Unlike the Magic Mirror in Snow White, waiting for users' active requests, what if an augmented mirror was like the Mirror of Erised, capable of serving users' implicit needs? We develop an augmented mirror system that reflects images of real-world objects by nature, collocates digitally rendered information with the reflections and learns the correlations among users, objects and augmented information. By exploring the design space, implementing an actual system, and conducting a preliminary study, we demonstrate that our system provides users needed information at the right time, thereby allowing them to make improved decisions and take appropriate actions.

The emerging development of information and communications technology (ICT) influences the crafts design for digital arts. In Taiwan, the organization of CRE@TAIWAN, Creative and Revolutionary Education Taiwan, encourages researchers in universities or colleges to use Smart Living Technology for building teaching materials and planning teaching courses on cultural creativity and design. To develop the handicrafts industry in Nantou County is important because of abundant raw materials used in producing crafts. The purpose of this work is to design three categories of crafts with ICT as intelligent crafts, including bamboo QR Code design for shops and stores, smart phone APPs design in pressed flower AR cards with augmented reality (AR) technology, and situational LED color control by smart phones to transform space ambience. These intelligent crafts bring "wellbeing conveyed by passionate crafts," and express full-hearted wishes from gift givers in the form of exquisite skills.

In many activities, such as martial arts, physical exercise, and physiotherapy, the users are asked to perform a sequence of body movements with highly accurate arm positions. Sometimes, the movements are too complicated for users to learn, even by imitating the action of the coach directly. This paper presents a fully immersive augmented reality (AR) system, which provides egocentric hints to guide the arm movement of the user via a video see-through head-mounted display (HMD). By using this system, the user can perform the exactitude of arm movement simply by moving his arms to follow and match the virtual arms, rendered from coach\'s movement of database, in the first-person view. To ensure the rendered virtual arms correctly aligned with the user\'s real shoulders, a calibration method is proposed to estimate the length of the user\'s arms and the positions of his head and shoulders in advance. In addition, we apply the system to Tai-Chi-Chuan practicing, our preliminary study has shown that the proposed egocentric hints can provide intuitive guidance for users to follow the arm movement of the coach with exactitude.

Wearable technologies have attracted considerable attention in mobile computing. This paper proposes a system for localization on wearable devices, such as the smart glasses. The existing approaches to localization, such as AoA, ToA, TDoA, GPS, and RF-based solutions, rely on auxiliary signals at set distances. This limitation constrains the availability of LBS when a mobile device is unable to receive the auxiliary signals. For example, GPS is not available in indoor environments. This paper proposes a system for "self-contained" localization, which refers to the capability of a device to determine its location without having to rely on auxiliary signals, and demonstrates the feasibility of using inertial measurement unit (IMU) and visual sensors in a smart phone to achieve this goal. Based on a concept called inertial sensor-assisted localization (ISAL), IMU sensors are triggered by user motions and visual cues are taken from existing objects. Using augmented reality (AR) techniques, objects captured by the smart phone camera are "tagged" manually or automatically by image processing tools. The angles of these objects relative to the user are then measured by IMU sensors. Based on these angles, we then develop an angulation algorithm to determine the location of the user.
