Item type:Item, Skyrmions as the ground states of quantum dots in strong magnetic fields(1999-12-15) ;Chiueh, HL ;Chuu, DS ;電子物理學系Department of ElectrophysicsWe note that the properties of skyrmions capture many features of the ground states of quantum dots in strong magnetic fields. Therefore, in the present work we choose skyrmions with high winding numbers as trial ground states. In our results, we find that the occurrence of skyrmions fits an instability criterion of maximum density droplet very well. Interesting spin structures are found and such structures are recently supported by electron spin resonance experiments. The addition spectrum is calculated and the transition found in recent experiments is attributable to anti-skyrmion to skyrmion transition. The implication of pair tunneling from our trial wave function is discussed. It is shown that the spin-orbit splitting in the dispersion relation for the electrons in A(III)B(V) semiconductor quantum-tunneling structures can provide a dependence of the tunneling transmission probability on the electron's spin polarization. The dependence is calculated and discussed for different kinds of tunnel heterostructures. Rev. Lett. 42, 1582 (1979)], we calculate explicitly up to fourth order and arrive at different results for the energy corrections and nodal point shifts of the first excited state.Item type:Item, Diatomic molecule under pulsed field: One-dimensional versus full-dimensional studies(1998-09-01) ;Lin, JT ;Chuu, DS ;Jiang, TF ;電子物理學系物理研究所This work investigates the dissociation dynamics of a diatomic molecule under the chirped pulse with the vibrational and rotational degrees of freedom. Results obtained herein are also compared with those of the conventionally used one-dimensional (ID) model. According to the comparison, the 1D model still provides valuable information such as dissociation dynamics. Meanwhile, predictions such as harmonic generation spectrum from the 1D model are impractical.Item type:Item, Properties of sputtered Cr-O and reactively sputtered Cr-N-O as passivation layers against copper oxidation(1998-11-01) ;Chuang, JC ;Chen, MC ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsPassivation layers of 200 Angstrom sputtered Cr-O as well as reactive sputtered Cr-N-O were studied with respect to the passivation capability against thermal oxidation of Cu in flowing nitrogen and flowing oxygen ambients. In a flowing N-2 ambient, both Cr-O and Cr-N-O passivation layers were able to prohibit oxidation of Cu at temperatures up to 700 degrees C. In an O-2 ambient, the passivation capability of Cr-N-O layer was found to be 500 degrees C, which is 150 degrees C higher than that of Cr-O layer. The superiority of the passivation capability of the Cr-N-O layer is presumably due to decoration of the surface defects and grain boundaries with nitrogen, which provide fast paths for oxygen and copper diffusion. The interchain interaction is treated microscopically. The energy and charge transfer fraction of the (light-emitting) lowest singlet state are found to depend sensitively on the horizontal shift of the two chains, which is in turn determined by the packing geometry. Our predictions of the excimer-forming geometry and the relative (dipole-forbidden) photoluminescence lifetimes are in excellent agreement with experiments.Item type:Item, Nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equations and Hamiltonian-like matrices(1998-09-22) ;Juang, J ;Lin, WW ;應用數學系Department of Applied MathematicsWe consider a nonsymmetric algebraic matrix Riccati equation arising from transport theory. The nonnegative solutions of the equation can be explicitly constructed via the inversion formula of a Cauchy matrix. An error analysis and numerical results are given. We also show a comparison theorem of the nonnegative solutions.Item type:Item, Experimental electronic structure of Be2C(1998-09-15) ;Tzeng, CT ;Tsuei, KD ;Lo, WS ;光電工程研究所Institute of EO EnginerringThe insulating Be2C thin films have been successfully prepared on a Be surface. A low-energy electron diffraction pattern shows that the films have (100) orientation along the surface normal. We have used angle-resolved photoemission to map out the occupied bulk band dispersion along the T-X direction. The band-gap edges at the X point are 6.7 and 11.5 eV below the valence-band maximum, which is located at the Gamma point. These values are in good agreement with theoretical calculations. The unoccupied bulk electronic structure is measured using C Is near-edge x-ray-absorption spectroscopy. The spectrum is similar in shape to the energy-loss spectrum and the calculated p-partial density of states, while the peak positions are different.Item type:Item, Macro-cell placement fos custom-chip design using self-organizing fuzzy technique(1998-01-01) ;Chang, RI ;Hsiao, PY ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn this paper, a new optimization technique called SOFT (self-organizing fuzzy technique) is proposed to solve the macro-cell placement problem. In SOFT, different criteria are simultaneously accounted by a novel fuzzy gain function which models expert knowledge to control the optimization process. The presented procedure is an adaptation of Kohonen's self-organization algorithm which is well suited for implementation on massively parallel architecture for fast computing. The MCNC benchmark examples are presented to verify the performance and feasibility of SOFT. Comparisons are made with the Hopfield network, SOAP and TimberWolf MC5.6. Experiments show that the proposed method yields an average of 17% improvement in total wire length compared with previous methods. Large size problems with 225 and 1024 arbitrarily-sized macrocells are also presented.
