In this paper, we demonstrated a hybrid inverter constructed by p-channel low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) TFTs and n-channel amorphous-indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (a-IGZO) TFTs. Hydrogenated LTPS TFTs and a-IGZO TFTs have been successfully fabricated on the same panel, followed by a rapid thermal annealing treatment to remove the hydrogens in the a-IGZO TFTs. The resulted hybrid inverter exhibits large noise margin closed to V-DD/2 and a high voltage gain as 68.3. Due to the complementary configurations in the static state, the inverter shows small current and thus consumes low power in hundreds of picowatts. As all the fabrication processes are compatible with conventional techniques, the reported results may open new opportunities in circuit design and applications for oxide TFTs.Item type:Item, System-Level ESD Protection for Automotive Electronics by Co-Design of TVS and CAN Transceiver Chips(2017-09-01) ;Chuang, Che-Hao ;Ker, Ming-Dou ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThis paper proposed a co-packaged methodology using transient voltage suppressor (TVS) chips and a controller area network (CAN) bus transceiver to ensure IEC 61000-4-2 system-level ESD protection. The design methodology is verified in a high-voltage silicon-on-insulator process for CAN transceiver chip and an 0.8-mu m bipolar process for TVS chips. The I-V curves of the TVS and CAN transceiver chip are evaluated by the transmission line pulsing system with the pulse width of 100 ns. The breakdown voltage of the bi-directional TVS chips and CAN transceiver chip are higher than +/- 80 V compared with the +/- 70 V fault voltage tolerance requirement. The clamping voltage of the TVS device is lower than +/- 130 V to discharge ESD current before the CAN transceiver chip breakdown for effective ESD protection. The design target of parasitic inductance by bonding wires is calculated to meet the clamping voltage requirement. The CAN bus transceiver IC with TVS chips co-packaged has been evaluated to pass the IEC61000-4-2 contact +/- 15-kV stress without any hardware damages and latch-up issues. Item type:Item, Bright carbon dots as fluorescence sensing agents for bacteria and curcumin(2017-09-01) ;Baig, Mirza Muhammad Fahad ;Chen, Yu-Chie ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryCarbon dots (C-dots) are fluorescent nanomaterials that possess good photostability and low toxicity. They have been used as sensing probes and bioimaging agents for a variety of biological species. Numerous methods are available to generate C-dots. Nevertheless, simple and straightforward synthesis methods must be explored for the synthesis of C-dots from inexpensive, natural sources. In this study, we developed a simple method to generate C-dots from inexpensive chicken egg whites through a one-step heating reaction. The size of the generated C-dots was 3.3 +/- 0.4 nm, and the quantum yield of the C-dots was as high as similar to 43%. The as-prepared C-dots can be used as multicolor labeling agents for bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Furthermore, the generated C-dots can be used as Forster resonance energy transfer sensing probes for curcumin, which is an active ingredient of turmeric and medicinal pigment. The feasibility of using the C-dots as selective sensing probes to determine the amount of curcumin from complex turmeric powder and condensed turmeric tablets is also demonstrated. C. ;Liao, Y.Rubin, M.Context. This paper describes the modelling of gas and dust data acquired in the period August to October 2014 from the European Space Agency's Rosetta spacecraft when it was in close proximity to the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Aims. With our 3D gas and dust comae models this work attempts to test the hypothesis that cliff activity on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can solely account for the local gas density data observed by the Rosetta Orbiter Spectrometer for Ion and Neutral Analysis (ROSINA) and the dust brightnesses seen by the Optical, Spectroscopic, and Infrared Remote Imaging System (OSIRIS) in the considered time span. Methods. The model uses a previously developed shape model of the nucleus. From this, the water sublimation rates and gas temperatures at the surface are computed. The gas expansion is modelled with a 3D Direct Simulation Monte Carlo algorithm. A dust drag algorithm is then used to compute dust volume number densities in the coma, which are then converted to brightnesses using Mie theory and a line-of-sight integration. Furthermore we have studied the impact of topographic re-radiation on the models. Results. We show that gas activity from only cliff areas produces a fit to the ROSINA/COPS data that is as statistically good as a purely insolation-driven model. In contrast, pure cliff activity does not reproduce the dust brightness observed by OSIRIS and can thus be ruled out. On the other hand, gas activity from the Hapi region in addition to cliff activity produces a statistically better fit to the ROSINA/COPS data than