Item type:Item, Electronic-based procedure for managing unbalanced bids(2004-05-01) ;Wang, WC ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringConstruction lump sum lowest bid procurement is one of the most prevalent methods of awarding construction contracts. For a lump sum bidding practice in Taiwan, after the lowest bidder is awarded a construction project contract, the contractual unit price for each cost item is taken as the product of the owner's estimated unit price and a discounting ratio equal to the total bid price divided by the owner's project cost estimate. This owner-based approach is inequitable because the bidder is denied the right to allocate the risks associated with the costs of performing the work. In U.S. practice, while the unit prices submitted by the bidder are usually considered as the contractual ones, unbalanced bids may occur. This work presents a bidder-based quantitative procedure, built on an electronic-based bidding process for effectively and efficiently supporting reviewing and adjusting the bidder's proposed unit prices for a lump sum procurement project. The advantages of this procedure include that the unit prices electronically obtained front the owner and all qualified bidders are included in analyses during unit-price evaluation, and that rules for unit-price adjustment along with maintaining the total contractual price are included. The novel procedure has been successfully applied to several construction projects in Taiwan and the results have been greatly appreciated by both governments and contractors.Item type:Item, Quantification of Cable Deformation with Time Domain Reflectometry-Implications to Landslide Monitoring(2009-01-01) ;Lin, Chih-Ping ;Tang, Shr-Hong ;Lin, Wen-Chin ;Chung, Chih-Chung交大名義發表Time domain reflectometry (TDR) technology has become a valuable tool for detecting displacements and locating shear planes in rock or soil slopes. It is based on transmitting an electromagnetic pulse into a coaxial cable grouted in rock or soil mass and watching for reflections of this transmission due to cable deformity induced by the ground deformation. Early detection of localized shear deformation in soft soils and quantifying the shear displacement using TDR remains a challenging work. The TDR response due to localized shear deformation is affected by cable resistance, soil-grout-cable interaction, and shear bandwidth. A comprehensive TDR wave propagation model considering cable resistance is introduced to model TDR response to cable deformity. Effects of the influencing factors on the relationship between the reflection spike and the shear displacement are investigated through laboratory tests and numerical simulations. The implications to enhancing TDR response and quantifying shear displacement are stressed. Practical suggestions are made, including procedure for correcting resistance effect, selection of cable and grout, and how to quantify shear displacement using TDR.Item type:Item, GENERALIZED NONASSOCIATIVE MULTISURFACE APPROACH FOR ANTIGRANULOCYTES MATERIALS(1991-01-01) ;PAN, YW ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringThe transitional yielding approach offers a unique and smooth definition for loading, unloading, and reloading; further, it need not define a conjugate point. A generalized transitional yielding approach, with any desired number of limit surfaces, is proposed. These limit surfaces represent various degrees of the hierarchical material memory due to stress history. A new method for modeling nonassociative soil behavior is also proposed; it has the advantage of using exactly the same function for the yield surface and the plastic potential surface. Model prediction and experimental data are compared to illustrate the validity of the proposed approach.Item type:Item, ANALYTIC SOLUTION FOR DYNAMIC LOADING ON HALF-SPACE MEDIUM(1991-07-01) ;LIOU, GS ;LEE, GC ;KETTER, RL ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringA systematic procedure for generating impedance matrices for foundations resting on an elastic half-space medium is presented. The prescribed harmonic loading due to the foundation is decomposed into an infinite Fourier series with respect to the azimuth. For each Fourier component an analytic solution is found. Then, provided that the interaction stresses due to excitation of the foundation can be assumed to be piecewise linear in the r-direction of the cylindrical coordinates, the impedance matrix of the foundation can be generated using the variational principle and the reciprocal theorem. A simple example of a rigid circular plate, rigidly attached to the half-space medium, and subjected to torsional, vertical, rocking, and horizontal exitation is used to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the procedure.Item type:Item, Boiler erection scheduling using product models and case-based reasoning(1997-09-01) ;Dzeng, RJ ;Tommelein, ID ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityContractors who repeatedly construct facilities designed by copying major parts from one project to the next find that previously developed schedules associated with those designs could be reused to schedule new work. To facilitate such reuse, project characteristics must be articulated and associated schedules described to include not only traditional, numerical scheduling data, but also scheduling constraints. In addition, knowledge about how to reuse schedules must be available. The CasePlan system, presented here, supports and augments the scheduling activity of people who reason about cases-each case describing the design and schedule of a completed project-to generate new project schedules. Specifically, CasePlan reuses annotated cases to automatically schedule the erection of power plant boilers. Because such boilers have a more-or-less standardized design, a generic boiler product model can serve as the basis for assessing similarities between designs. On this basis CasePlan selects schedules for reuse. A user can also interact with CasePlan to isolate fragments of case schedules and adapt them to better suit the variables of the new project at hand.
