Item type:Item, Modeling knowledge sharing and team performance in technology industry: the main and moderating effects of happiness(2020-06-01) ;Liu, Min-Ling ;Hsieh, Meng-Wen ;Hsiao, Chan ;Lin, Chieh-PengYang, ChyanThis study complements previous literature by bridging activity theory and the broaden-and-build theory to examine how happiness (as an intrinsic driver) and knowledge sharing (as an extrinsic driver) influence team performance. The contributions of this study are twofolds. First, this study fills a research gap concerning what mediates the simultaneous influences of happiness and knowledge sharing on team performance. Second, both main and moderating effects of happiness in the development of team performance are explored in this study, which is rarely discussed in the literature. By surveying 116 teams from high-tech firms in Taiwan, this study opens a black box regarding the mediation of team proactivity and team proficiency and the moderation of happiness in the development of team performance. Lastly, managerial implications and limitations based on the empirical findings are provided.Item type:Item, CORPORATE GOVERNANCE REFORM IN TAIWAN Could the Independent Director System Be an Effective Remedy?(2008-09-01) ;Liu, John S. ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementAt the forefront of corporate governance reform in Taiwan is establishment of the independent director system. Traditionally, tube thoracostomy is the first choice for managing this complication. The goal of this study was to determine the benefits of this approach in elderly patients with and without an initial tube thoracostomy. Seventy-eight patients aged >65 years with blunt chest trauma and stable vital signs were included. All of them had more than 300mL of hemothorax, indicating that a tube thoracostomy was necessary. The basic demographic data and clinical outcomes of patients with hemothorax who underwent direct video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery without a tube thoracostomy were compared with those who received an initial tube thoracostomy. Patients who did not receive a thoracostomy had lower posttrauma infection rates (28.6% versus 56.3%, P = 0.061) and a significantly shorter length of stay in the intensive care unit (3.13 versus 8.27, P = 0.029) and in the hospital (15.93 versus 23.17, P = 0.01) compared with those who received a thoracostomy. The clinical outcomes in the patients who received direct VATS were more favorable compared with those of the patients who did not receive direct VATS.Item type:Item, The link between state-of-mind and individuals' willingness to adopt and continue using smartphones(2018-01-01) ;Shih, Po-Hong ;Yang, Keng-Chieh ;Yang, Chyan ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinancePurpose Although numerous studies have examined factors that influence smartphone acceptance and use, few have analyzed cognitive age. This study aims to use the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) to test two models to analyze the moderating effect of cognitive age. This research offers relevant suggestions among different cognitive age groups. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect research data in Taiwan and the UTAUT model was used. Model 1 ensures all four antecedent constructs among digital natives (those under 34 years old). Model 2 divides the digital immigrants into two groups to test the influence of cognitive age on the behaviors of smartphone use. This study tests Model 1 using AMOS 20 to examine the measurement and structural model and validates Model 2 using partial least squares (PLSs). Findings In Model 1, the digital natives have sufficient confidence to accept a new technology with ease and little effort owing to most educational resources and the widespread internet. Group 1 in Model 2 reveals that the behavior of digital immigrants is similar to that of digital natives. For Group 2 in Model 2, they tend to infer that skills or tasks they associate with having higher value are more difficult to learn. Originality/value This study provides another dimensional result for different cognitive age groups and it has to consider not only chronological age but also cognitive age in user behavior. The result can enrich the theoretical perspective on technology adoption and use behavior via cognitive age, which is a significant and important self-related factor that can help predict technology adoption and use behavior.Item type:Item, Productivity comparison of European airlines: bootstrapping Malmquist indices(2016-11) ;Yang, Chyan ;Wang, Tung-Pao ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementThe study explored the operating efficiency and variability of productivity estimates of European airlines. We applied Malmquist productivity indices (MPI) with a bootstrap method to assess the productivities of European airlines in four regions in Europe. The productivity of small-sized airlines lagged further behind that of large-sized airlines because of their inferior technological change (TC) effects derived from inefficient resource allocation to sustain a competitive advantage. This study also indicated that the Western European airlines were more efficient on average than those in other areas of Europe. The applications of Malmquist productivity techniques in assessing the performance of European airlines are highlighted