C.Lin, Deng-SungSodium chloride (NaCl) films were grown on an Si(100)-(2 x 1) surface at near room temperature by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The atomic structure and growth mode of the prototypical ionic materials on the covalent bonded semiconductor surface is examined by synchrotron core-level x-ray photoemission spectrum (XPS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and first-principles calculations. The Si 2p, Na 2p, and Cl 2p core-level spectra together indicate that adsorbed NaCl molecules at submonolayer coverage [i.e., below 0.4 monolayer (ML)] partially dissociate and form Si-Cl species, and that a significant portion of the dangling-bond characteristics of the clean surface remains after NaCl deposition of 1.8 MLs. The deposition of 0.65-ML NaCl forms a partially ordered adlayer, which includes NaCl networks, Si-Cl species, adsorbed Na species, and isolated dangling bonds. The STM results revealed that the first adlayer consists of bright protrusions which form small c(2 x 4) and (2 x 2) patches. Above 0.65 ML, the two-dimensional NaCl double-layer growth proceeds on top of the first adlayer.Item type:Item, Ultra fast self-corrected polarization modulated ellipsometer(2011-02-28) ;Tsai, Hsiu-Ming ;Chen, Leng-Chun ;Chao, Yu-Faye ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA high speed self-corrected algorithm is proposed for the polarization modulated ellipsometry (PME). In this post-flight analysis, we prove that a set of optimized ellipsometric parameters (EPs) can be obtained by using the intensities at 4 specific temporal phases. The correction ability to its initial phase by this technique has been demonstrated through a twisted nematic liquid crystals (TN-LC) cell under the driving of a square wave. Furthermore, the optimal modulation amplitude in obtaining the accurate and precise set of EPs will be discussed in this work. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Nanoscale crystallites were found to comprise of the Cu-Al/Si recording layer before and after signal writing and the energy dispersive spectroscopy revealed insignificant composition fluctuation in disk sample. Analytical results indicated the signal properties of disk samples are correlated with a moderate improvement of crystallinity and the formation of Cu and Si solid-solution phases due to element mixing in mark area, rather than the formation of Cu(3)Si silicide and recrystallization of recording layer as reported by previous studies. We report the characteristics of ZnO-based microcavities (MCs) in the strong coupling regime at RT with a vacuum Rabi splitting of 72 meV. The impact of scattering states of excitons on polariton dispersion is investigated. Only the lower polariton branches (LPBs) can be clearly observed in ZnO MCs since the large vacuum Rabi splitting pushes the upper polariton branches (UPBs) into the scattering absorption states in the ZnO bulk active region. In addition, we systematically investigate the polariton relaxation bottleneck in bulk ZnO-based MCs. Angle-resolved photoluminescence measurements are performed from 100 to 300 K for different cavity-exciton detunings. A clear polariton relaxation bottleneck is observed at low temperature and large negative cavity detuning conditions. The bottleneck is suppressed with increasing temperature and decreasing detuning, due to more efficient phonon-assisted relaxation and a longer radiative lifetime of the polaritons. Experimental results indicate V(th) shift under dynamic stress is more serious than that under static stress due to charge trapping within the high-k dielectric. Capacitance-voltage techniques demonstrated that electron trapping under dynamic stress was located in the high-k dielectric near the source/drain overlap region rather than throughout the overall dielectric layer. This implies in real circuit operation, the phenomenon of electrons trapped in high-k near the source/drain overlap is the main issue affecting V(th) instability. The optical principle is investigated. To enhance the electrically tunable focusing range of the negative lens power of the LC lens for a large zoom ratio, we adopted two composite LC lenses. Each composite LC lens consists of a sub-LC lens and a planar polymeric lens. The zoom ratio of the optical zooming system reaches similar to 7.9:1 and the object can be zoomed in or zoomed out continuously at the objective distance of infinity to 10 cm. The potential applications are cell phones, cameras, telescope and pico projectors. Both samples were heated from room temperature to 200 degrees C in a thermally insulated chamber. In both samples, the phase transitions were observed to change from tetragonal to cubic. The temperature region at which the phase transition (Curie region) of Ru-doped 0.9PZN-0.1PT occurred not only broadened but also shifted to a lower temperature. The refractive indices were extremely stable in this region, meaning that Ru-doped 0.9PZN-0.117 is a more favorable medium for the fabrication of optical memories. