Item type:Item, Pedagogies of food and ethical personhood: TV cooking shows in postwar Taiwan(2015-11-02) ;Wei, Ti ;Martin, Fran ;傳播與科技學系Department of Communication and TechnologyTaking one of the most representative subgenres of lifestyle TV, the cooking show, as a case study, in this article, we examine the history and changing cultural meanings of this televisual genre in the context of Taiwan\'s postwar social history and TV industry. We conduct textual analyses of Taiwanese cooking shows across three different historical stages: Fu Pei Mei\'s shows (the 1960s-1980s), Chen Hong\'s shows (the 1990s), and Metrosexual Uber-Chef with Master Ah-Ji (the 2000s), in order to advance a critical exploration of the complex relationships between these popular media texts and their social and industrial contexts. We argue that, in line with the ongoing transformations in Taiwan\'s society and television industry over the postwar era, the cooking show essentially shifted from educational-cultural to entertainment programming. However, at the same time, the pedagogical function of teaching both cooking skills and life ethics was maintained throughout the different stages, albeit represented very differently in each of the three periods, corresponding with the social and industrial contexts pertaining in each.Item type:Item, Using a Two-Tier Test to Examine Taiwanese Graduate Students' Misunderstanding of Responsible Conduct of Research(2015-11-02) ;Pan, Sophia Jui-An ;Chou, Chien ;教育研究所Institute of EducationThe present study investigates Taiwanese graduate students\' general understanding and misunderstanding of Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). A total of 580 graduate students responded to the self-developed Responsible Conduct of Research Reasoning Test. The results reveal that, first, students did not have sufficient knowledge to reason why a particular instance of research (mis)conduct was doable or not. Second, the statistical results show that female students, students majoring in the humanities or the social sciences, doctoral-level students, and students with RCR-related training outperformed others. In addition, the misbehaviors that students judged relatively uncritically comprise the following nine categories: (a) seeing authorship as a property or power, (b) misinterpreting research coauthors\' responsibilities, (c) inaccurately conducting the informed-consent process, (d) fabricating and falsifying research data, (e) misinterpreting the correct citation of research sources, (f) holding vague concepts of self-plagiarism, (g) misinterpreting the Taiwan Copyright Act, (h) accepting duplicate-publication practices, and (i) accepting piecemeal publication practices. The present study discusses participative students\' major misunderstandings of actual RCR-related practices. The study also presents further implications and suggestions based on the findings.Item type:Item, Back-gate bias effect on nanosheet hybrid P/N channel of junctionless thin-film transistor with increased I-on versus decreased I-off(2015-11-02) ;Cheng, Ya-Chi ;Chen, Hung-Bin ;Chang, Chun-Yen ;Wu, Yi-KangShih, Yi-JiaA hybrid P/N channel junctionless (JL) thin-film transistor (TFT) with back-gate bias (V-bg) has been demonstrated. By applying negative bias of V-bg = -8V in gate length of 50 nm shows excellent SS (<90 mV/dec), a negligible drain induced barrier lowering (DIBL), increased I-on versus decreased I-off (ratio > 10(8)), and high V-th modulation. The increased I-on simultaneously decreased I-off via negative V-bg is attributed to smaller surface E-field at ON-state, significantly reducing the impact on interface traps and thinner effective channel thickness at OFF-state, improving gate controllability. Hence, hybrid P/N JL-TFT with V-bg is a promising for low power circuit, power management, and System-on-Chip applications. However, the main drawback of THz spectroscopy is its extremely low sensitivity. In the present study, we report on signal enhancement in THz spectroscopy achieved by depositing amino acid molecules or their derivatives on a gold rod structured silicon substrate whose localized surface plasmon resonance is exhibited in the THz frequency region. The distinct peaks derived from the enhancement of the inherent spectrum based on a molecular crystal were clearly observed when a longitudinal plasmon resonance mode of the gold rod structure was excited and the plasmon resonance band overlapped the molecular/intermolecular vibrational mode. We discuss the mechanism by which surface-enhanced THz spectroscopy was induced from the viewpoint of the enhancement of light-matter coupling due to plasmon excitation and the modulation of the plasmon band by dipole coupling between the plasmon dipole and molecular/intermolecular vibrational modes. The projected image is either real or virtual. By effectively doubling the LC lens power following light reflection, the position of a projected virtual image can be made to vary from 42 to 360 cm, while the tunable range for a projected real image is from 27 to 52 cm on the opposite side. The optical principle of the AR system is introduced and could be further developed for other tunable focusing lenses, even those with a lower lens power. The benefits of this study could be extended to head-mounted display systems for vision correction or vision compensation. We believe that tunable focusing LC optical elements are promising developments in the thriving field of AR applications. The thin poly-Si channel has a low defect-density at the interface with the bulk, resulting in a steep subthreshold swing for the NVM transistors. The introduction of the stacked SiO2/AlOxNy tunnel layer and the SiNx charge-trap layer with a gradient bandgap leads to reliable retention and endurance at low voltage for the NVMs. The low