in their effective resource allocation, sustained competitive advantage and optimized operating performance.Item type:Item, Ethical Leadership and Multidimensional Organizational Citizenship Behaviors: The Mediating Effects of Self-Efficacy, Respect, and Leader-Member Exchange(2016-06) ;Yang, Chyan ;Ding, Cherng G. ;Lo, Kai Wen ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementThis study examined the relationship between ethical leadership and multidimensional organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs), specifically organization-targeted OCBs (OCBO) and individual-targeted OCBs (OCBI). In addition, the study examined the multiple mediating effects of self-efficacy, respect, and leader-member exchange (LMX) on the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBO, as well as the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBI. Through the application of a hierarchical linear model, an analysis of the results from 656 dyadic supervisor-subordinate data from 145 business units in Taiwan showed that both respect and LMX significantly mediated the ethical leadership-OCBO and leadership-OCBI relationships. The implications of these results for theory and practice and directions for future research are also discussed.Item type:Item, An Integrated Home Financial Investment Learning Environment Applying Cloud Computing in Social Network Analysis(2011) ;Wen, Mao-Ping ;Lin, Hsio-Yi ;Chen, An-Pin ;Yang, Chyan資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所This paper tried to apply cloud computing technology in social network analysis for a comprehensive home financial learning environment that individual investors may use as a reference in establishing web-based learning and investment platforms. The major contributions were described in three parts. First, this paper advanced the social network analysis technology to be able to handle millions of nodes and links. Second, we demonstrate how cloud computing can be applied to advanced computing in social network. Third, we performed several intelligent analyses on a very popular social network, IHFILE, to identify some interesting and important features of it. In addition to analyzing a homogeneous social network such as IHFILE, we also propose direction of how cloud computing can be performed on a social network analysis as our future work.Item type:Item, An authoring tool and extendable production architecture for interactive television services(2006) ;Hsu, Kuo-Shu ;Yang, Chyan ;Chao, T. -H. steve ;管理學院College of ManagementInteractive TV program is made possible by digital television standards. MHP, Multimedia Home Platform, is an open standard from DVB for creating interactive content application. MHP provides a rich set of application programming interface for designer to create various kinds of services by direct Java programming. In this paper, we will describe an innovative authoring tool for enhancing interactive TV service creation environments. A layered scene-and-shot model has been created to represent the interactive services content relationship and store in XML form. Individual object is mapped to the HA Vi user interface component and associated action so that it could response to the TV user\'s remote control action. With online Java code generation and compilation, the interactive service can be easily transformed into MHP Xlet application. This approach creates a flexible platform architecture that can be used to add new features, such as digital rights management and personal video recording, to the broadcast service(1).Item type:Item, Comparison of Cross-tour Traveling Service Satisfaction: A Correspondence-cluster Graphical Representation of Doubled Data Matrix(2008) ;Tseng, Shun-Yao ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementThe correspondence analysis and correspondence cluster analysis are useful and can be more clear and practical in the field of travel satisfaction research for the case of categorical criteria values. We demonstrate this claim by performing three tasks: (1) to transform the Likert scaling data matrix to binary data matrix, then double the binary data matrix, (2) the complementary use of correspondence analysis and (3) correspondence cluster analysis will be performed on the doubled binary data matrix. A simultaneous graphical representation of the relationship between multi-tour and service quality can be obtained. This diagram, the correspondence cluster dendrogram, is helpful to the decision maker in understanding the competitive advantage of different tours and in improving their travel service quality.Item type:Item, Predicting Travel Intention to take HSR among College Students(2008) ;Hsiao, Chun-Hua ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementTo understand travelers\' willingness to take High Speed Railroad (HSR) and its antecedents, this study added two constructs- novelty seeking and trust- to the model of theory of planned behavior (TPB). Research data was collected in a survey of 300 college students from a university in northern Taiwan. Results indicated that attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norm were found to have positive effects on behavioral intention of taking HSR. Furthermore, novelty seeking and trust also have positive influences on these antecedents of taking HSR intention. Theoretical and marketing implications were derived.
