Item type:Item, High-Efficiency Large-Bandgap Material for Polymer Solar Cells(2015-01-01) ;Wei, Hedi ;Chao, Yi-Hsiang ;Kang, Chong ;Li, CuihongLu, HengHigh-molecular-weight conjugated polymer HD-PDFC-DTBT with N-(2-hexyldecyl)-3,6-difluorocarbazole as the donor unit, 5,6-bis(octyloxy)benzothiadiazole as the acceptor unit, and thiophene as the spacer is synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation. HD-PDFC-DTBT shows a large bandgap of 1.96 eV and a high hole mobility of 0.16 cm(2) V-1 s(-1). HD-PDFC-DTBT:PC71BM-based inverted polymer solar cells (PSCs) give a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.39% with a V-oc of 0.93 V, a J(sc) of 14.11 mA cm(-2), and an FF of 0.56.Item type:Item, A High-Mobility Low-Bandgap Copolymer for Efficient Solar Cells(2010-12-15) ;Ding, Ping ;Chu, Cheng-Che ;Liu, Bo ;Peng, BoZou, YingpingA new high-mobility low-bandgap polymer, PBDT-DODTBT, based on benzodithiophene and 5,6-bis(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl) benzothiadiazole has been synthesized through a standard Stille coupling reaction. The polymer is soluble in common organic solvents, such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and chlorobenzene and has excellent film forming properties. Preliminary studies of the copolymer showed the charge mobility as high as 7.15 x 10(-3) cm(2).V(-1). s(-1) from SCLC measurement. Initial photovoltaic cells based on the composite structure of ITO/PEDOT: PSS/PBDT-DODTBT: (alpha)PC(71)BM (1:2)/Ca/Al showed an open-circuit voltage of 0.76 V, a power conversion efficiency of 4.02%, and a short-circuit current of 8.96mA.cm(-2).Item type:Item, Synthesis of New Blue Anthracene-based Conjugated Polymers and Their Applications in Polymer Light-Emitting Diodes(2011-06-01) ;Shih, Hung-Min ;Lin, Cheng-Jui ;Tseng, Shin-Rong ;Lin, Chih-HungHsu, Chain-ShuA series of anthracene-based conjugated copolymers containing 9,10-bis(6-bromonaphthalen-2- yl)-2-tert-butylanthracene (BNA) and 2,7-diphenyl substituted fluorene (DPPF) moieties are prepared via a palladium-catalyzed Suzuki polymerization. All of the synthesized polymers emit blue light at around 450nm and show good thermal and color stability. Their electro-luminescence spectra remain unchanged at high driving voltage. The double-layer polymer light-emitting diode (PLED) fabricated with ITO/PEDOT: PSS/DPPFBNA3/CsF/Al, produces a maximum brightness of 1 650 cd.m(-2) and has a luminance efficiency of 0.39 cd.A(-1). The ITO/PEDOT: PSS/TFB/DPPFBNA3/CsF/Al multilayer PLED, incorporating a TFB layer to facilitate hole transportation, produces a maximum brightness of 5 371 cd.m(-2) and a luminance efficiency of 1.18 cd.A(-1)Item type:Item, Influences of the Non-Covalent Interaction Strength on Reaching High Solid-State Order and Device Performance of a Low Bandgap Polymer with Axisymmetrical Structural Units(2013-05-07) ;Jheng, Jyun-Fong ;Lai, Yu-Ying ;Wu, Jhong-Sian ;Chao, Yi-HsiangWang, Chien-LungA high organic field-effect transistor mobility (0.29 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1)) and bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cell performance (PCE of 6.82%) have been achieved in a low bandgap alternating copolymer consisting of axisymmetrical structural units, 5,6-difluorobenzo-2,1,3-thiadiazole. Introducing the fluorine substituents enhanced intermolecular interaction and improved the solid-state order, which consequently resulted in the highest device performances among the 2,1,3-thiadiazole-quarterthiophene based alternating copolymers.Item type:Item, Synthesis and Electroluminescence Properties of White-Light Single Polyfluorenes with High-Molecular Weight by Click Reaction(2011-08-01) ;Lo, Chih-Nan ;Hsu, Chain-Shu ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryWe reported a new way to synthesize single-chain white light-emitting polyfluorene (WPF) with an increased molecular weight using azide-alkyne click reaction. Four basic polymers with specific end-capping, which exhibited high-glass transition temperatures (T(g) > 100 degrees C) and excellent thermal stability, were used as foundations of the WPF's