Item type:Item, Influence of a holey cladding structure on spectral characteristics of side-polished endlessly single-mode photonic crystal fibers(2006-08-01) ;Chen, Nan-Kuang ;Chi, Sien ;光電工程學系 ;光電工程研究所Department of PhotonicsWe experimentally investigate the spectral characteristics of side-polished endlessly single-mode photonic crystal fibers of different polishing depths and radii of curvature that are important to mode field diameter. evanescent coupling, waveguide losses, higher-order mode excitation, and dispersion slopes of photonic crystal fiber components. A polished photonic crystal fiber with a greater polishing depth or a larger radius of curvature shows a more dispersive characteristic. In contrast to conventional single-mode fibers, in photonic crystal fibers the evanescent field is more strongly localized, and the propagating light can be more efficiently guided within the deformed core. From the TEM identification, the nanocrystals are formed as the charge trapping layer after 900 degrees C 1-min RTA and the size is about 5 mn. They demonstrate the composition of nanocrystal is hafnium silicate from the X-ray-photoelectron-spectroscopy analysis. They verify the electric properties in terms of program/erase (P/E) speed, charge retention, and endurance. The sol-gel device exhibits the long charge retention time of 10(4) s with only 6% charge loss, and good endurance performance for P/E cycles up to 10(5).Item type:Item, Process for fabricating supersphere solid immersion lens(2006-08-01) ;Hsu ;Wensyang ;SunYi-TingThe present invention relates to process for fabricating supersphere solid immersion lens (SSIL). The procedure of the present invention comprises the steps of: firstly, coating a positive photoresist layer on a substrate, followed by first exposure and second exposure with different exposure dose separately by first mask and second mask to form the positive photoresist structure with different dimensions and depths. The first exposure dose is supplied enough to make sure the patterns of the first mask can be observed on the positive photoresist layer during the alignment of the second exposure process. And the following reflow process forms a supersphere solid immersion lens (SSIL) structure.Item type:Item, Simulation for optimization of mask error enhancement factor by design of experiments in both dry and immersion ArF lithography(2006-08-01) ;Yeh, Kwei-Tin ;Lin, Chih-Hung ;Hu, Ji-Ren ;Loong, Wen-An應用化學系Simulations for the optimization of the mask error enhancement factor (MEEF) by using Taguchi's design of experiment (DOE) method in both dry and immersion ArF lithography have been demonstrated here. By DOE, MEEF has been successfully reduced, and the process window hash also been enlarged. Furthermore, in immersion lithography, MEEF has been significantly reduced, and resolution is also enhanced. In this study, we determined the optimal process and optical parameters to enlarge the process window and reduce MEEFs for different types of mask by DOE.Item type:Item, Optical coarse packet-switched IP-over-WDM network (OPSINET): Technologies and experiments(2006-08-01) ;Yuang, Maria C. ;Lee, Steven S. W. ;Tien, Po-Lung ;Lin, Yu-MinShih, JulinOptical Packet Switching (OPS) has been envisioned as a prominent future optical networking technology for data-centric IP over Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks, or optical Internet. Such OPS technology however raises significant transport and Quality of Service QoS) challenges due to technological limitations. To circumvent OPS limitations, we have proposed a new Optical Coarse Packet Switching (OCPS) paradigm, which uses in-band-controlled per-burst switching and advocates traffic control enforcement to achieve high packet-loss performance and differentiated services. Based on OCPS, we have constructed an experimental IP-over-WDM network, referred to as OPSINET. OPSINET consists of two major types of nodes- edge routers, and Optical Label Switched Routers (OLSRs), and is facilitated with an out-of-band Generalized Multi-protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) control network. In this paper, we first introduce the OCPS paradigm. We then present the architecture of OPSINET, describe the in-band header/payload modulation technique, and detail the operations of the edge routers, OLSRs, and GMPLS control.Item type:Item, Synthesis and characterization of liquid-crystalline block copolymers with cyanoterphenyl moieties by atom transfer radical polymerization(2006-08-01) ;Lee, Kuan-Wei ;Wei, Kung-Hwa ;Lin, Hong-Cheu ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringA series of new mesomorphic block copolymers composed of different macroinitiators, including poly(ethylene oxide), polystyrene, and poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polystyrene, and polymethacrylate with a pendent cyanoterphenyl group were synthesized through atom transfer radical polymerization. The number-average molecular weights of the three diblock copolymers, determined by gel permeation chromatography, were 10,254, 9,772, and 15,632 g mol(-1), and their polydispersity indices were 1.17, 1.28, and 1.34. The mesomorphic and optical properties of all the block copolymers were investigated, and they possessed a smectic A phase with mesophasic ranges wider than 100 degrees C. Moreover, X-ray diffraction patterns provided evidence of the smectic A phase and the corresponding interdigitated packing of all the polymers. Such nitrides were deposited on a tungsten carbide (WC) die and silicon wafers by ion-beam-sputter evaporation of the respective metal under nitrogen ion-assisted deposition (IAD). The effects of N-2/Ar flux ratio, post annealing, ion-assisted deposition, deposition rate, and W doping in coating processing variables on hardness, load critical scratching, oxidation resistance, stress and