Item type:Item, Utilizing self-injection Rayleigh backscattering feedback for channel-selected erbium laser with single-longitudinal-mode output(2020-07-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;You, Wei-Yao ;Chen, Jhao-Ren ;Chow, Chi-WaiLin, Wen-PiaoTo achieve the target of single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) operation in erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser, a self-injected Rayleigh backscattering (RBS) feedback schematic is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Based on the proposed RBS effect, the multi-longitudinal-mode (MLM) noises of the RBS EDF laser can be suppressed fully. Here, the output powers of -7.5 to -5.1 dBm are detected over the tuning bandwidth of 1523.0 to 1563.0 nm. Moreover, the optical signal to noise ratios (OSNRs) of 30.9 and 33.1 dB is also attained. In this study, the SLM oscillation and output instability of the EDF laser are also analyzed and discussed.Item type:Item, 62nm CW wavelength-selectable erbium-doped fiber compound-ring laser with stable single-mode output(2019-12-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Chang, Yao-Jen ;Lin, Wen-Piao ;Xie, Yue-RuLuo, Chien-MingIn this demonstration, an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) based laser with stable, wide and wavelength-selectable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) performances is designed and demonstrated. Here, to achieve SLM oscillation, a compound-ring scheme is constructed in the EDF laser cavity serving as a mode-restriction-filter for densely side-mode suppression. Moreover, the continuous-wave tunability can be scaled from 1520.0 to 1582.0 nm by using the proposed compound-ring scheme and commercial C-band EDF amplifier. In the measurement, the output stability and 3 dB Lorentzian linewidth of each lasing wavelength in the proposed EDF compound-ring laser have also been discussed.Item type:Item, Reliability of stable fiber Bragg grating sensor system for monitoring temperature and strain individually(2019-10-01) ;Chang, Yao-Jen ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;光電工程學系光電工程研究所In the investigation, the fiber Bragg grating-based sensor system is proposed and demonstrated to monitor temperature and strain individually. In order to obtain a stable and accurate sensing signal, an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser scheme with a 2 m long unpumped EDF as the saturable absorber is also proposed. Hence, the observed stabilization of output power and sensing wavelength can be less than 0.1 dB and 0.02 nm, and 0.3 dB and 0.02 nm in the sensor system, respectively, in the back-to-back state and 25 km fiber link. Hence, this sensor system can improve the output stability of the sensing signal. In addition, the temperature- and strain-induced wavelength shifts can be operated in the range of 20 degrees C-70 degrees C and 0-37 500 mu epsilon, respectively.Item type:Item, Silicon-Micro-Ring Resonator-Based Erbium Fiber Laser With Single-Longitudinal-Mode Oscillation(2018-06-01) ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Cheng, Hao-Yun ;Chang, Yuan-Chia ;Chow, Chi-WaiChen, Jing-HengIn this paper, we propose and experimentally illustrate a wavelength-switchable erbium-doped fiber (EDF) dual-ring (DR) laser with stable single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) oscillation. In the experiment, a silicon-micro-ring-resonator (SiMRR) is applied in the proposed DR cavity for tuning different output wavelengths, when the birefringence loss is adjusted correctly. To compress the densely multilongitudinal-mode oscillations, the DR scheme together with a 2-m unpumped EDF-based saturable absorber is acted as the mode filter. The DR also can produce self-injection loop for an SLM operation. The wavelength tunability is between 1532.61 to 1557.98 nm and the measured 3-dB output linewidth is similar to 22.5 kHz. Moreover, the output stabilizations of the proposed SiMRR-based EDF DR laser are also analyzed and discussed.Item type:Item, Compact 84 GHz passive mode-locked fiber laser using dual-fiber coupled fused-quartz microresonator(2017-10-01) ;Liu, Tze-An ;Hsu, Yung ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Chuang, Yi-ChenTing, Wei-JoWe propose and demonstrate a compact and portable-size 84-GHz passive mode-locked fiber laser, in which a dual-fiber coupled fused-quartz microresonator is employed as the intracavity optical comb filter as well as the optical nonlinear material for optical frequency comb generation. About eight coherent optical tones can be generated in the proposed fiber laser. The 20-dB bandwidth is larger than 588 GHz. The full-width halfmaximum pulse-width of the proposed laser is 2.5 ps. We also demonstrate the feasibility of using the proposed passive mode-locked fiber laser to carry a 5-Gbit/s on-off-keying signal and transmit over 20-km standard single mode fiber. A 7% forward error correction requirement can be achieved, showing the proposed fiber laser can be a potential candidate for fiber-wireless applications.
