As companies and organizations have grown to rely on their computer systems and networks, the issue of information security management has become more significant. To maintain their competitiveness, enterprises should safeguard their information and try to eliminate the risk of information being compromised or reduce this risk to an acceptable level. This paper proposes an information security risk-control assessment model that could improve information security for these companies and organizations. We propose an MCDM model combining VIKOR, DEMATEL, and ANP to solve the problem of conflicting criteria that show dependence and feedback. In addition, an empirical application of evaluating the risk controls is used to illustrate the proposed method. The results show that our proposed method can be effective in helping IT managers validate the effectiveness of their risk controls. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

There are many studies on the application examples and the definitions of the super-matrix in the Analytic Network Process (ANP). The ANP applies network structures with the alternatives and the criteria to clarify a complex decision-making. It is important to obtain the consent from both the criteria and the alternatives because the evaluation is relative and reciprocal. In addition, there are very few studies on the interaction between the criteria and the alternatives. There is no realistic interpretation of the maximum eigenvalue in the ANP and the negative elements of the criteria matrix. Based on our study, the evaluation with only the alternatives consists of the missing values or the non-square matrix, it is not easy to make. The ANP that contains these irregular alternatives is defined as "Minor ANP". Then, we describe these methods of making the priority of only the alternative's matrix values by using the ANP. This study has proven that the missing values in the alternative matrix can be replaced by zeros such that the criteria matrix can be derived without using the inverse alternative matrix. Then, the priority of alternative selection can be obtained through the calculation of eigenvector. An empirical case of the best selection of supplier illustrates our proposed methods for applying to the manufacturing industry. The result reveals the methods can be well adopted in the real world.

Environmentally conscious manufacturing and product recovery (ECMPRO) has become an obligation of manufacturers, and it has been extended to be the policy and strategy of businesses. Producing recyclable products and using recycled materials are optimal strategies for ECMPRO. Vendor selection (VS) is one of the multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems in strategic supply chain management. The purpose of this article is to propose how the best selection to conduct the recycled materials can be implemented for enhancing and increasing the efficiency of using resources in the manufacturing process through recycled materials VS. Aluminum composite panel (ACP) is a global product, and ACP companies in Taiwan use recycled materials in more than 80% for their products on a quantity basis. Therefore, we selected the ACP industry of Taiwan as an empirical model to study VS and to reveal methods of improving gaps in each criterion for achieving the aspired levels of performance. We use the MCDM model combining DEMATEL-based on ANP (called DANP) with VIKOR to solve the recycled materials VS problems of multiple dimensions and criteria that are interdependent, instead of the independent assumption of an analytic hierarchy process, for mimicking the real-world scenario. Traditionally, most importance-assessing methods used to demonstrate the importance among criteria by preference weightings are based on the assumptions of additivity and independence. In fact, people have found that using such an additive model is not always feasible because of the dependence and feedback among the criteria to somewhat different degrees. To solve the issue the analytic network process (ANP) method is proposed by Saaty. The general method is easy and useful for solving the above-mentioned problem. However in ANP procedures, using average method (equal cluster-weighted) to obtain the weighted supermatrix seems to be irrational because there are different degrees of influence among the criteria. Therefore, we intended to propose an integrated multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques which combined with the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and a novel cluster-weighted with ANP method in this paper, in which the DEMATEL method is used to visualize the structure of complicated causal relationships between criteria of a system and obtain the influence level of these criteria. And, then adopt these influence level values as the base of normalization supermatrix for calculating ANP weights to obtain the relative importance. Additionally, an empirical study is illustrated to demonstrate that the proposed method is more suitable and reasonable. By the concept of ideal point, some important conclusions drawn from a practical application can be referred by practitioners. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This research aims to propose a hybrid process concerning the economic and industrial prospects along with critical technology streams toward a more effective selection on new technology. The integration of fuzzy Delphi method, the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, and the analytic network process (ANP) is employed to construct a technology selection model regarding the economic and industrial prospects. On the other hand, the patent co-citation approach (PCA) is applied to objectively draw key technology fields as technology alternatives for the technology selection model from patent data. The emerging organic light emitting diode (OLED) display technology is used as a case in order to verify the applicability of proposed a novel hybrid MCDM method for the best technology selection. The result of this hybrid process can help top managers of technology-based companies or policy makers of governments to more objectively and effectively determine future research and development direction. Strategic airline alliances are an increasingly common strategy for enhancing airline competitiveness and satisfying customer needs, especially in an era characterized by blurring industry boundaries, fast-changing technologies, and global integration. Airlines have been very active in utilizing this form of strategic development. However, the selection of a suitable partner for a strategic alliance is not an easy decision, involving a host of complex considerations by different departments. Furthermore the decision-makers may hold diverse opinions and preferences arising due to incomplete information and knowledge or inherent conflict between various departments. In this study fuzzy preference programming and the analytic network process (ANP) are combined to form a model for the selection of partners for strategic alliances. The effects of uncertainty and disagreement between decision-makers as well as the interdependency and feedback that arise from the use of different criteria and alternatives are also addressed. This generic model can be easily extended to fulfill the specific needs of a variety of companies. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier B.V.
