Item type:Item, Apply Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition to Discover Time Variants of Metro Station Passenger Flow(2017-01-01) ;Chen, Mu-Chen ;Chen, Long-Sheng ;Wei, Yu ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementThis paper applies both Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) to extract the EMD and EEMD components from a data set of passenger flows of a station in the metro system, and illustrates the time variants of short-term passenger flow for this data sets. The results indicate that the extracted meaningful EEMD components reveal a more unique pattern than the extracted meaningful EMD components. The patterns of these EEMD components of passenger flow in the metro system are more specific and can be explained more easily for management purposes.Item type:Item, Applying Neural Networks to Detect the Failures of Turbines in Thermal Power Facilities(2009) ;Chen, Kai-Ying ;Chen, Long-Sheng ;Chen, Mu-Chen ;Lee, Chia-Lung運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所Due to the growing demand on electricity, how to improve the efficiency of equipment has become one of the critical issues in a thermal power plant. Related works reported that efficiency and availability depend heavily on high reliability and maintainability. Recently, the concept of e-maintenance has been introduced to reduce the cost of maintenance. In e-maintenance systems, the intelligent fault detection system plays a crucial role for identifying failures. Machine learning techniques are at the core of such intelligent systems and can greatly influence their performance. Applying these techniques to fault detection makes it possible to shorten shutdown maintenance and thus increase the capacity utilization rates of equipment. Therefore, this work applies Back-propagation Neural Networks (BPN) to analyze the failures of turbines in thermal power facilities. Finally, a real case from a thermal power plant is provided to evaluate the effectiveness.Item type:Item, Integrating independent component analysis and support vector machine for multivariate process monitoring(2010-08-01) ;Hsu, Chun-Chin ;Chen, Mu-Chen ;Chen, Long-Sheng ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementThis study aims to develop an intelligent algorithm by integrating the independent component analysis (ICA) and support vector machine (SVM) for monitoring multivariate processes. For developing a successful SVM-based fault detector, the first step is feature extraction. In real industrial processes, process variables are rarely Gaussian distributed. Thus, this study proposes the application of ICA to extract the hidden information of a non-Gaussian process before conducting SVM. The proposed fault detector will be implemented via two simulated processes and a case study of the Tennessee Eastman process. Results demonstrate that the proposed method possesses superior fault detection when compared to conventional monitoring methods, including PCA, ICA, modified ICA, ICA-PCA and PCA-SVM. When learning from imbalanced data in which most examples are labeled as one class and only few belong to another class, traditional data mining approaches do not have a good ability to predict the crucial minority instances. Unfortunately, many real world data sets like health examination, inspection, credit fraud detection, spam identification and text mining all are faced with this situation. In this study, we present a novel model called the "Information Granulation Based Data Mining Approach" to tackle this problem. The proposed methodology, which imitates the human ability to process information, acquires knowledge from Information Granules rather then from numerical data. This method also introduces a Latent Semantic Indexing based feature extraction tool by using Singular Value Decomposition, to dramatically reduce the data dimensions. In addition, several data sets from the UCI Machine Learning Repository are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Experimental results show that our method can significantly increase the ability of classifying imbalanced data. (c) 2008 Elsevier Inc. Finally, a real case from a thermal power plant is provided to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed SVM based model. Experimental results show that SVM outperforms linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and back-propagation neural networks (BPN) in classification performance. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. These systems learn about user preferences over time and automatically suggest products that fit the learned model of user preferences. In tradition, recommendations are provided to customers based on purchase probability and customers' preferences, without considering the profitability factor for sellers. This work presents a new profitability-based recommender system, HPRS (Hybrid Perspective Recommender System), which attempts to integrate the profitability factor into the traditional recommender systems. Comparisons between our proposed system and traditional system which only considers the purchase probability clarify the advantages of our system. The experimental results show that the proposed HPRS can increase profit from cross-selling without compromising recommendation accuracy.Item type:Item, Developing recommender systems with the consideration of product profitability for sellers(2008-02-15) ;Chen, Long-Sheng ;Hsu, Fei-Hao ;Chen, Mu-Chen ;Hsu, Yuan-Chia運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所In electronic commerce web sites, recommender systems are popularly being employed to help customers in selecting suitable products to meet their personal needs. These systems learn about user preferences over time and automatically suggest products that fit the learned model of user preferences. Traditionally, recommendations are provided to customers depending on purchase probability and customers' preferences, without considering the profitability factor for sellers. This study attempts to integrate the profitability factor into the traditional recommender systems. Based on this consideration, we propose two profitability-based recommender systems called CPPRS (Convenience plus Profitability Perspective Recommender System) and HPRS (Hybrid Perspective Recommender System). Moreover, comparisons between our proposed systems (considering both purchase probability and profitability) and traditional systems (emphasizing an individual's preference) are made to clarify the advantages and disadvantages of these systems in terms of recommendation accuracy and/or profit from cross-selling. The experimental results show that the proposed HPRS can increase profit from cross-selling without losing recommendation accuracy. (c) 2007 Elsevier Inc. Many Internet users rely heavily on them to express their emotions and personal comments on whatever topics interest them. Nowadays, blogs have become the popular media and could be viewed as new marketing channels. Depending on the blog search engine, Technorati, we tracked about 94 million blogs in August 2007. It also reported that a whole new blog is created every 7.4 seconds and 275,000 blogs are updated daily. These figures can be used to illustrate the reason why more and more companies attempt to discover useful knowledge from this vast number of blogs for business purposes. Therefore, blog mining could be a new trend of web mining. The major objective of this study is to present a structure that includes unsupervised (self-organizing map) and supervised learning methods (back-propagation neural networks, decision tree, and support vector machines) for extracting knowledge from blogs, namely, a blog mining (BM) model. Moreover, a real case regarding VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone products is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.Item type:Item, A novel process monitoring approach with dynamic independent component analysis(2010-03-01) ;Hsu, Chun-Chin ;Chen, Mu-Chen ;Chen, Long-Sheng ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementA novel process monitoring scheme is proposed to compensate for shortcomings in the conventional independent component analysis (ICA) based monitoring method. The primary idea is first to augment the observed data matrix in order to take the process dynamic into consideration. An outlier rejection rule is then proposed to screen out outliers, in order to better describe the majority of the data. Finally, a rectangular measure is used as a monitoring statistic. The proposed approach is investigated via three cases: a simulation example, the Tennessee Eastman process and a real industrial case. Results indicate that the proposed method is more efficient as compared to alternate methods. Crown Copyright (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