synthesis; a blue-light polymer (PFB2) end-capped with azide groups can easily react with acetylene end-capped polymers (PFB1, PFG1, and PFR1, which are emitting blue-, green- and red-light, respectively) to form triazole-ring linkages in polar solvents such as N,N-dimethylforamide/toluene co-solvent at moderate temperature of 100 degrees C, even without metal-catalyst. Several WPFs that consist of these four basic polymers in certain ratios were derived, and the polymer light-emitting diode device based on the high-molecular weight WPF was achieved and demonstrated a maximum brightness of 7551 cd/m(2) (at 12.5 V) and a maximum yield of 5.5 cd/A with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinates of (0.30, 0.33) using fine-tuned WPF5 as emitting material. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 49: 3355-3365, 2011Item type:Item, Synthesis of a New Ladder-Type Benzodi(cyclopentadithiophene) Arene with Forced Planarization Leading to an Enhanced Efficiency of Organic Photovoltaics(2012-10-23) ;Chen, Yung-Lung ;Chang, Chih-Yu ;Cheng, Yen-Ju ;Hsu, Chain-Shu應用化學系We have developed a new heptacyclic benzodi(cyclopentadithiophene) (BDCPDT) unit, where 3,7-positions of the central benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophenes (BDT) subunit are covalently rigidified with 3-positons of the two external thiophenes by two carbon bridges, forming two external CPDT rings that share two thiophene rings with the central BDT core. The distannyl-BDCPDT building block was copolymerized with 1,3-dibromo-thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) by Stille polymerization to afford a new alternating donor-acceptor copolymer PBDCPDT-TPD. The implementation of forced planarization greatly suppresses the interannular twisting to extend the effective conjugated length and preserve the interactions between the donor and acceptor segments. The device using the PBDCPDT-TPD/PC71BM (1:3 in wt%) blend processed with dimethyl sulfoxide as an additive delivered a marked PCE of 6.6% which represents a significant enhancement compared to the device using the corresponding nonfused polymer analogue with a PCE of 0.2%.Item type:Item, Porphyrin-diindenothieno[2,3-b]thiophene alternating copolymerua blue-light harvester in ternary-blend polymer solar cells(2012-12-15) ;Wu, Yu-Chun ;Chao, Yi-Hsiang ;Wang, Chien-Lung ;Wu, Chun-TaHsu, Chain-ShuPorphyrin, despite chosen by Nature as light harvesting units, hasn't revealed its full potentials as a structural unit in porphyrin-incorporated polymers (PPors). A novel PPor was synthesized to investigate the origins of the low performances of PPor-based polymer solar cells (PSCs). The polymer features broad absorption in the blue-light region, because the diindenothieno[2,3-b]thiophene (DITT) unit extended the conjugation in the polymer backbone. PPor-DITT/PC71BM based PSCs have a high Voc (0.79 V). Their low Jsc and fill factor (FF) were attributed to the un-optimized morphology, as indicated by the photoluminescence quenching and atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments. Using PPor-DITT as a blue-light harvesting dopant in an amorphous host leverage the strong 400550 nm absorption of PPor-DITT and circumvent the difficulties in reaching optimized morphology in the PPor/PCBM thin films. An addition of 2 wt % of PPor-DITT in ternary-blend PSCs resulted in a 10 % increase of external quantum efficiency (EQE) in the blue-light region. However, in a crystalline host, the dopant decreased the crystallinity of the host and led to large drops in FF and power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). The study provides an alternative route and expands the application of PPors in PSCs as a blue-light harvester in ternary-blend PSCs using amorphous polymers as host. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012Item type:Item, Electroluminescence from a conjugated polymer grafted with CdSe/ZnS: High brightness and improved efficiency(2006-09-15) ;Chen, Kuei-Bai ;Chen, Ming-Hwey ;Yang, Sheng-Hsiung ;Hsieh, Chao-HsiangHsu, Chain-ShuA new series of sulfide-substituted poly(1,4-phenylene vinylene) derivatives (S1PPV-S3PPV) with different composition ratios were successfully synthesized, via the Gilch route. The CdSe/ZnS were grafted to the sulfur atoms by ligand exchange reaction. The grafted CdSe/ZnS contents were determined from TGA analysis to be from 4.6 to 37.8%. A new peak at 1151 cm(-1) formed in FT-IR after ligand exchange, which is attributed to the force formation between sulfur and CdSe. The GPC results show that the molecular weights of final polymers became higher after ligand exchange. Thin films of obtained polymers emitted bright green and yellow light with the max emission peak located from 546 to 556 nm. Double-layer LEDs with an ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca/Al configuration were fabricated to evaluate the potential use of these polymers. The turn-on voltages of the devices were about 4-5 V As the CdSe/ZnS content increased in grafted polymers, the device performance was significantly enhanced as compared to pristine polymers. In the case of S3PPV, the double-layer device showed a maximum luminance of 6073 cd/m(2) with a current yield of 0.82 cd/A. The maximum luminance and current yield was enhanced to 13,390 cd/m(2) and 2.25 cd/A by grafting CdSe/ZnS onto polymers. (c) 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Item type:Item, Highly substituted poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) derivatives having bulky phenyl and fluorenyl pendant groups: Synthesis, characterization, and electro-optical properties(2006-12-01) ;Yang, Sheng-Hsiung ;Li, Hsing-Chuan ;Chen, Chien-Kai ;Hsu, Chain-Shu應用化學系Two series of poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (DP-PPV) derivatives containing multiple bulky substituents were synthesized. In the first series, two different groups were incorporated on C-5,6 positions of the phenylene moiety to increase steric hindrance and to obtain blue-shifted emissions. In the second series, bulky fluorenyl groups with two hexyl chains on the C-9 position were introduced on two phenyl pendants to increase the solubility as well as steric hindrance to prevent close packing of the main chain. Polymers with high molecular weights and fine-tuned electro-optical properties were obtained by controlling the feed ratio of different monomers during polymerization. The maximum photoluminescent emissions of the thin films are located between 384 and 541 nm. Cyclic voltammetric analysis reveals that the band gaps of these light-emitting materials are in the range from 2.4 to 3.3 eV A double-layer EL device with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT/P4/Ca/Al emitted pure green light with CIE ' 1931 at (0.24, 0.5). Using copolymer P6 as the emissive layer, the maximum luminescence and current efficiency were both improved when compared with the homopolymer P4. (c) 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Item type:Item, Svnthesis and ODW-electrical prperties of dendron-containing poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) derivatives(2007-08-01) ;Yang, Sheng-Hsiung ;Chen, Shiang-Ying ;Wu, Yu-Chun ;Hsu, Chain-Shu應用化學系A new series of poly(2,3-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene) derivatives containing dendritic side groups were synthesized. Different generations of dendrons were integrated on the pendant phenyl ring to investigate their effect on optical and electrical properties of final polymers. Homopolymers can not be obtained via the Gilch polymerization because of sterically bulky dendrons. By controlling the feed ratio of different monomers during polymerization, dendron-containing copolymers with high molecular weights were obtained. The UV-vis absorption and photoluminescent spectra of the thin films are pretty close; however, quantum efficiency is significantly enhanced with increasing the generation of dendrons. The electrochemical analysis reveals that hole-injection is also improved by increasing dendritic generation. Double-layer light-emitting devices with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al were fabricated. High generation dendrons bring benefit of improved device performance.
