Item type:Item, Coupling-ratio controlled wavelength tunability of a power conversion efficiency improved L-band Erbium-doped fiber laser(2006-01-01) ;Lin, Gong-Ru ;Chang, Jun-Yuan ;Liao, Yu-Sheng ;Lu, Hai-Han光電工程學系A coupling-ratio controlled wavelength tunable L-band erbium-doped fiber laser with tuning range of 45nm (1567 1612 nm), quantum efficiency of 42%, power conversion efficiency of 37%, tuning resolution of 0.3 mn is reported. The wavelength-tuning is achieved by a tunable band-pass filter (TBPF) or by adjusting the tunable-ratio optical coupler (TROC) without TBPF because of the difference of intracavity loss. The output wavelength can be tunable in the full L-band with TBPF, from 1567 to 1612 nm, and the pulse-width is < 14.2 ps. Specially, during the wavelength-tunable process without TBPF, the modulation frequency of about 1 GHz remains unchanged and near-transform-limited pulses are generated by linear compression with 32.5 in single mode fiber (SMF) under 10% output coupling ratio.Item type:Item, A novel phase-noise-suppressed and delay-time-tunable mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser(2002-10-15) ;Lin, GR ;Lai, Y ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA phase-noise-suppressed and delay-time-tunable actively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser is demonstrated by using voltage-controlled and frequency-discriminated phase shifter as an inherent timing module. By changing the voltage from -3.35 to 3.6 V, the maximum tuning range of phase and delay-time of 500 MHz optical pulse-train from the laser can be up to 340degrees (similar to1.9pi) and 1.9 ns (nearly 1 period), respectively. Optimized responsivity and tuning deviation are 0.27 ps/mV and less than or equal to 4%. The single-sided-band phase the laser operated at feedback controlled mode is significantly reduced to -100 dBc/Hz (measured at frequency of 10 kHz offset from center), which is at least 10 dB smaller than that of the laser operated at free-running mode. The self-healing function is constructed by using a primary ring architecture incorporated with several ring sub-networks. To enhance the sensing signal when a breakpoint suddenly occurs in the network, we employ a fiber-ring laser-based sensor system. The network survivability of an 11-point FBG sensor is experimentally examined. The proposed fiber grating sensor system can increase the reliability of a sensing network. The network survivability and capacity for a multipoint sensor system ate enhanced by adding switches in a self-healing ring architecture. The fiber laser adopted in this system is a linear-cavity filter Bragg grating (FBG) laser leading to the signal-to-noise ratio. over 52 dB for the sensor network. The network survivability of a ten-point FBG sensor is experimentally examined. The experimental results show that the proposed system can facilitate reliable, sensing network for a large-scale and multipoint smart structure.Item type:Item, A tunable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber ring laser using a self-seeded Fabry-Perot laser diode(2003-05-01) ;Peng, PC ;Tseng, HY ;Chi, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA tunable dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber ring laser using a self-seeded Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) is proposed and demonstrated. By adding an FP-LD incorporated with a tunable bandpass filter within the ring cavity, the fiber laser can lase two wavelengths simultaneously because of the self-seeded mechanism. This dual-wavelength output exhibits a good performance having the optical side-mode suppression ratio over 31 dB. The wavelength-tuning range of this tunable dual-wavelength fiber laser can be up to 9 nm.Item type:Item, A hybrid star-ring architecture for fiber Bragg grating sensor system(2003-09-01) ;Peng, PC ;Tseng, HY ;Chi, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsIn this letter, we present a hybrid star-ring architecture for a highly reliable fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system and demonstrate its effectiveness. The main trunk of the proposed sensor network is star topology and the sensing branches comprise a series of concatenated ring subnets. The weakness in reliability of the star network is overcome by the ring subnets with a self-healing function based on the reconfigurable optical switches between each subnet. To enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the sensor system, we adopt a linear-cavity FBG laser scheme to construct our proposed hybrid star-ring architecture. Such a fiber-laser scheme results in the SNR over 48 dB for the sensor network. The network survivability of a ten-point FBG sensor is experimentally examined. It is shown that the proposed FBG sensor system can increase the reliability of a sensing network.Item type:Item, Intensity and wavelength-division multiplexing FBG sensor system using a tunable multiport fiber ring laser(2004-01-01) ;Peng, PC ;Lin, JH ;Tseng, HY ;Chi, S光電工程學系We propose an intensity and wavelength-division multiplexing (IWDM) fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system using a tunable multiport fiber ring laser. The different output powers of a multiport fiber laser are used to address the information reflected from the sensing FBGs, even if the Bragg wavelengths of the FBGs connected at different laser output ports are identical. We describe the operation principle and experimentally demonstrate a three-port fiber sensor. For the IWDM technique, our proposed fiber grating sensor system can enhance the sensing capacity, signal-to-noise ratio, and sensing resolution.Item type:Item, Long-distance FBG sensor system using a linear-cavity fiber Raman laser scheme(2004-02-01) ;Peng, PC ;Tseng, HY ;Chi, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe propose a novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system using a linear-cavity fiber laser scheme with a distributed Raman amplifier as a gain medium. The inhomogeneous broadening property of the distributed Raman amplifier is used for multiwavelength operation. The experiment shows that such a linear-cavity fiber Raman laser can provide a stable output with an optical signal-to-noise ratio over 50 dB even if the FBG is located at a 25-km remote sensing position. The feature of our proposed fiber laser can facilitate a long-distance or a large-scale fiber sensor system and can be easily extended for multipoint sensing applications.Item type:Item, Tunable dual-wavelength linear-cavity fiber laser by using an external injection-seeding scheme(2004-03-05) ;Peng, PC ;Chi, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsIn this paper, we propose and demonstrate a tunable dual-wavelength fiber laser by using an external injection-seeding scheme with a Fabry-Perot laser diode. By adding a tunable bandpass filter within the linear cavity, the wavelength-tunable fiber laser was easy to be tuned dynamically. This linear-cavity fiber laser output exhibited a good performance having the optical sidemode suppression ratio over 30 dB and the wavelength-tuning range up to 27 nm. Furthermore, this fiber laser generated pulses with pulsewidth between 53.2 and 80.4 ps at a repetition frequency of 908.39 MHz.
