Item type:Item, Effect of Washing Solvents on the Properties of Air-Synthesized Perovskite CsPbBr3 Quantum Dots for Quantum Dot-Based Light-Emitting Devices(2020-01-01) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Tien, Ching-Ho ;Tseng, Po-Wei ;Tseng, Zong-LiangHuang, Wei-LunIn order to improve the stability and cost of perovskite CsPbBr3 and establish a preparation process for quantum dot materials with excellent luminescence properties, CsPbBr3 quantum dots were synthesized by the hot injection method and the ice bath method in air ambient. Then, a proprietary purification system was used to improve the properties of the quantum dots and prepare high-quality perovskite quantum dot films. Optimal material and light characteristics were exhibited with ethyl acetate:hexane as the purification solvent. In the solution form, the photoluminescence wavelength could be maintained at 508 nm with almost no shift compared with other conditions, and the quantum yield could reach 99%; however, superior performance was obtained in the thin-film form, which exhibited little to no shift in the photoluminescence wavelength and, surprisingly, achieved a quantum yield of 91.6% with a narrow PL emission with a full width at half-maximum of 28 nm. In addition, exceptional thin-film uniformity was observed from scanning electron microscopy image analyses. The CsPbBr3 quantum dot light-emitting diode purified with ethyl acetate:hexane demonstrated an open-circuit voltage of 4 V, a maximum luminous brightness of 488 cd m(-2), and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.14%.Item type:Item, Hybrid Composites of Quantum Dots, Monolayer WSe2, and Ag Nanodisks for White Light-Emitting Diodes(2020-07-24) ;Chang, Chiao-Yun ;Yu, Cheng-Li ;Lin, Chen-An ;Lin, Hsiang-TingLee, Andrew BoyiWe investigated hybrid zero-dimensional core-shell CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD)/two-dimensional monolayer WSe2 semiconductors with an Ag nanodisk (ND) for manipulating plasmonic-enhanced photoluminescence (PL) and color conversion efficiency. The absorption spectrum of the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effectively overlaps with that of QDs or monolayer WSe2 to considerably enhance PL. The broad absorption spectrum of the LSPR simultaneously overlapped with the emission spectrum of QDs and the absorption spectrum of excitons in WSe2 to enhance the color conversion efficiency. The highest efficiency of color conversion from QDs to WSe2 with Ag ND was 53%. In the future, hybrid QD/transition metal dichalcogenide light emitters could be further integrated with GaN-based white light-emitting diodes to manipulate the color temperature and expand the color gamut to develop a miniature white light-emitting diode.Item type:Item, Advances in Quantum-Dot-Based Displays(2020-07-01) ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Singh, Konthoujam James ;Liu, An-Chen ;Lin, Chien-ChungChen, ZhongIn terms of their use in displays, quantum dots (QDs) exhibit several advantages, including high illumination efficiency and color rendering, low-cost, and capacity for mass production. Furthermore, they are environmentally friendly. Excellent luminescence and charge transport properties of QDs led to their application in QD-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which have attracted considerable attention in display and solid-state lighting applications. In this review, we discuss the applications of QDs which are used on color conversion filter that exhibit high efficiency in white LEDs, full-color micro-LED devices, and liquid-type structure devices, among others. Furthermore, we discuss different QD printing processes and coating methods to achieve the full-color micro-LED. With the rise in popularity of wearable and see-through red, green, and blue (RGB) full-color displays, the flexible substrate is considered as a good potential candidate. The anisotropic conductive film method provides a small controllable linewidth of electrically conductive particles. Finally, we discuss the advanced application for flexible full-color and highly efficient QD micro-LEDs. The general conclusion of this study also involves the demand for a more straightforward QD deposition technique, whose breakthrough is expected.Item type:Item, Highly Efficient and Stable White Light-Emitting Diodes Using Perovskite Quantum Dot Paper(1970-01-01) ;Kong, Chieh-Yu ;Lin, Chun-Ho ;Lin, Chih-Hao ;Li, Ting-YouChen, Sung-Wen HuangPerovskite quantum dots (PQDs) are a competitive candidate for next-generation display technologies as a result of their superior photoluminescence, narrow emission, high quantum yield, and color tunability. However, due to poor thermal resistance and instability under high energy radiation, most PQD-based white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) show only modest luminous efficiency of approximate to 50 lm W-1 and a short lifetime of <100 h. In this study, by incorporating cellulose nanocrystals, a new type of QD film is fabricated: CH3NH3PbBr3 PQD paper that features 91% optical absorption, intense green light emission (518 nm), and excellent stability attributed to the complexation effect between the nanocellulose and PQDs. The PQD paper is combined with red K2SiF6:Mn4(+) phosphor and blue GaN LED chips to fabricate a high-performance white LED demonstrating ultrahigh luminous efficiency (124 lm W-1), wide color gamut (123% of National Television System Committee), and long operation lifetime (240 h), which paves the way for advanced lighting technology.Item type:Item, Perovskite CsPbBr3 Quantum Dots Prepared Using Discarded Lead-Acid Battery Recycled Waste(2019-03-02) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Tien, Ching-Ho ;Ou, Sin-Liang ;Lee, Kun-YiTian, JianjunPerovskite CsPbBr3 quantum dot (CsPbBr3-QD) recovery was performed using lead scrap from lead storage batteries. The perovskite CsPbBr3-QD characteristics were analyzed using different PbO/recycled PbO2 ratios. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the film surface morphology and cross-section. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to observe the perovskite CsPbBr3-QDs' structural characteristics. A photoluminescence (PL) measurement system was used to analyze the optical properties. The results show that lead scrap from lead-acid batteries as a material for perovskite CsPbBr3-QD production can be successfully synthesized. This saves material and also proves that recycling is valuable. The proposed approach is helpful for future material shortages and materials not easily accessible. Although the efficiency is not very high, this process will be purified using recycled lead in the future to achieve higher quantum yield.Item type:Item, Degradation Mechanisms for CdSe Quantum dot down converted LEDs(2018-01-01) ;Singh, Preetpal ;Tan, Cher Ming ;Kuo, Hao-Chung ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsLifetime of packaged white light emitting diodes (W-LEDs) using a blue LED and red quantum dot have been observed. A new phenomenon of light intensity increase during the initial lifetime is noticed followed by the rapid light output degradation. The initial increase in light output is believed to be due to photo -modification whereas the later rapid degradation is found to be due to photo oxidation mechanism.Item type:Item, The Analysis of Dual-Junction Tandem Solar Cells Enhanced by Surface Dispensed Quantum Dots(2018-09-01) ;Hsu, Shun-Chieh ;Huang, Yu-Ming ;Kao, Yu-Cheng ;Kuo, Hao-ChungHorng, Ray-HuaThe luminescent down-shifting (LDS) effect of a colloidal quantum dot layer on a dual junction solar cell is explored and analyzed. A 5.47% enhancement of power conversion efficiency is recorded when green quantum dots are dispersed on device surface. The surface reflectance spectra before and after the quantum dot dispenses are necessary to decouple the different mechanisms between antireflective and LDS effects. A further deduction of formulation on the dual-junction device with antireflection and LDS effect is presented and as high as 44.6% of short-circuit current increase in the green quantum dot case can be attributed to the LDS effect according to our calculation.Item type:Item, Fabrication of Flexible White Light-Emitting Diodes from Photoluminescent Polymer Materials with Excellent Color Quality(2017-10-11) ;Lin, Huang-Yu ;Sher, Chin-Wei ;Lin, Chih-Hao ;Tu, Hsien-HaoChen, Xin YinThis study developed flexible light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with warm white and neutral white light. A simple ultraviolet flip-chip sticking process was adopted for the pumping source and combined with polymer and quantum dot (QD) films technology to yield white light. The polymer-blended flexible LEDs exhibited higher luminous efficiency than the QD-blended flexible LEDs. Moreover, the polymer-blended LEDs, achieved excellent color-rendering index (CRI) values (Ra = 96 and R9 = 96), with high reliability, demonstrating high suitability for special applications like accent, down, or retrofit lights in the future. In places such as a museum, kitchen, or surgery room, its high R9 and high CRI characteristics can provide high-quality services.Item type:Item, The Effect of CdS QDs Structure on the InGaP/GaAs/Ge Triple Junction Solar Cell Efficiency(2014-03-01) ;Chung, Chen-Chen ;Tran, Binh Tinh ;Han, Hau-Vei ;Ho, Yen-TengYu, Hung-WeiThis work describes optical and electrical characteristics of InGaP/GaAs/Ge triple-junction (T-J) solar cells with CdS quantum dots (QDs) fabricated by a novel chemical solution. With the anti-reflective feature at long wavelength and down-conversion at UV regime, the CdS quantum dot effectively enhance the overall power conversion efficiency more than that of a traditional GaAs-based device. Experimental results indicate that CdS quantum dot can enhance the short-circuit current by 0.33 mA/cm(2), which is observed for the triple-junction solar cells with CdS QDs of about 3.5 nm in diameter. Moreover, the solar cell conversion efficiency is improved from 28.3% to 29.0% under one-sun AM 1.5 global illumination I-V measurement.Item type:Item, Efficiency enhancement of InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well solar cells using CdS quantum dots and distributed Bragg reflectors(2013) ;Tsai, Yu-Lin ;Lin, Chien-Chung ;Han, Hau-Vei ;Chen, Hsin-ChuChen, Kuo-JuIn recent year, InGaN-based alloy was also considered for photovoltaic devices owing to the distinctive material properties which are benefit photovoltaic performance. However, the Indium tin oxide (ITO) layer on top, which plays a role of transparent conductive oxide (TCO), can absorb UV photons without generating photocurrent. Also, the thin absorber layer in the device, which is consequent result after compromising with limited crystal quality, has caused insufficient light absorption. In this report, we propose an approach for solving these problems. A hybrid design of InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells (MQWs) solar cells combined with colloidal CdS quantum dots (QDs) and back side distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) has been demonstrated. CdS QDs provide down-conversion effect at UV regime to avoid absorption of ITO. Moreover, CdS QDs also exhibit anti-reflective feature. DBRs at the back side have effectively reflected the light back into the absorber layer. CdS QDs enhance the external quantum efficiency (EQE) for light with wavelength shorter than 400 nm, while DBRs provide a broad band enhancement in EQE, especially within the region of 400 nm similar to 430 nm in wavelength. CdS QDs effectively achieved a power conversion efficiency enhancement as high as 7.2% compared to the device without assistance of CdS QDs. With the participation of DBRs, the power conversion efficiency enhancement has been further boosted to 14%. We believe that the hybrid design of InGaN/GaN MQWs solar cells with QDs and DBRs can be a method for high efficiency InGaN/GaN MQWs solar cells.