thermal budget processes are desirable for the integration of the nano-scaled NVMs into system on panels. We investigate the effect of confinement on a minimal model of amoeboid swimmer. A complex picture emerges: (i) The swimmer's nature (i.e., either pusher or puller) can be modified by confinement, thus suggesting that this is not an intrinsic property of the swimmer. This swimming nature transition stems from intricate internal degrees of freedom of membrane deformation. (ii) The swimming speed might increase with increasing confinement before decreasing again for stronger confinements. (iii) A straight amoeoboid swimmer's trajectory in the channel can become unstable, and ample lateral excursions of the swimmer prevail. This happens for both pusher- and puller-type swimmers. For weak confinement, these excursions are symmetric, while they become asymmetric at stronger confinement, whereby the swimmer is located closer to one of the two walls. In this study, we combine numerical and theoretical analyses.Item type:Item, Multilayer MoS2 prepared by one-time and repeated chemical vapor depositions: anomalous Raman shifts and transistors with high ON/OFF ratio(2015-11-04) ;Wu, Chong-Rong ;Chang, Xiang-Rui ;Chang, Shu-Wei ;Chang, Chung-EnWu, Chao-HsinWe show that multilayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) grown with the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) may exhibit quite distinct behaviors of Raman shifts from those of exfoliated ones. The anomalous Raman shifts depend on CVD growth modes and are attributed to the modified dielectric screening and interlayer coupling of MoS2 in various growth conditions. With repeated CVD growths, we demonstrated the precise control over the layer number of MoS2. A decently large drain current, high ON/OFF ratio of 10(5), and enhanced field-effect mobility can be achieved in transistors fabricated on the six-layer MoS2.Item type:Item, A real-time monitoring system for soluble gas pollutants and it's application for determining the control efficiency of packed towers(2015-11-05) ;Chien, Chih-Liang ;Iswara, Aditya Prana ;Liou, Yi-Ling ;Wang, Bing-TsaiChang, Jui-ChiaoThis study used a parallel-plate wet denuder coupled with an ion chromatograph (PPWD-IC) to monitor soluble gas pollutants in the exhaust stack and investigate the removal efficiency of packed towers. Gas pollutant concentrations measured by the PPWD-IC system were first validated with those obtained by a manual porous metal denuder sampler (PDS) as the reference sampler. The measured concentrations of the PPWD-IC system are in good agreement with those of the PDS with the coefficient of determination (R-2) greater than 0.93. The PPWD-IC system was then used to determine the removal efficiency of packed towers in high-tech factories. Results show that the PPWD-IC system is able to monitor multiple high-concentration gas pollutants semi-continuously, such as HF, HCl, HNO2, HNO3, CH3COOH, and NH3, in the exhaust stack with a temporal resolution of 20 min. The PPWD-IC system was employed to test the gas removal efficiency of a new honeycomb wet scrubber in an optoelectronic factory. The removal efficiency of the wet scrubber equipped with the honeycomb module at the liquid-to-gas ratio of 18.5 L/m(3) is shown to be close to 100% for HF (112.4-448.4 ppbv) and CH3COOH (696.3-6537.0 ppbv) and 99% for HCI (3394,9-10794.5 ppbv), respectively. The FePd thin films were deposited on the glass substrates at room temperature by magnetron sputtering system. Post-annealing was carried out at 500, 600 and 700 degrees C, respectively, resulting in progressive increase of the average grain size and surface roughness of FePd thin films, as well as the improved film crystallinity. XRD results show that FePd thin films are predominantly (111)-oriented, indicating a well-ordered microstructure. The hardness and Young\'s modulus of FePd thin films measured by a Berkovich nanoindenter operated with the continuous contact stiffness measurements (CSM) option indicated that both mechanical properties are decreased with increasing the annealing temperature. Furthermore, the relationship between the hardness and films grain size appears to follow closely with the Hall-Petch equation. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. The proposed active guard ring structure comprises an I/O circuit and an active protection circuit, wherein the I/O circuit receives a trigger current via an input pad and generates a corresponding bulk current since being triggered. The active protection circuit, connected between the I/O circuit and a core circuit, detects whether the trigger current is a positive or negative current pulse. When an intensity of the trigger current is larger than a threshold value, the active protection circuit controls the I/O circuit to provide a sink or compensation current so as to neutralize the bulk current and to reduce the net current flowing into or sourced from the core circuit, thereby increasing the latch-up resistance and immunity of the core circuit.Item type:Item, PORTABLE NONINVASIVE INSPECTION DEVICE(2015-11-05) ;OU-YANG Mang ;HUANG Ting-Wei ;YANG Chin-Siang ;HSIEH Yao-FangLI Sing-TsungThe present invention discloses a portable noninvasive inspection device, which comprises a light source illuminates a target to generate an optical inspection signal; a probe head provides an optical path for said light source to receive said optical inspection signal; at least one switched filter module arranged in the optical path, allowing the optical inspection signal to pass there through to generate a corresponding spectral signal; and an image sensor arranged behind the switched filter module, receiving the spectral signal and generating a spectral image. The unprecedented reaction involved a nucleophilic attack of an aromatic amine