Item type:Item, Compact Microstrip Bandpass Filters Using Miniaturized Slow-Wave Quarter-Wavelength Resonators(2010-01-01) ;Chang, Wei-Shin ;Liang, Cheng-Hsien ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proposes a novel lambda/4 microstrip slow wave resonator with interdigital capacitive fingers. The interdigital fingers provide a strong capacitive loading so as to miniaturize the resonator size. The resonant frequency is easily adjusted by varying the number of fingers and the spacing between fingers. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed structure, one four-pole Chebyshev and one four-pole generalized Chebyshev filter with 0.05 dB equal-ripple bandwidths of 7.5% and 5%, respectively, were designed and fabricated. An extra transmission zero can be close to the passband for high selectivity and stopband attenuation by using the proposed slow-wave resonator and the tapped input/output structure. Both filters are compact in size and exhibit good stopband rejection.Item type:Item, Compact Microstrip Bandpass Filters Using Miniaturized Quarter-Wavelength Resonators(2010-01-01) ;Liang, Cheng-Hsien ;Chang, Wei-Shin ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proposes a novel miniaturized lambda/4 microstrip resonator. The two shorted high-impedance lines not only possess the feasibility to be arranged but also provide the strong magnetic coupling between resonators easily. By applying the proposed resonator, the filter with the flexible bandwidth can be realized. Moreover, the spurious frequency can be shifted to the higher frequency by adjusting the structural parameters. The proposed lambda/4 resonator has a much smaller size compared to the conventional one. Two four-pole bandpass filters were designed and fabricated to demonstrate the practicality of the proposed resonator. Each filter occupies a small circuit area and has a good stopband response.Item type:Item, Microstrip realization of generalized Chebyshev filters with box-like coupling schemes(2007-01-01) ;Liao, Ching-Ku ;Chi, Pei-Ling ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper presents generalized Chebyshev microstrip filters with box-like coupling schemes. The box-like coupling schemes taken in this paper include a doublet, extended doublet, and fourth-order box section. The box-like portion of the coupling schemes is implemented by an E-shaped resonator. Synthesis and realization procedures are described in detail. The example filters show an excellent match to the theoretical responses.Item type:Item, Folded Finite-Ground-Width CPW Quarter-Wave Stepped Impedance Resonator Filters(2007) ;Chen, Chin-Hsuing ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proposes two new types of folded finite-ground-width CPW lambda/4 stepped impedance resonators (SIRs). The newly proposed CPW lambda/4 SIRs are much shorter than the conventional CPW lambda/4 SIR. Comparing to the multifold CPW lambda/4 UIR[1], the proposed resonators show much higher first spurious resonant frequency. Filters implemented with these newly proposed CPW lambda/4 SIRs depict not only a small size but also a high spurious passband frequency. Besides, similar to that of multifold CPW lambda/4 UIR filters, the proposed folded CPW lambda/4 SIR filters can be easily configured as a cascade quadruplet (CQ) or a cascade tri-section (CI) filter. Several filters are implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed CPW lambda/4 SIRs.Item type:Item, Microstrip parallel-coupled filters with cascade trisection and quadruplet responses(2008-09-01) ;Lu, Jhe-Ching ;Liao, Ching-Ku ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringMicrostrip parallel-coupled filters with generalized Chebyshev responses are presented. The basic structure of the proposed filter is a conventional parallel-coupled filter of which the physical dimensions can be easily obtained by the well-known analytical method. With the aid of the equivalent circuit corresponding to a conventional parallel-coupled filter, the relative insertion phase from source or load to each open end of resonators can be easily obtained by observing the two-port admittance matrix. Applying the cross coupling from source or load to a proper nonadjacent resonator, a trisection or a quadruplet coupling scheme can be realized with prescribed transmission zeros. More importantly, the proposed trisection can be designed to have a transmission zero on the lower or upper stopband by just adjusting the length of the cross-coupling strip. Using the proposed structure, the conventional time-consuming adjusting procedure to obtain initial physical dimensions of filters is no longer required. In this paper, a fourth-order parallel-coupled filter is used as the basic structure to demonstrate various combinations of transmission zeros. Simulated and measured results are well matched.Item type:Item, Fabrication-Tolerant Microstrip Quarter-Wave Stepped-Impedance Resonator Filter(2009-05-01) ;Liang, Cheng-Hsien ;Chen, Chin-Hsiung ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThe etching error causes serious frequency drift of a microstrip stepped-impedance resonator (SIR). This paper proposes a novel microstrip quarter-wave SIR structure, which is insensitive to fabrication tolerances. Inserting several ground strips in the low-impedance section of the resonator keeps the impedance ratio almost constant in spite of inaccurate fabrication. As an additional benefit, the resonator size would be miniaturized because the characteristic impedance of the microstrip line in the low-impedance section is mainly controlled by the signal strips and the inserted ground strips in a coplanar manner. The concepts and characteristics of this modified resonator structure are discussed in detail. The filters constructed by the conventional microstrip SIR were also designed and fabricated at the same frequency band to compare with the proposed ones. Measured results show that each proposed filter has compact size, wide stopband, and high tolerance to fabrication errors. Two four-pole cross-coupled filters were designed and fabricated to demonstrate the feasibility.
