Item type:Item, Recent progress of molecular organic electroluminescent materials and devices(2002-12-01) ;Hung, LS ;Chen, CH ;應用化學系 ;友訊交大聯合研發中心Department of Applied ChemistryElectroluminescent devices based on organic materials are of considerable interest owing to their attractive characteristics and potential applications to flat panel displays. After a brief overview of the device construction and operating principles, a review is presented on recent progress in organic electroluminescent materials and devices. Small molecular materials are described with emphasis on their material issues pertaining to charge transport, color, and luminance efficiencies. The chemical nature of electrode/organic interfaces and its impact on device performance are then discussed. Particular attention is paid to recent advances in interface engineering that is of paramount importance to modify the chemical and electronic structure of the interface. The topics in this report also include recent development on the enhancement of electron transport capability in organic materials by doping and the increase in luminance efficiency by utilizing electrophosphorescent materials. Of particular interest for the subject of this review are device reliability and its relationship with material characteristics and interface structures. Important issues relating to display fabrication and the status of display development are briefly addressed as well. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. By carefully tuning the thickness of ADN and optimizing the doping concentration of TBP, one of the highest efficiencies reported for the anthracene based blue emitter at 6.6 cd/A with a CIE of x = 0.13; y = 0.21 is achieved.Item type:Item, Synthesis of t-butylated diphenylanthracene derivatives as blue host materials for OLED applications(2003-07-21) ;Balaganesan, B ;Shen, WJ ;Chen, CH ;應用化學系資訊工程學系This paper describes the cost-effective synthesis and the photoluminescence of diphenylanthracene derivatives, which are found to be potential blue host materials for organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology. By varying the hole injection materials, thickness of hole-transport layer and by evaporation with rubrene as co-dopant, efficiencies of 3.24 cd/A and near saturated CIE color coordinates of x = 0.643, y = 0.354 was achieved without needing additional doping of hole-trap with NPB. From experiments with film thickness variation, it is concluded that the improved electrofluorescent (EL) performance and color saturation are due to the synergistic effects of microcavity, device structural optimization as well as optimal doping of DCJTB with rubrene. We believe this luminance efficiency for red is by far one of the best ever reported for dye-doped electrofluorescent OLEDs. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. The architecture of the device used in the experiment is Indium-Tin-Oxid (ITO)/CuPc/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/Mg:Alq(3)/WO3/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/LiF/Al. We found the efficiency of the two-unit devices can be controllable by the thickness Of WO3. The two-unit devices with 1-nm-thick WO3 produces the luminance efficiency of 49.2 cd/A at 20 mA/cm(2), which is around four times that of the controlled single-unit device (ITO/CuPc/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/LiF/Al). Compared with reported research data, the "amplification effect" discovered in our device is a rather unexpected result. The external quantum efficiency of 12.6%, with near-saturated Commission Internationale d'Eclairage coordinates (CIEx = 0.27, CIEy = 0.68), is one of the best ever reported for a fluorescent dye-doped OLED. We also demonstrate that the electron injection layer of Mg:Alq(3) is a necessary component for the enhancement of EL efficiency. These results may prove to be an effective method to enhance the efficiency as well as the lifetime of current OLEDs.