on the in situ generated Michael adduct intermediate followed by six-electron ring cyclizations. It is contrary to the common belief that advocates involvement of coupling reactions between a Knoevenagel adduct and an aromatic amine to deliver substituted tetrahydroacridinones.Item type:Item, Enhanced critical current density in the pressure-induced magnetic state of the high-temperature superconductor FeSe(2015-11-09) ;Jung, Soon-Gil ;Kang, Ji-Hoon ;Park, Eunsung ;Lee, SangyunLin, Jiunn-YuanWe investigate the relation of the critical current density (J(c)) and the remarkably increased superconducting transition temperature (T-c) for the FeSe single crystals under pressures up to 2.43 GPa, where the T-c is increased by similar to 8 K/GPa. The critical current density corresponding to the free flux flow is monotonically enhanced by pressure which is due to the increase in T-c, whereas the depinning critical current density at which the vortex starts to move is more influenced by the pressure-induced magnetic state compared to the increase of T-c. Unlike other high-T-c superconductors, FeSe is not magnetic, but superconducting at ambient pressure. Above a critical pressure where magnetic state is induced and coexists with superconductivity, the depinning Jc abruptly increases even though the increase of the zero-resistivity T-c is negligible, directly indicating that the flux pinning property compared to the T-c enhancement is a more crucial factor for an achievement of a large J(c). In addition, the sharp increase in J(c) in the coexisting superconducting phase of FeSe demonstrates that vortices can be effectively trapped by the competing antiferromagnetic order, even though its antagonistic nature against superconductivity is well documented. These results provide new guidance toward technological applications of high-temperature superconductors.Item type:Item, Topological control of nitric oxide secretion by tantalum oxide nanodot arrays(2015-11-09) ;Dhawan, Udesh ;Lee, Chia Hui ;Huang, Chun-Chung ;Chu, Ying HaoHuang, Guewha S.Background: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a very important role in the cardiovascular system as a major secondary messenger in signaling pathway. Its concentration regulates most of the important physiological indexes including the systemic blood pressure, blood flow, regional vascular tone and other cardiac functions. The effect of nanotopography on the NO secretion in cardiomyocytes has not been elucidated before. In this study, we report how the nanotopography can modulate the secretion profile of NO and attempt to elucidate the genetic pathways responsible for the same by using Tantalum Oxide nanodot arrays ranging from 10 to 200 nm. A series of nanodot arrays were fabricated with dot diameter ranging from 10 to 200 nm. Temporal NO release of cardiomyocytes was quantified when grown on different surfaces. Quantitative RT-PCR and Western blot were performed to verify the genetic pathways of NO release. Results: After hours 24 of cell seeding, NO release was slowly enhanced by the increase of dot diameter from 10 nm up to 50 nm, mildly enhanced to a medium level at 100 nm, and increase rapidly to a high level at 200 nm. The temporal enhancement of NO release dropped dramatically on day 3. On day 5, a topology-dependent profile was established that maximized at 50 nm and dropped to control level at 200 nm. The NO releasing profile was closely associated with the expression patterns of genes associated with Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) pathway [GPCR, PI3K, Akt, Bad, Bcl-2, NF kappa B(p65), eNOS], but less associated with Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) pathway (TNF-alpha, ILK, Akt, I kappa Ba, NF kappa B, iNOS). Western blotting of Akt, eNOS, iNOS, and NF kappa B further validated that eNOS pathway was modulated by nanotopology. Conclusions: Based on the findings of the present study, 50, 100 nm can serve as the suitable nanotopography patterns for cardiac implant surface design. These two nanodot arrays promote NO secretion and can also promote the vascular smooth muscle relaxation. The results of this study can improve the heart stent design in the medical treatments.Item type:Item, Spontaneous orientation-tuning driven by the strain variation in self-assembled ZnO-SrRuO3 heteroepitaxy(2015-11-09) ;Zhu, Yuanmin ;Chang, Wei Sea ;Yu, Rong ;Liu, RuiruiWei, Tzu-ChiaoHeteroepitaxial ZnO and SrRuO3 were grown on SrTiO3 (111) substrates and formed a self-assembled wurtzite-perovskite nanostructure. Spontaneous orientation-tuning of the SrRuO3 pillars was observed, with the growth direction changing from [111](SRO) to [011](SRO) as the film thickness increased, which is attributed to a misfit strain transition from the biaxial strain imposed by the SrTiO3 substrate to the vertical strain provided by the ZnO matrix. The [011]-SrRuO3 and [0001]-ZnO combination presents a favorable matching in the nanocomposite films, resulting in higher charge carrier mobility. This vertically integrated configuration and regulation on the crystallographic orientations are expected to be employed in designing multi-functional nanocomposite systems for applications in electronic devices. However, the capacity of microcirculation would vary due to the gender differences. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a noninvasive technique to monitor tissue oxygenation dynamics. In this study, the far-infrared (FIR) source was used for physiological intervention of microcirculation. The experimental results show that the nature difference of oxygenation status exists between male and female during FIR irradiation. Therefore, we suggest the NIRS-based assessment should be calibrated with the gender-related effect for clinical diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease.
