Item type:Item, Differential gain and buildup dynamics of self-starting Kerr lens mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser without an internal aperture(1997-08-01) ;Juang, DG ;Chen, YC ;Hsu, SH ;Lin, KHHsieh, WFThe small-signal differential gain was calculated from the measured average cw and Kerr lens mode-locked (KLM) output powers over the least-misalignment-sensitive region of a completely soft-aperturing, self-starting KLM Ti:sapphire laser. The results indicate that the self-starting condition is reached with this laser operating near the center of the stable range. The simulated location of maximum differential gain and pulse buildup process show good agreement with the experimental results. Since a physical system tends to stay with high stability, the preferred resonator for Kerr-lens mode-locking (KLM) is determined by the relative stability between KLM and CW operations. With this criterion the preferable KLM regions agree with the previous experimental self-starting regions when the Ken medium is located around the center of the resonator. Various spatial and temporal effects are considered to derive simple quadratic equations of the pulse width for both standing- and traveling-wave cavities. By solving the quadratic equation, we obtain the relations between pulse width and other cavity parameters for a given system for optimal design of a Kerr lens mode-locked cavity and to generate the shortest laser pulses. Our theoretical results agree well with the experimental results, and the computation time of this analytic approach for cavity parameters is reduced drastically as compared with an iteratively numerical approach. We found that there are stationary modes that show an additional beam waist besides the well-known waist on the flat mirror end near 9 19 2 = 1/4, 3/4. When the specific modes of the three degeneracies propagate through a lens, they are capable of exhibiting multiple beam waists. The multibeam-waist mode possesses a small waist size without a ring structure in the near field on the flat mirror end; nevertheless, it has a far-field pattern with many concentric rings. The numerical results show good agreement with the experimental observations. Furthermore, by simultaneously considering the wavelike and the raylike character of the multibeam-waist mode, we found that it can be represented as a superposition of N consecutive round-trip electric fields of period-N solution in the degenerate empty cavity, where N = 2 for g(1)g(2) = 1/2 and N = 3 for g(1)g(2) 1/4, 3/4. The size dependent shift of exciton emission reveals quantum confinement effect as changing the band gap. Besides, it was also found the enhancement of RRS intensity and electron-phonon coupling diminishes with decreasing particle's diameter.Item type:Item, Nonlinear mirror mode-locked Nd : GdVO4 laser with splitting double pulses(2005) ;Lin, JH ;Yang, WH ;Hsieh, WF ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe report on passive mode-locking of a cw diode-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser using the nonlinear mirror technique. The nonlinear mirror is made by a KTP frequency doubling crystal and a dichroic mirror that partially transmits the fundamental frequency and totally reflects the second harmonic. In addition, the nanosecond splitting double-pulses are first time observed in the NLM locked picosecond laser.Item type:Item, Construction of a wavelength-tunable self-starting Kerr lens mode-locked Ti:sapphire(1996-04-01) ;Lai, JG ;Lin, KH ;Juang, DG ;Hsieh, WF交大名義發表We have successfully constructed a soft-aperturing, asymmetric cavity Kerr lens mode-locked (KLM) Ti:sapphire laser that is self-starting within 0.5 ms over 780-840 nm wavelength range without any additional starting devices or intracavity hard apertures. We believed that the soft-aperturing mechanism is essential in the self-starting KLM Ti:sapphire lasers and the round trip gain discrimination between CW and KLM modes of the Ti:sapphire laser is sufficient to support self-starting.
