Item type:Item, High-resolution fiber Bragg grating sensor system using linear-cavity fiber laser scheme(2002-09-05) ;Peng, PC ;Tseng, HY ;Chi, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA high-resolution fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system using a linear-cavity fiber laser scheme is proposed and numerically studied. The proposed sensor system can improve the sensing accuracy by using a discriminating FBG pair in conjunction with a fiber laser scheme. This FBG sensor system can resolve the temperature up to 0.0005degreesC theoretically and can be applied for strain sensing and temperature sensing with high precision. The self-healing function is constructed by using a primary ring architecture incorporated with several ring sub-networks. To enhance the sensing signal when a breakpoint suddenly occurs in the network, we employ a fiber-ring laser-based sensor system. The network survivability of an 11-point FBG sensor is experimentally examined. The proposed fiber grating sensor system can increase the reliability of a sensing network. The lasing wavelength shift resulting from the temperature variation on this sensing element is discriminated by two FBGs. These two FBGs, acting as wavelength discriminators, are used to increase the real-time measurement range for monitoring the temperature variation. The FBG survivability and capacity of a multipoint sensor system are enhanced by adding remote nodes and 2 x 2 optical switches to the star-bus-ring architecture. Moreover, to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the sensor system, we adopt a FBG laser scheme in constructing our proposed star-bus-ring architecture. The fiber laser adopted in this system resulted in an SNR of more than 50 dB for the sensor system. Finally, the network survivability is experimentally verified.Item type:Item, Long-distance FBG sensor system using fiber ring laser with hybrid amplifier(2005) ;Peng, PC ;Feng, KM ;Peng, WR ;Chiou, HYChang, CCA fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system using a fiber ring laser with a hybrid amplifier is proposed and demonstrated. The hybrid amplifier comprises an erbium doped waveguide amplifier and a semiconductor optical amplifier. The experiment shows that such the hybrid amplifier has a high amplifier spontaneous emission power and gain spectrum. Moreover, this fiber ring laser can provide a stable multiwavelength output with an optical signal-to-noise ratio over 50 dB even if the FBGs are located at a 25 kin remote sensing position.Item type:Item, Long-distance fiber grating sensor system using a fiber ring laser with EDWA and SOA(2005-08-01) ;Peng, PC ;Feng, KM ;Peng, WR ;Chiou, HYChang, CCThis investigation presents and demonstrates the feasibility of a novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor system using a fiber ring laser with a hybrid amplifier. The hybrid amplifier comprises an erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Experimental results demonstrate that the hybrid amplifier has a higher amplifier spontaneous emission power and gain spectrum. Moreover, this novel fiber ring laser provides a stable multiwavelength output with an optical signal-to-noise ratio over 50 dB, even when FBGs are located at a 25 km remote sensing position. The primary feature of the proposed fiber laser is that it facilitates a long-distance or a large-scale sensor system. (C) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