purely insolation-driven outgassing and also fits the OSIRIS observations rather well. We found that topographic re-radiation does not contribute significantly to the sublimation behaviour of H2O but plays an important role in how the gas flux interacts with the irregular shape of the nucleus. Conclusions. We demonstrate that fits to the observations are non-unique. We can conclude however that gas and dust activity from cliffs and the Hapi region are consistent with the ROSINA/COPS and OSIRIS data sets for the considered time span and are thus a plausible solution. Models with activity from low gravitational slopes alone provide a statistically inferior solution. N-channel solution-processed organic thin film transistors (TFTs) based on a blend network of N,N`-bis(1H,1H-perfluorobutyl)-1,7-dicyanoperylene-3,4: 9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (PDIF-CN2) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires show remarkable electron field effect mobilities of up to 0.5 cm(2)/ V.s in ambient air, which is about five-fold higher than those based on pristine PDIF-CN2 films. When tested in both bias directions the output and transfer electrical hysteresis of those blend TFTs are negligible. In addition, their low processing temperature and flexible semiconducting layer makes them a highly promising means of realizing high performance, solution-processed n-channel organic TFTs.Item type:Item, Item type:Item, Discriminative subspace modeling of SNR and duration variabilities for robust speaker verification(2017-09-01) ;Li, Na ;Mak, Man-Wai ;Lin, Wei-Wei ;Chien, Jen-Tzung電機工程學系Although i-vectors together with probabilistic LDA (PLDA) have achieved a great success in speaker verification, how to suppress the undesirable effects caused by the variability in utterance length and background noise level is still a challenge. This paper aims to improve the robustness of i-vector based speaker verification systems by compensating for the utterance-length variability and noise-level variability. Inspired by the recent findings that noise-level variability can be modeled by a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) subspace and that duration variability can be modeled as additive noise in the i-vector space, we propose to add an SNR factor and a duration factor to the PLDA model. In this framework, we assume that i-vectors derived from utterances with comparable durations share similar duration-specific information and that i-vectors extracted from utterances within. a narrow SNR range have similar SNR-specific information. Based on these assumptions, an i-vector can be represented as a linear combination of four components: speaker, SNR, duration, and channel. A variational Bayes algorithm is developed to infer this latent variable model via a discriminative subspace training procedure. In the testing stage, different variabilities are compensated for when computing the likelihood ratio. Experiments on Common Conditions 1 and 4 in MST 2012 SRE show that the proposed model outperforms the conventional PLDA and SNR-invariant PLDA. Results also show that the proposed model performs better than the uncertainty-propagation PLDA (UP-PLDA) for long test utterances. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. The interaction of Enterobius vermicularis infection in particular with gut microbiota and induced immune responses has never been thoroughly examined. Methodology/Findings In order to answer the question of whether exposure to pinworm and mebendazole can shift the intestinal microbial composition and immune responses, we recruited 109 (30 pinwormnegative, 79 pinworm-infected) first and fourth grade primary school children in Taichung, Taiwan, for a gut microbiome study and an intestinal cytokine and SIgA analysis. In the pinworm-infected individuals, fecal samples were collected again at 2 weeks after administration of 100 mg mebendazole. Gut microbiota diversity increased after Enterobius infection, and it peaked after administration of mebendazole. At the phylum level, pinworm infection and mebendazole deworming were associated with a decreased relative abundance of Fusobacteria and an increased proportion of Actinobacteria. At the genus level, the relative abundance of the probiotic Bifidobacterium increased after enterobiasis and mebendazole treatment. The intestinal SIgA level was found to be lower in the pinworm-infected group, and was elevated in half of the mebendazole-treated group. A higher proportion of pre-treatment Salmonella spp. was associated with a non-increase in SIgA after mebendazole deworming treatment. Conclusions/Significance Childhood exposure to pinworm plus mebendazole is associated with increased bacterial diversity, an increased abundance of Actinobacteria including the probiotic Bifidobacterium, and a decreased proportion of Fusobacteria. The gut SIgA level was lower in the pinworminfected group, and was increased in half of the individuals after mebendazole deworming treatment.Item type:Item, trans-Stilbene C-Glycosides: Synthesis by a Microwave-Assisted Heck Reaction and Evaluation