surface roughness were investigated. The optimum N-2/Ar flux ratios in view of the hardness and critical load of TaN and Ta(1-x)W(x)Ny films were ranged from 0.9 to 1.0. Doping W into TaN to form Ta1-xWxPy films led significant increases in hardness' critical load, oxidation resistance, and reduced surface roughness. The optimum doping ratio was [W/(W + Ta)] = 0.85. From the deposition rate and IAD experiments, the stress in the films is mainly contributed by sputtering atoms. The lower deposition rate at a high N-2/Nr flux ratio resulted in a higher compressive stress. A high compressive residual stress accounts for a high hardness. The relatively high compressive stress Was attributed primarily to peening by atoms, ions and electrons during film growth, the Ta1-xWxNy films showed excellent hardness and strength against a high temperature, and sticking phenomena can essentially be avoided through their use. Ta1-xWxNy films showed better performance than the TaN film in terms of mechanical properties and oxidation resistance.Item type:Item, Ethical customer value creation: Drivers and barriers(2006-08-01) ;Lin, Grace Tyng-Ruu ;Lin, Jerry ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThere is a long-standing discussion on the positive interactions between enterprise value creation and business competitiveness. The corporate value can be seen as being created from three major sources within the cycle - from employees, from processes, and from customers or investors through reinvestment. To achieve competitive advantages, a firm must create more value than its competitors in the industry. Emphasizing that, firms should explore the positive drivers of customer value creation, allowing for a true value creation that will lead to increments in competitiveness. In reality, however, there are also barriers that hinder customer value creation. Targeting the above issues that have not yet been explored or analyzed, we have collected related literature at the first stage. Based on these presumable assumptions, this paper then conducts an empirical study by surveying and analyzing the relevance given by the investigated leading machinery measuring equipment firms in Taiwan, regarding the concerns as drivers and barriers in relation to customer value creation. This paper especially aims to answer several key questions: What drivers revolving around employees and processes can facilitate the organization to create more value for its customers? Conversely, what barriers block the organization from creating value for customers in examining the same dimensions? Does value creation direct an organization's profitability and competitiveness? Our questionnaire survey results show that the most recognized and agreed drivers of customer value creation in consideration of employees are "distinctive skills", "personal experience", "learning and training", and "team work"; and, in regard to the firm's processes, the key drivers are "innovation and evolution", "R&D capability", and "capability for differentiation". Conversely, the most recognized and agreed barriers to customer value creation in relation to employees are a "distrustful environment" and "inadequate knowledge"; and, in terms of processes, they are "short of core technology", "poor resource support", and "bad services and attitudes". Furthermore, our in-depth interview outcomes reveal that "capital sufficiency" and "mergers and acquisitions" are in practice considered to be other important customer value creation drivers; in contrast, "cultural and structural barriers" and "short of mechanisms to measure customer value creation effectively" are viewed as additional critical barriers to customer value creation.Item type:Item, Comparison of InGaAs MOSFETs with germanium-on-insulator CMOS(2006-08-01) ;Chin, Albert ;Chen, C. ;Yu, D. S. ;Kao, H. L.McAlister, S. P.High mobility channel materials such as Ge and compound semiconductors (CS) show promise for future generation MOSFETs. The challenge is to integrate these materials with a Si substrate and create good interfaces in the devices. Here we show dislocation-free CSOI and Ge-on-insulator (GOI) devices with good characteristics. The InAlAs/InGaAs/InAlAs-OI on Si MESFETs shows a mobility of 8100 cm(2)/V s. To reduce the leakage current an Al2O3/InGaAs MOSFET was fabricated. Good 451 cm(2)/V S mobility was obtained, higher than the 340 cm(2)/V S of GOI MOSFETs. However the marginally better mobility than GOI and 18X lower mobility than MESFETs indicate that the soft phonon scattering, high-kappa interface scattering and process variations are challenges for CS MOSFETs. In contrast, the GOI CMOS provides a simpler process and significantly higher electron and hole mobilities than its Si counterparts. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. The column-tree system is joining the column-trees and link beams in the field while the column-trees are fabricated in the shop by welding stub beams to the column. The proposed ductile column-tree connections have two distinctively improved connection details which are no weld access hole detail and a widened flange of the stub beam. Nonlinear finite element analysis demonstrated the effectiveness of the improved connection details which significantly reduce the stress concentration and plastic strain demands at the beam flange groove weld. Cyclic testing of three full-scale specimens was conducted to verify the proposed connection details. All the specimens successfully developed ductile behavior with no brittle fracture by forming the plastic hinging of the beam away from the beam-column interface. The widened flange and no weld access hole details are effective in reducing the potential of brittle fracture. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. A microphone array data acquisition hardware is also designed and implemented for the proposed speech enhancement system. Mutually matched microphones are needed for traditional multidimensional noise reduction methods, but this requirement is not practical for consumer applications from the cost standpoint. To overcome this issue, the proposed system adapts the mismatch dynamics to maintain the theoretical performance allowing unmatched microphones to be used in an array. Furthermore, to achieve a high speech recognition performance, the speech recognizer is usually required to be retrained for different vehicle environments due to different noise characteristics and channel effects. The proposed system using the H-infinity filtering approach, which makes no assumptions about noise and disturbance, is robust to the modeling error in a channel recovery process. Consequently, the real vehicular experimental results show that the proposed frequency domain beamformer provides a satisfactory speech recognition performance without the need to retrain the speech recognizer.(1)Item type:Item, A monolithic SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistor gilbert upconverter with inductor-capacitor current mirror load and lumped-element rat-race balun(2006-08-01) ;Wu, Tzung-Han ;Meng, Chinchun ;Wu, Tse-Hung ;Huang, Guo-Wei電信工程研究所A 5.2GHz upconversion Gilbert mixer with single-ended intermediate frequency (IF), local oscillator (LO), and RF ports is demonstrated using 0.35 mu m SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) technology. The upconverter has a single-ended IF port. In addition, a lumped-element rat-race hybrid is inserted in the LO input stage to maintain balanced LO signals. The physics of the lumped-element rat-race is discussed in this paper. A passive LC current mirror is used to convert the mixer's differential outputs into a single-ended output and double the output current. The design methodology of the LC current mirror and a new approach to improve the power gain with the output buffer are developed in this paper. The fully matched Gilbert upconverter has the conversion gain of -1dB, OP1dB of -10dBm and OIP3 of 6dBm when input IF=300MHz, LO = 4.9GHz and output RF = 5.2GHz. The LO-IF isolation is -36dB and the LO-RF isolation is -39dB. The supply voltage is 3.3V, the current consumption is 11.5mA, and the die size is 0.98 x 0.83 mm(2) with six integrated on-chip inductors.Item type:Item, Single-mode InGaAs submonolayer quantum dot photonic crystal VCSELs(2006-08-01) ;Yang, H. P. D. ;Hsu, I. C. ;Lai, F. I. ;Lin, G.Hsiao, R. Single-fundamental-mode CW output power of 3.8 mW at 28 mA has been achieved in the 990 nm range, with a threshold current of 0.9 mA. A side-mode suppression ratio ( SMSR) larger than 35 dB has been observed over the entire current operating range.Item type:Item, Error assessment in two lidar-derived TIN datasets(2006-08-01) ;Peng, Miao-Hsiang ;Shih, Tian-Yuan ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringAn accuracy assessment of two lidar-derived elevation datasets was conducted in areas of rugged terrain (average slope 26.6 degrees). Data from 906 ground checkpoints in various land-cover types were collected in situ as reference points. Analysis of the accuracy of lidar-derived elevation as a function of several factors including terrain slope, terrain aspect, and land-cover types was conducted. This paper attempts to characterize vegetation information derived from lidar data based on variables such as canopy volume, local roughness of point clouds, point spacing of lidar ground returns, and vegetation angle. This information was used to evaluate the accuracy of elevation as a function of vegetation type. The experimental results revealed that the accuracy of elevation was considerably correlated with five factors: terrain slope, vegetation angle, canopy volume, local roughness of point clouds, and point spacing of lidar ground returns. The results show a linear relationship between the elevation accuracy and the combination of vegetation angle and the point spacing of ground returns (r(2) > 0.9). The combination of vegetation angle and point spacing of ground returns explains a significant amount of the variability in elevation accuracy. Elevation accuracy varied with different vegetation types. The elevation accuracy was also linearly correlated with the product of the point spacing of ground returns and the tangent of the slope (r(2) = 0.9). A greater product value implies a greater elevation error. In addition, with regard to terrain aspect, one dense dataset with extra cross-flight data revealed a lesser impact Of aspect on elevation accuracy.Item type:Item, As-quenched microstructures of Cu3-XMnxAl alloys(2006-08-01) ;Yang, SY ;Liu, TF ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringIn the as-quenched condition, the microstructure of the Cu2.9Mn0.1 Al alloy was of DO3 phase containing gamma(')(1) martensite. This is similar to that reported by other workers in the Cu3Al alloy. However, the as-quenched microstructure of the Cu2.8Mn0.2Al or Cu2.7Mn0.3Al alloy were found to be of DO3 phase containing extremely fine L-J precipitates, whereas for Cu2.6Mn0.4Al alloy, it was a mixture of (DO3 + L2(1) + L-J) phases. These results are different from those proposed by Bouchard et al. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. These spectra are combined with earlier work involving laser induced fluorescence, absorption spectra and Fourier transform emission spectra, to enable a rotational analysis and deperturbation of vibrational levels of the B state up to v' = 16. Numerous perturbations were noted within the B (3)Sigma(-) state, and the origin of these is discussed. In a number of cases, these perturbations can be attributed to interactions with specific other electronic states of SO, such as A (3)Pi, C (3)Pi, d (1)Pi, and A '' (3)Pi(+). (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc.