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. To observe the wrinkled intima of the intestine, which spreads without folding around the circumference of the capsule when a capsule endoscope with a diameter that slightly exceeds that of the intestine passes through it, the RICE uses a cone mirror, a radial window shell, and a focus optical module that comprise the radial imaging system. This concept was demonstrated in a packaged optical simulator. The RICE optical model also has been established and verified by many simulations and experiments. In minimizing the sagittal and tangential aberrations, the optical module of the RICE has achieved an F-number of 4.2, a viewing angle of 65.08 degrees, and an RMS radius of the 4th to 6th fields of less than 17 um. A comparison of these characteristics with those of the focus optical module that is used in FICE lenses reveals that the spot size is 50% larger for each field, and the modulation transfer function (MTF) is remarkably improved from 7% to 36% at 100 lp/mm on the 5th field of the sagittal plane. Such an anticorrelation is explained by a large valence-band-mixing induced splitting due to the shape and strain anisotropies. The strength and phase of valence band mixing are also found to play an important role in the tuning of fine structure splitting using an in-plane magnetic field.Item type:Item, An integrated MCDM technique combined with DEMATEL for a novel cluster-weighted with ANP method(2011-03-01) ;Yang, Jiann Liang ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyTraditionally, most importance-assessing methods used to demonstrate the importance among criteria by preference weightings are based on the assumptions of additivity and independence. In fact, people have found that using such an additive model is not always feasible because of the dependence and feedback among the criteria to somewhat different degrees. To solve the issue the analytic network process (ANP) method is proposed by Saaty. The general method is easy and useful for solving the above-mentioned problem. However in ANP procedures, using average method (equal cluster-weighted) to obtain the weighted supermatrix seems to be irrational because there are different degrees of influence among the criteria. Therefore, we intended to propose an integrated multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques which combined with the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and a novel cluster-weighted with ANP method in this paper, in which the DEMATEL method is used to visualize the structure of complicated causal relationships between criteria of a system and obtain the influence level of these criteria. And, then adopt these influence level values as the base of normalization supermatrix for calculating ANP weights to obtain the relative importance. Additionally, an empirical study is illustrated to demonstrate that the proposed method is more suitable and reasonable. By the concept of ideal point, some important conclusions drawn from a practical application can be referred by practitioners. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. The fluorescence intensity of 3b was enhanced upon adding [Cu(ClO(4))(2)], which reached a maximum with approximately 4 equiv. of Cu(2+) but then started to decrease in intensity at higher Cu(2+) concentrations. Job plot experiments revealed a 1:2 binding stoichiometry of 3b with Cu(2+). Based on (1)H NMR titration results, we infer that there are two possible binding sites for Cu(2+) in 3b: one at the lower-rim phenolic-OH and amide groups, and the second at the beta-amino alpha,beta-unsaturated ketone groups. It is important to note that during the complexation of 3b with [Cu(ClO(4))(2)], the Cu(2+) ions were reduced to Cu(+) by both the phenolic OH and the amines of the beta-amino alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones. Furthermore, control compounds 6 and 9b were synthesized to clarify the possible binding sites of Cu(2+) in 3b. By comparing the binding constants of 3b, 6, and 9b with Cu(2+), we found that 3b exhibited a positive allosteric behavior toward the coordination of two Cu(2+) ions.Item type:Item, High-Performance Poly-Si Nanowire Thin-Film Transistors Using the HfO2 Gate Dielectric(2011-03-01) ;Lee, Chen-Ming ;Tsui, Bing-Yue ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsHigh-performance polycrystalline-silicon (poly-Si) nanowire (NW) thin-film transistors (TFTs) using hafnium dioxide (HfO2) as gate dielectric is successfully fabricated for the first time. The excellent short-channel characteristics are attributed to the high-kappa gate dielectric, ultrathin poly-SiNW channel thickness, and omega-shaped gate structure. The record high driving capability of 