This work explores the dissociation dynamics and angular distribution of the HF molecule interacting with intense half-cycle and few-cycle pulses, including the rotational degree of freedom. The dependences of the dissociation probability on both the pulse type and the pulse duration are discussed. Our results indicate that the angular distribution of the dissociation probability is highly asymmetric to the perpendicular direction of field polarization, and becomes more symmetric with an increase in the number of field cycles. The spatial distribution of the wave function demonstrates the feasibility of constructing a molecular wave packer by interacting with the half-cycle pulse.

A direct fine-patterning process using photosensitive gel film derived from PZT precursor solution has been used to fabricate the piezoelectric cantilever from lead acetate trihydrate, zirconium n-propoxide and titanium isopropoxide modified with onitrobenzyl alcohol (NBA). Two main heating schedules were used to investigate the effect of various NBA amounts on microstructure, surface morphologies, and electrical properties of PZT films. As NBA was added above 1 wt%, it shows detrimental effect on crystal phase, microstructure evolution and electrical properties of PZT films. With increasing NBA content, both pyrochlore phase and pore formation was promoted. However, prior to next coating, a pre-pyrolysis is required to reduce the pore formation and obtain good piezoelectric characteristics. The mechanical coupling k(31) measured for PZT micro-cantilever is about 0.26 which is comparable to those reported for bulk ceramics.

The surface vibrational spectroscopy of ethanol (C2H5OH, ethyl alcohol): water binary mixture, or the aqueous solution of ethanol, is investigated via sum frequency generation (SFG) in the OH region (3000 to 3900 cm(-1)). The bulk molar ratio of the ethanol is varied from x = 0.0024 to 0.20. Our concentration dependence results support the statement that the surface density of water molecules with a free dangling OH bond is about 25% in the air/water interface. It also indicates that the ethyl group of the surface ethanol molecules sticks out above the nominal surface, while the hydroxyl group alone is immersed in the mixture solution. And the surface layer is a mixed monolayer. We have demonstrated here that a LiNbO3 Crystal containing -OH can be sufficient for the SFG spectroscopy measurement in the -OH region regardless of its absorption dip.

After chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) processes, copper microcorrosion was found in a specific pattern, which consisted of two sides of small trench islands connected by a long underlayer metal line. The depth of the copper recess was strongly dependent on the length of the underlayer metal line as well as the size of the trench islands. This phenomenon was different from typical photocorrosion; it was suggested to be induced by the additional electrochemical potential from the connection of the trench islands. Auger analysis proves that higher copper oxidation rate occurred on the specific pattern compared to those without connection. In addition, the pattern-dependent microcorrosion was identified by blocking the connection of the trench islands. A proposed model was given to account for the enhanced copper corrosion from the specific patterns during CMP. (C) 2004 The Electrochemical Society.

A nonvolatile memory device embedded with Ge nanocrystal dots is fabricated by the thermal oxidation of Si0.8Ge0.2 combined with a rapid thermal annealing at 950degreesC in N-2 gas. The tunnel oxide in the nonvolatile memory is controlled to be 4.5 nm thick and embedded with 5.5 nm Ge nanocrystals. A low operating voltage, 5 V, is implemented and a significant threshold-voltage shift, 0.42 V, is observed. When the electrons are trapped in the Ge nanocrystals, the effect of Coulomb blockade prevents the injection and storage of more electrons and decreases the leakage current. Also, the retention characteristics are tested to be robust. (C) 2003 The Electrochemical Society.

The creation method of a weighted holographic grating in photopolymer film is discussed, It is based on interference of two beams passed through weighting masks. Due to weighing the grating's response has sidelobe level to be reduced.

In this paper, we report investigations on chemical analyses and optical measurements of our PQ doped PMMA photopolymer material. We have analyzed chemical compositions of four different samples: PQ doped PMMA solid and PQ dissolved MMA liquid samples, with light exposed and unexposed conditions, respectively. The investigations provide us a good understanding about the photochemical behaviors of the PQ and the MMA molecules during optical recording. Then, a mechanism for holographic recording is proposed. This result has been applied to develop photopolymers doped with different dye molecules. With changing of dye molecules, we have made three new PMMA-based photopolymers. Their holographic recording characteristics have been tested and discussed.

Bi12TiO20 (BTO) single crystals doped with high concentration of ruthenium are grown by the Top Seeded Solution Growth Method. Ruthenium addition in BTO crystals shifts the optical absorption to the near IR spectral region in comparison with non-doped one. Measurements on light-induced near infrared absorption and temporal behavior of the dark decay are performed. Holographic gratings at 790 nm and 825 nm are recorded and dynamics of photorefractive index grating build-up and readout process are investigated.