of the SGLT-2 Inhibitory Activity(2017-09-01) ;Ponnapalli, Kalyana Kumar ;Adak, Avijit Kumar ;Das, Anindya ;Song, Jen-ShinWu, Szu-HueiA protocol for the microwave-assisted Heck coupling reaction of C-aryl glycosides and styrenes has been developed for the synthesis of mono-and bis(C-glycoside) stilbenes. This method exclusively provides C-glycoside trans-stilbenes in good yields. The Pd-catalyzed Heck coupling re-action was successfully applied to various functionalized C-glycosyl aryl iodides and various substituted styrenes to deliver several C-glycoside trans-stilbenes with high selectivity. The obtained C-glycosyl trans-stilbenes were also examined for human SGLT-2 inhibitory activity.Item type:Item, A note on the fractional perimeter and interpolation(2017-09-01) ;Ponce, Augusto C. ;Spector, Daniel ;應用數學系Department of Applied MathematicsWe present the fractional perimeter as a set-function interpolation between the Lebesgue measure and the perimeter in the sense of De Giorgi. Our motivation comes from a new fractional Boxing inequality that relates the fractional perimeter and the Hausdorff content and implies several known inequalities involving the Gagliardo seminorm of the Sobolev spaces W-alpha,W-1 of order 0 < alpha < 1. The broadband visible probe spectrum has visualized the relaxation dynamics from the Soret band to Q-band and charge transfer (CT) band. Supported by two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy, global fitting analysis has successfully concluded the relaxation dynamics from the Soret band to be (1) electronic transition to Q-band (0.16 ps), (2) ligand dissociation and CT (0.94 ps), (3) relaxation of the CT state (4.0 ps), and (4) ligand rebinding (59 ps). Since different correlated color temperatures (CCTs) of background illumination are necessary for various lighting applications, a real-time tunable CCT of white LECs would be highly desired in modern smart lighting systems. In this work, a widely and dynamically tuning CCT (>10000 K) of white LEC is demonstrated by employing an electrochromic device (ECD) as a real-time controllable color filter. By increasing the applied bias on the ECD to attenuate more the red parts of white EL from the white LEC, the LEC-based white light source becomes more bluish and, in consequence, shows higher CCT. This proposed LEC-based white light source with the characteristics of wide CCT range and real-time tunability is suitable for most lighting applications and modern smart lighting systems. Here, we successfully demonstrated the thermally strained band gap engineering of transition-metal dichalcogenide bilayers by different thermal expansion coefficients between 2D materials and patterned sapphire structures, where MoS2 bilayers were chosen as the demonstrated materials. In particular, a blue shift in the band gap of the MoS2 bilayers can be tunable, displaying an extraordinary capability to drive electrons toward the electrode under the smaller driven bias, and the results were confirmed by simulation. A model to explain the thermal strain in the MoS2 bilayers during the synthesis was proposed, which enables us to precisely predict the band gap-shifted behaviors on patterned sapphire structures with different angles. Furthermore, photodetectors with enhancement of 286% and 897% based on the strained MoS2 on cone and pyramid-patterned sapphire substrates were demonstrated, respectively.Item type:Item, Bromine-Radical-Mediated Synthesis of -Functionalized ,- and ,epsilon-Unsaturated Ketones via C-H Functionalization of Aldehydes(2017-09-01) ;Kippo, Takashi ;Kimura, Yuki ;Ueda, Mitsuhiro ;Fukuyama, TakahideRyu, IlhyongThe bromine-radical-mediated allylation reaction of aldehydes was studied. In the presence of V-65 as radical initiator, the reaction of aldehydes with allyl bromides gave beta,gamma-unsaturated ketones in good yields (13 examples, 45-84%). The reaction is triggered by hydrogen abstraction from the aldehyde by bromine radical to form an acyl radical, which undergoes an S(H)2'-type addition-elimination reaction with allyl bromides to give coupling products with liberation of bromine radical. Three-component coupling reactions comprising aldehydes, electron-deficient alkenes, and methallyl bromide also proceeded to give delta,epsilon-unsaturated ketones.Item type:Item, Reduced Junction Leakage by Hot Phosphorus Ion Implantation of NiGe-Contacted Germanium n(+)/p Shallow Junction(2017-09-01) ;Chen, Yi-Ju ;Tsui, Bing-Yue ;Chou, Hung-Ju ;Li, Ching-ILin, Ger-PinEffects of hot phosphorus (P) implantation on the NiGe-contacted Ge n(+)/p junction are studied in this work. At an adequately high ion-implantation temperature (150 degrees C), the P depth profiles of the hot-implanted samples are similar to that of the room-temperature implanted ones. Hot P implantation is demonstrated effectively in reducing ion implantation induced defect formation and suppressing nickel atoms diffusion. Therefore, hot P implantation is efficient in lowering junction leakage and excellent junction characteristics exhibiting similar to 1 x 10(6) J(ON)/J(OFF) ratio is achieved.
