance and the diversity of genomic data provide an excellent opportunity for identifying TFBSs. Developing methods to integrate various types of data has become a major trend in this pursuit. Results: We develop a TFBS identification method, TFBSfinder, which utilizes several data sources, including DNA sequences, phylogenetic information, microarray data and ChIP-chip data. Fora TF, TFBSfinder rigorously selects a set of reliable target genes and a set of non-target genes (as a background set) to find overrepresented and conserved motifs in target genes. A new metric for measuring the degree of conservation at a binding site across species and methods for clustering motifs and for inferring position weight matrices are proposed. For synthetic data and yeast cell cycle TFs, TFBSfinder identifies motifs that are highly similar to known consensuses. Moreover, TFBSfinder outperforms well-known methods.
