Item type:Item, IoT-Based Image Recognition System for Smart Home-Delivered Meal Services(2017-07-01) ;Tseng, Hsiao-Ting ;Hwang, Hsin-Ginn ;Hsu, Wei-Yen ;Chou, Pei-ChinChang, I-ChiuPopulation ageing is an important global issue. The Taiwanese government has used various Internet of Things (IoT) applications in the 10-year long-term care program 2.0. It is expected that the efficiency and effectiveness of long-term care services will be improved through IoT support. Home-delivered meal services for the elderly are important for home-based long-term care services. To ensure that the right meals are delivered to the right recipient at the right time, the runners need to take a picture of the meal recipient when the meal is delivered. This study uses the IoT-based image recognition system to design an integrated service to improve the management of image recognition. The core technology of this IoT-based image recognition system is statistical histogram-based k-means clustering for image segmentation. However, this method is time-consuming. Therefore, we proposed using the statistical histogram to obtain a probability density function of pixels of a figure and segmenting these with weighting for the same intensity. This aims to increase the computational performance and achieve the same results as k-means clustering. We combined histogram and k-means clustering in order to overcome the high computational cost for k-means clustering. The results indicate that the proposed method is significantly faster than k-means clustering by more than 10 times.Item type:Item, Preventing market collapse in auctions for perishable Internet of Things resources(2017-11-29) ;Safianowska, Maria B. ;Gdowski, Robert ;Huang, ChingYao ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsWe are entering the era of digital business moments where autonomous things will buy and sell services from each other in order to make people's life easier. They will also negotiate in order to achieve the best price for their services which will result in Internet of Things auctions. Such auctions will be combinatorial and recurrent. Recurrent auctions pose a problem of bidder drop which leads to market collapse. Moreover, in Internet of Things, bidders will employ different strategies according to their pattern of consuming resources. We describe two bidding strategies which may lead to market collapse or very low revenue: opportunistic and periodic bidding. We devise two algorithms: revenue maximizing auction and highest bid lock auction, analyze their performance under these two bidding strategies, and compare them to traditional combinatorial auction. We find out that the revenue maximizing auction prevents market collapse under opportunistic bidding while highest bid lock auction provides the highest revenue under both strategies.Item type:Item, The SDN Approach for the Aggregation/Disaggregation of Sensor Data(2018-07-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Wang, Shie-Yuan ;Huang, Ching-Chun ;Wu, Chia-Ming資訊工程學系In many Internet of Things (IoT) applications, large numbers of small sensor data are delivered in the network, which may cause heavy traffics. To reduce the number of messages delivered from the sensor devices to the IoT server, a promising approach is to aggregate several small IoT messages into a large packet before they are delivered through the network. When the packets arrive at the destination, they are disaggregated into the original IoT messages. In the existing solutions, packet aggregation/disaggregation is performed by software at the server, which results in long delays and low throughputs. To resolve the above issue, this paper utilizes the programmable Software Defined Networking (SDN) switch to program quick packet aggregation and disaggregation. Specifically, we consider the Programming Protocol-Independent Packet Processor (P4) technology. We design and develop novel P4 programs for aggregation and disaggregation in commercial P4 switches. Our study indicates that packet aggregation can be achieved in a P4 switch with its line rate (without extra packet processing cost). On the other hand, to disaggregate a packet that combines N IoT messages, the processing time is about the same as processing N individual IoT messages. Our implementation conducts IoT message aggregation at the highest bit rate (100 Gbps) that has not been found in the literature. We further propose to provide a small buffer in the P4 switch to significantly reduce the processing power for disaggregating a packet.Item type:Item, An Automated IoT Visualization BIM Platform for Decision Support in Facilities Management(2018-07-01) ;Chang, Kai-Ming ;Dzeng, Ren-Jye ;Wu, Yi-Ju ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringBuilding information modeling (BIM) is the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics (such as geometry, spatial relationship, and geographic information) of a facility to support decisions during its life cycle. BIM has been extended beyond 3D geometrical representations in recent years, and now includes time as a fourth dimension and cost as a fifth dimension, as well as such other applications as virtual reality and augmented reality. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been increasingly applied in various products (smart homes, wearables) to enhance work productivity, living comfort, and entertainment. However, research addressing the integration of these two technologies (BIM and IoT) is still very limited, and has focused exclusively on the automatic transmission of sensor information to BIM models. This paper describes an attempt to represent and visualize sensor data in BIM with multiple perspectives in order to support complex decisions requiring interdisciplinary information. The study uses a university campus as an example and includes several scenarios, such as an auditorium with a dispersed audience and energy-saving options for rooms with different functions (mechanical/electrical equipment, classrooms, and laboratory). This paper also discusses the design of a common platform allowing communication among sensors with different protocols (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), the use of Dynamo to accept sensor data as input and automatically redraw visualized information in BIM, and how visualization may help in making energy-saving management decisions.
