Independent component analysis (ICA) has been wildly used to improve EEC based application such as brain computer interface (BCI). However, some well know ICA algorithm, such as Infomax ICA, suffering from the problem of convergence latency and make it hard to be apply on real-time application. This paper proposes a highly efficient chip implementation of multi-channel EEC real-time system based on online recursive independent component analysis algorithm (ORICA). The core size of the chip is 1.5525-mm(2) using 28nm CMOS technology. The EEC demonstration board will be implemented with the ORICA chip. The operation frequency and power consumption of the chip are 100 MHz and 17.9 mW respectively. The proposed chip was validated with a real-time circuit integrated system and the average correlation coefficient between simulations results and chip processing results is 0.958.

This paper presents a new multi-modality readout system for potentiometric electrochemical sensors. The design adopts a pulse modulation at the gate and drain of the Bio-FET sensors to reduce the effects of charge accumulation between the surface of the electrodes and the ion analytes. The adjustable duration and amplitude of stimuli signals provide flexibility for different biosensing applications and a wide range of detectable concentration. Also, an oscillator-based architecture is proposed for digitization and integration. The counting time can be adjusted to enhance the resolution of the readout system. The proposed potentiometric sensing system was tested with 0.1-10 mM Potassium Ferricyanide (K-3[Fe(CN)(6)]), and the results are interpreted in the micro-LCD on the board. The design offers the opportunity for a handheld medical device with fast and real-time monitoring of biomarkers and ion analytes.

Treatment costs for ventilator-dependent patients are a substantial burden not only for their family but also for medical systems in general. Recently, using high-frequency ventilators have been shown to reduce the risk of lung injury through low-volume airflow. However, the machines used today remain bulky, costly, and only for use in hospital settings. To provide intermediate therapy for patients between hospitalization and complete discharge, a portable, light-weight high-frequency ventilator is an urgent need. This work presents the design of a portable high-frequency ventilator and a study of its practicality for further clinical medical applications. Through the integration of advanced electronics and mechanical instruments, we develop a portable high-frequency ventilator with reconfigurable oxygen flow rate, applied pressure, and air volume for the needs of individual patients. A miniaturized portable high-frequency ventilator with digital controller and feedback system for stabilization and precision control is implemented. The efficiency of CO2 washout using the proposed ventilator has been demonstrated in animal trials.

This paper presents a wide-input-range rectifier design with a diode-feeding (DF) architecture and load modulation. Dynamically-biased diodes are connected to the gates of the rectifying transistors to create bias voltage differences for PMOS and NMOS devices and the isolation of the reverse currents at different input power levels. Also, the switch-capacitor-based load modulation scheme is proposed to achieve optimal efficiency over wide-range load current deviations automatically. The proposed four-stage rectifier design was fabricated using 65nm CMOS technology and occupies a silicon area of 0.92 x 0.27mm(2). The measured sensitivity of the rectifier is -15dBm at 1M Omega load, and the peak power conversion efficiency is 28% at a load of 22k Omega With the load modulation scheme, the conversion efficiency is enhanced by >10% in a load current from 7 mu A to 35 mu A, when compared to a design without the load modulation scheme.

In this paper, we present a 6.78-MHz highefficiency wireless power transfer system with a reconfigurable class-D power amplifier and a 0X/1X regulating rectifier. The proposed reconfigurable power amplifier delivers 0.25X/1X output power by adjusting the power-stage configuration to improve system efficiency. To enhance the receiver efficiency, the proposed 0X/1X regulating rectifier with adaptive offset compensation achieves both voltage rectification and voltage regulation in a single conversion stage. The measurement results demonstrate a 90.1% peak receiver efficiency and a 69.3% peak system efficiency. The system provides the load circuit with 5-V regulated output and 250-mW maximum output power.

This paper highlights a wide range of (sub)-mm Wave system-on-chip (SoC) applications from space exploration to contactless connectivity. Passive and active SoCs developed at UCLA and NCTU, including heterodyne-radiometer, spectrometer processor, and multiband radio/radars, will he exemplified as cost/weight/energy-effective ways to explore astrophysics and earth/planetary sciences. Multi-Giga-bit/sec contactless connectors based on mm-Wave radios have also been successfully developed and commercialized to replace high-performance mechanical connectors/cables for smartphones, electrical cars, and data centers. Techniques to augment range and bandwidth efficiency according to PAM-4 modulations and flexible plastic waveguide are also reviewed with design and test results.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive and non-radiative medical imaging technique based on detecting the inhomogeneous electrical properties of the tissue. The inverse problem of EIT is a highly nonlinear ill-posed problem, which is the main reason that affects image quality. Our goal is to solve the EIT inverse problem using the nonlinear mapping properties of artificial neural networks (ANNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this paper, the adaptive moment estimation (ADAM) optimization method and mean-square-error (MSE) function are used to train an ANN to solve the inverse problem and a CNN to process the ANN image. The networks are trained on datasets of simulated data, and tested on datasets of simulated data and experimental data. Results for time-difference EIT (td-EIT) images are presented using simulated EIT data from EIDORS and experimental EIT data from our EIT systems. The results are used to compare the proposed method with the one-step Gauss-Newton linear method and RBFNN method. The proposed method offers improved resolution (RES), low position error (PE) and excellent artefact removal compared to the existing methods. The experimental results show that our method can improve the RES by 50 to 70 percent and reduce the PE by 60 to 70 percent. The improvements in RES and processing speed are essential for clinical EIT measurement of dynamic physiological processes.

Delivering power wirelessly and efficiently through low-e glass window is critical for successful deployment of 5G Fixed Wireless Access services. This research reports the effect of low-emissivity glass on wireless power transfer using magnetic-field resonant coupling technique. The hybrid electromagnetic-circuit method is employed to formulate the input-output relation of the power at transmit- and receive-coils, particularly in the presence of low-emissivity (e) glass. The equivalent circuit model of the low-e glass is developed to integrate the structure/material into circuit analysis.

A 0.45 V 28-nm 32 -Kb SRAM with multi-powersupply low-power circuits, such as a cross-point 5T with built-in Y_line, gate-boosted drivers and adaptive tracking circuits, demonstrates a sub-ns access time and sub mW/GHz power dissipation. The 5T circuits are feasible to reduce the power of a 6T 32-Kb core to about 30% with quite the same sub-ns access time. The performance evaluation also indicates the new bit cell and array architecture open the door to the sub-ns access time and sub mW/GHz in sub-0.5 V multi-Mb era.
