Item type:Item, Poly(acetoxystyrene-co-isobutylstyryl POSS) nanocomposites: Characterization and molecular interaction(2002) ;Xu, HY ;Kuo, SW ;Huang, CF ;Chang, FC應用化學系The poly (acetoxy styrene-co-isobutyl styryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes)s (PAS-POSS) were synthesized by free radical polymerization and characterized by FTIR, high resolution NMR, FTIR, GPC, and DSC. The results show that the POSS content can be controlled by varying the POSS feed ratios. The interactions between organic components and inorganic POSS core, and the effects of inorganic POSS core on the properties of the resulting hybrids were investigated by high resolution solid state C-13 NMR, Si-29 NMR and FTIR spectra. The results provide detailed understandings of the effects of POSS moiety on properties of hybrid polymers.Item type:Item, Characterization of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone-co-isobutylstyryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) nanocomposites(2004-02-15) ;Xu, HY ;Kuo, SW ;Huang, CF ;Chang, FC應用化學系Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone-co-isobutyl styryl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane)s (PVP-POSS) were synthesized by one-step polymerization and characterized 13 using FTIR, high-resolution H-1-NMR, solid-state C-13-NMR, Si-29-NMR, GPC, and DSC. The POSS content can be controlled by varying the POSS feed ratio. The T-g of the PVP-FOSS hybrid is influenced by three main factors: (1) a diluent role of the POSS in reducing the self-association of the PVP; (2) a strong interaction between the POSS siloxane and the PVP carbonyl, and (3) physical aggregation of nanosized POSS. At a relatively low FOSS content, the role as diluent dominates, resulting in a decrease in T-g. At a relatively high POSS content, the last two factors dominate and result in T-g increase of the PVP-POSS hybrid. (C) 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Item type:Item, Thermal and surface properties of phenolic nanocomposites containing octaphenol polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(2006-04-03) ;Lin, HC ;Kuo, SW ;Huang, CF ;Chang, FC應用化學系We have synthesized a new polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) containing eight phenol functional groups and copolymerized it with phenol and formaldehyde to forrn novolac-type phenolic/POSS nanocomposites exhibiting high thermal stabilities and low surface energies. Our DSC results indicate that the glass transition temperature of these nanocomposites increased initially upon increasing their POSS content, but then decreased at POSS content above 10 wt.-%, presumably because of the formation of relatively low molecular weight species and POSS aggregation as evidenced from MALDI-TOF mass analyses. Our TGA analyses indicated that the 5-wt.-%-mass-loss temperatures (T-d) increased significantly upon increasing the POSS content because the incorporation of the POSS led to the formation of an inorganic protection layer on the nanocomposite's surface. XPS and contact angle data provided positive evidence to back LIP this hypothesis. In addition, contact angle measurements indicated a significant enhancement in surface hydrophobicity after increasing the POSS content.
