Item type:Item, RiceTalk: Rice Blast Detection Using Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence Technologies(2020-02-01) ;Chen, Wen-Liang ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Ng, Fung-Ling ;Liu, Chun-YouLin, Yun-WeiRice blast is one of the most serious plant diseases. Many rice blast management approaches require know-how of experienced farmers or agronomists. Monitoring the farm for disease detection is labor intensive and time consuming. By using the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), we are able to detect plant diseases more efficiently. Existing AI and IoT studies detect plant diseases by images or nonimage hyperspectral data, which require manual operations to obtain the photographs or data for analysis. Also, image detection typically is too late as rice blast may already spread to other plants. Based on an IoT platform for soil cultivation, we develop the RiceTalk project that utilizes nonimage IoT devices to detect rice blast. Unlike the image-based plant disease detection approaches, our agriculture sensors generate nonimage data that can be automatically trained and analyzed by the AI mechanism in real time. The beauty of RiceTalk is that the AI model is treated as an IoT device and is managed like other IoT devices. In this way, our approach significantly reduces the platform management cost to provide real-time training and predictions. We also propose an innovative spore germination mechanism as a new feature extraction model for agriculture. In the current implementation, the accuracy of the RiceTalk prediction on rice blast is 89.4%.Item type:Item, Implementing AI as Cyber IoT Devices: The House Valuation Example(2020-04-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Liu, Chun-You ;Lin, Jiun-YiShih, Yu-LinInternet of Things (IoT) has been widely utilized with artificial intelligence (AI). However, it requires substantial effort to integrate AI and big data with IoT. To mitigate this problem, AItalk was proposed. By treating AI as a cyber IoT device, we do not need to write code of the AI mechanism in the network applications, as traditional AI-based IoT applications did. This article describes how the AI tools such as scikit-learn and TensorLayer are accommodated as cyber IoT devices in AItalk, and extends AItalk for non-IoT applications. We use house valuation as an example to show how AItalk can flexibly include the factors that have significant impact on the house price. We show that by adding extra features other than housing profile features, the accuracy for the prediction (valuation) can be improved by 38 & x0025;. We also investigated the communication overhead of the distributed AItalk structure, which is 3.7 & x0025; for the computation of one house price valuation.Item type:Item, PlantTalk: A Smartphone-Based Intelligent Hydroponic Plant Box(2019-04-02) ;Van, Lan-Da ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Wu, Tsung-Han ;Lin, Yun-WeiPeng, Syuan-RuThis paper proposes an IoT-based intelligent hydroponic plant factory solution called PlantTalk. The novelty of our approach is that the PlantTalk intelligence can be built through an arbitrary smartphone. We show that PlantTalk can flexibly configure the connections of various plant sensors and actuators through a smartphone. One can also conveniently write Python programs for plant-care intelligence through the smart phone. The developed plant-care intelligence includes automatic LED lighting, water spray, water pump and so on. As an example, we show that the PlantTalk intelligence effectively lowers the CO2 concentration, and the reduction speed is 53% faster than a traditional plant system. PlantTalk has been extended for a plant factory called AgriTalk.Item type:Item, ArduTalk: A Graphical Programming tool for Arduino using IoTtalk(2017-01-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMany Internet of Things (IoT) technologies interconnect physical sensors, actuators, and heterogeneous computing devices within the existing Internet infrastructure, which make our life more convenient. ArduTalk is a graphical programming environment based on IoTtalk, which aims to develop internetworking Arduino applications for multiple Arduino boards. Therefore, sensors and actuators can be plugged in different Arduino boards, and the user can utilize ArduTalk to arbitrarily link and re-link sensors to actuators to create different applications for different purposes, which is a very convenient way to develop IoT applications especially for beginners. Performance measurement shows that the actuator still has a quick response time when the actuator is triggered by a sensor through ArduTalk.Item type:Item, Location-based IoT applications on campus: The IoTtalk approach(2017-09-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Hsiao, Chung-Yun ;Wang, Shie-Yuan資訊工程學系The National Chiao Tung University is deploying several location-based IoT applications on campus based on an IoT device management platform called IoTtalk. The applications include dog tracking, emergency buttons, and indoor/outdoor environment conditions monitoring (PM2.5, temperature, CO2, and so on). Some of the IoT devices for these applications have simple hardware structures to save energy, and therefore are not equipped with the positioning sensors (e.g., GPS or iBeacon). To support mobility management for these simple IoT devices, we develop a location finding mechanism in IoTtalk. By introducing the locator device in IoTtalk, we can effectively support mobility management for simple IoT devices that does not have location positioning capability. We describe how to develop the device applications to accommodate the location update feature, and show how to configure the location finding mechanism through the IoTtalk GUI. Then we conduct analytic analysis and simulation to investigate the accuracy of location tracking and power consumption for the dog tracking application. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. This paper proposes CampusTalk that provides convenient access to cyber and physical devices through the web technology. In this way, the campus applications can be accessed anywhere in the world through any computing device with a display and a browser without installing any mobile app. CampusTalk unifies the concepts of automatic creation of "mirror device features'' (simulated counterpart) and talkPal device features, which are nicely demonstrated through several applications on campus. The core application of CampusTalk is SmartPhoneTalk that allows other applications to be accessed by students through their smartphones without installing any mobile apps. We describe three CampusTalk applications, including MusicTalk, PingPongTalk, and SkeletonTalk, to demonstrate cyber and physical interaction with SmartPhoneTalk. After the IoT devices of these applications have been developed and are accommodated in CampusTalk, the students can use the CampusTalk GUI to connect them with various combinations for innovative applications without extra programming effort.
