Item type:Item, Dual-Mode Dual-Band Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Transmission Zeros(2010-01-01) ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringDual-mode dual-band bandpass filters are developed based on a single ring resonator. The ring is composed of two half-wave stepped-impedance resonators with short-circuited ends, which are connected to ground vias by short high-impedance sections, providing inductive coupling between the resonating modes and hence bandwidth control. Experimental filters are fabricated and measured for validation. Skew-symmetric feed structure is employed in the first circuit for enhancing the frequency selectivity around the second band. Source-load coupling is incorporated with the second design to create transmission zeros on both sides of the two passbands, greatly improving the performance in transition bands. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Ultra-Compact Shorted Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2014) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesAn ultra-compact second-order bandpass filter with stopband extension is implemented with shorted ring resonators. In the design, the two resonances of the structure are separately controlled by electric and magnetic coupling between the rings. Two transmission zeros on both sides of the passband are created through the multipath effect between the 1/0 ports. Circuit miniaturization is accomplished by attaching an open low-impedance stub to each shorted ring. The upper stopband with a rejection better than 30 dB is extended to 4.32 times the passband frequency. The circuit area is only 8.8% of that of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Design of cross-coupled quarter-wave SIR filters with plural transmission zeros(2006) ;Hsu, Ching-Luh ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringA cross-coupled bandpass filter is designed with quarter-wave stepped-impedance resonators (SIRS) on a single circuit plane. The entire circuit has not only a compact area since half-sized SIRS are used, but also a wide upper stopband because the first spurious peak occurs at a frequency much higher than the passband. Plural transmission zeros on both sides of the passband can be realized by non-adjacent couplings and tapped input/output. Two-port Z-parameters are employed to formulate the analysis of the transmission zeros. An experimental filter is fabricated and measured to validate the design.Item type:Item, New Miniaturized Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new configuration for ring resonator is proposed for bandpass filter design with size reduction and stopband extension. The planar self-coupled ring is twisted at its middle and a short CPW section is implemented in the ground plane for the three-dimensional interconnection. The resonator has two resonance modes and the filter possesses one transmission zero on the high side of the passband. With a pair of open low-impedance stubs attached to the ring, the circuit has an area of only 9.65% of that of the conventional ring resonator filter, and the upper stopband is extended up to higher than five times the center frequency. Measured results of a fabricated prototype circuit show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Filtering Rat-Race Coupler With Transmission Zeros Using Compact Miniaturized Hairpin Resonators(2015) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Wu, Jen-Yi ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new compact filtering rat-race coupler is implemented by a 2x2 cross coupled configuration based on compact miniaturized hairpin resonators. Passband responses with transmission zeros are synthesized by an (n+4)x(n+4) coupling matrix. The zeros are created in the output ports by adding source-load coupling and their analytical expressions are derived. An experimental circuit is fabricated and measured. The circuit area is only 23.2% of that of a conventional rat-race coupler. Measured magnitude and phase responses of the four-port S-parameters show good agreement with simulation data.Item type:Item, Planar Multimode Resonator Bandpass Filters with Sharp Transition and Wide Stopband(2008) ;Chiou, Yi-Chyun ;Lee, Yu-Feng ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chen, Chi-Chen電信工程研究所Planar bandpass filters are contrived with a very sharp transition band and wide stopband based on multimode stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs). The SIR is tapped with two open stubs at its center and two more stubs at the junctions of the low- and high-impedance sections. By properly trimming the stub lengths, the leading five resonances of the SIR have a close proximity and constitute the passband. Besides, two transmission zeros can be created at both upper and lower sides of the passband. It is believed that the SIR has the most resonant modes in comparison with those in open literature. Based on the multimode resonator, a single-resonator bandpass filter with five transmission poles is designed to have a fractional bandwidth of 35%. In addition, by cascading two such resonators, a tenth-order filter is designed, fabricated and measured. Good agreement between simulation and measured results is obtained.Item type:Item, Novel Dual-Mode Resonator Bandpass Filter With High Rejection in Extended Wide Stopband(2012) ;Chen, Dian-Jing ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA dual-mode resonator filter is designed to have a wide upper stopband. The design incorporates a controllable transmission zero near the passband for selectivity enhancement. Through the proposed input and output coupling structure, more transmission zeros are generated for multi-order spurious passband suppression and upper stopband extension. As a result, the stopband is extended up to 7 times the center frequency (7f(0)) with a rejection better than 30-dB, and to 5.82f(0) with at least 40-dB. Measurement results show good agreement with simulation.Item type:Item, Bandwidth and Transmission Zero Control for Compact Dual-Mode Resonator Filter by Extraction of EM Coupling(2012) ;Tang, Shao-Chan ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesThe electric coupling and magnetic coupling are extracted for a dual-mode resonator filter. The resonator is a half-wave section with its center being shorted to ground. The extraction relies on an equivalent circuit model. With properly tuning of the coupled-line sections, the electric and magnetic coupling coefficients of the two quarter-wave resonators can be adjusted, and hence both the filter bandwidth and zero frequency can be controlled. Two experimental filters are fabricated and measured for validation. Good agreement between measurement and simulation is obtained.Item type:Item, Compact Hairpin Resonator Bandpass Filters with Dual-Band Response and Wide Upper Stopband(2009) ;Hsieh, Ping-Yueh ;Chiou, Yi-Chyun ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Lok, U. Hou傳播研究所Compact bandpass filters are devised with a dual-passband response and a wide upper stopband based on hairpin resonators with three shunt open stubs; one is tapped at its center and the other two are allocated on both sides symmetrically. By adjusting the stub lengths, all resonators are designed to have two identical leading resonant frequencies but different higher-order ones. To enhance the rejection level and extend the upper stopband, the transmission zeros created by the tap structures and the coupled-line stages are used to eliminate the remaining leading unwanted peaks. In addition, a method for reducing the radiation loss in upper stopband is investigated. Measured results show that the fifth-order filter has a rejection level below 30 dB can be extended to six times the first frequency. Good agreement between measured and simulation is obtained.Item type:Item, Extraction of Electric and Magnetic Coupling for Coupled Symmetric Microstrip Resonator Bandpass Filter with Tunable Transmission Zero(2009) ;Tang, Shao-Chan ;Yu, Cheng-Hsuan ;Chiou, Yi-Chyun ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai傳播研究所An effective approach is demonstrated for extracting the electric and magnetic coupling components from the coupling coefficient between two coupled symmetric microstrip resonators. It is found that the extraction provides an extra degree of freedom for circuit design. A transmission zero near passband can be created without any cross-coupling scheme but by properly selecting the parameters of the resonators. An equivalent circuit is derived for characterizing the extraction of the coupling and control of the zero. Two experimental filters are realized and measured to validate the approach.