549 mu A/mu m results from the ultrashort gate length (L-G), thin equivalent oxide thickness, and Ni silicide metal source/drain. This letter reveals the opportunity of high-performance poly-Si TFT circuits for system-on-panel and 3-D integrated circuit (3-D IC) applications.Item type:Item, Design and Implementation of Readout Circuit with Threshold Voltage Compensation on Glass Substrate for Touch Panel Applications(2011-03-01) ;Lin, Yu-Ta ;Ker, Ming-Dou ;Wang, Tzu-Ming ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsA new on-panel readout circuit with threshold voltage compensation for capacitive sensor in low temperature polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistor (LTPS-TFT) process has been proposed. In order to compensate the threshold voltage variation from LTPS process variation, the proposed readout circuit applies a novel compensation approach with switch capacitor technique. In addition, a 4-bit analog-to-digital converter ( ADC) is added to identify different sensed capacitor values and further enhances the overall resolution of touch panel. The proposed generalized detection framework constructed by parallel interference cancellation (PIC), group, and iteration techniques provides three parameters and three sub-algorithms to generate two efficient detection algorithms and conventional BLAST-ordered decision feedback (BODF), grouped, iterative, and B-Chase detection algorithms. Since the group interference suppression (GIS) technique is applied to the proposed detection algorithms, the complexities of the preprocessing (PP) and tree search (TS) can be reduced. In (8,8) system with uncoded 16-QAM inputs, one example of the T1 algorithm can save complexity by 21.2% at the penalty of 0.6 dB loss compared with the B-Chase detector. The T2 algorithm not only reduces complexity by 21.9% but also outperforms the BODF algorithm by 3.1 dB.Item type:Item, Two Tests for Supplier Selection Based on Process Yield(2011-03-01) ;Pearn, W. L. ;Liao, Mou-Yuan ;Wu, Chien-Wei ;Chu, Yao-Tsung工業工程與管理學系Market share is highly corrected with customer satisfaction and business success; many companies increase their outsourcing level to keep their core competition. Supplier selection problems have become an important issue of production management. Process yield is a standard criterion in the manufacturing industry as a common measure on process performance. The index S(PK) provides an exact measure on the process yield for normal processes. However, most studies considered the assessment of index S(PK) for just one single supplier; the testing procedure for suppliers selection has not been done at present. Hence, the principal purpose of this research is to determine the more capable process between two competing suppliers. Two tests are presented based on S(PK), and four bootstrap methods are used for obtaining the test statistics. By Monte Carlo simulations, performance comparisons of these methods are performed in terms of empirical size and selection power. Finally, a case on the color filter manufacturing process is investigated to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method.Item type:Item, Field Dependence of Porous Low-k Dielectric Breakdown as Revealed by the Effects of Line Edge Roughness on Failure Distributions(2011-03-01) ;Lee, S. C. ;Oates, A. S. ;Chang, K. M. ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsWe investigate the electric field (E) dependence of the breakdown of porous low-k dielectrics by measuring the changes in the failure time distribution resulting from the presence of line edge roughness. We show that the Weibull beta increases with decreasing field, clearly demonstrating that dielectric breakdown does not exhibit 1/E or E(-n) characteristics.Item type:Item, Generalized synchronization of chaotic systems with different orders by fuzzy logic constant controller(2011-03-01) ;Li, Shih-Yu ;Ge, Zheng-Ming ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThe fuzzy logic constant controller (FLCC) is introduced in this paper. Unlike traditional method, a simplest controller is proposed via fuzzy logic design and Lyapunov direct method. Controllers in traditional method by Lyapunov direct method are always complicated or the functions of errors. We propose a new idea to design constant numbers as controllers, while the constant numbers are decided by the upper bound and the lower bound of the error derivatives. Via fuzzy logic rules, the strength of controllers in our new approach can be adjusted according to the error derivatives. Consequently, the slave system becomes exactly and efficiently synchronized to the trajectory of master system through FLCC. Two examples, Lorenz system and four order Chen-Lee system, are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the new controllers in chaos generalized synchronization. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
