However, most of the traditional traffic data collection methods lack mobility that can only collect macroscopic data. In this paper, an intelligent traffic monitoring system based on an open source cooperative platform called SAGE2 was developed. Based on the integrated big screen TV wall of SAGE2, a map-based aerial traffic video streaming management interface was designed. In the image pre-processing section, it provides functions such as lens distortion removal, top view projection transforms, and video stabilization; simulate video streaming to provide instant and long-term micro-flow data collection. Micro-traffic flow data provides high-resolution information both in time and space which can be used to analyze the driving behavior of individuals and the public. Combined with the lane level map, it can provide a variety of visual vehicle flow presentations, such as intersection traffic distribution that can also be used to develop an innovative application in the future.Item type:Item, A 368 x 184 Optical Under-Display Fingerprint Sensor With Global Shutter and High-Dynamic-Range Operation(2020-01-01) ;Yin, Ping-Hung ;Lu, Chih-Wen ;Wang, Jia-Shyang ;Chang, Keng-LiLin, Fu-KuoThis study proposes a 368 x 184 optical underdisplay fingerprint sensor designed and prototyped using 0.11-mu m CIS technology. The prototype sensor with global shutter operation and an ADC-embedded in an 8-pixel configuration features low noise, low-power consumption, fast response time, and a smaller signal processing circuit area. Two sets of memory (184 x 92 bytes) are also embedded in the pixel array to save external memory cost. A dynamic range of 126 dB is achieved with 8-segment auto exposure and dark level adjustment with programmable gain control. The prototype fingerprint sensor was successfully embedded in a mobile phone for functional verification, and the power consumption was only 25 mW with a 3.3 V supply voltage. The sensor has a chip size of 9.74 mm x 4.6 mm, a resolution of 1154 dpi, and a sensing area of 73%.Item type:Item, On Optimizing Signaling Efficiency of Retransmissions for Voice LTE(2020-01-01) ;Hsu, Chia-An ;Lin, Kate Ching-Ju ;Ren, Yi ;Tseng, Yu-Chee資訊工程學系The emergence of voice over LTE enables voice traffic transmissions over 4G packet-switched networks. Since voice traffic is characterized by its small payload and frequent transmissions, the corresponding control channel overhead would be high. Semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) is hence proposed in LTE-A to reduce such overhead. However, as wireless channels typically fluctuate, tremendous retransmissions due to poor channel conditions, which are still scheduled dynamically, would lead to a large overhead. To reduce the control message overhead caused by SPS retransmissions, we propose a new SPS retransmission protocol. Different from traditional SPS, which removes the downlink control indicators (DCI) directly, we compress some key fields of all retransmissions' DCIs in the same subframe as a fixed-length hint. Thus, the base station does not need to send this information to different users individually but just announces the hint as a broadcast message. In this way, we reduce the signaling overhead and at the same time, preserve the flexibility of dynamic scheduling. Our simulation results show that, by enabling DCI compression, our design improves signaling efficiency by 2.16x, and the spectral utilization can be increased by up to 60%.Item type:Item, Traffic-Aware Beam Selection and Resource Allocation for 5G NR(2020-01-01) ;Liu, Yu-Hsuan ;Lin, Kate Ching-Ju ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer Science3GPP has been defining 5G New Radio (NR), a new radio access technology, to enhance flexibility, scalability, and efficiency of 5G networks. An increasing data rate can be achieved by leveraging antenna arrays to adaptively form multiple directional beams and serve geo-distributed user equipments (UEs) concurrently. However, the imperfect beam pattern of an antenna array may create side lobes, leading to inter-user interference. While most recent research focuses on beam selection that mitigates inter-user interference and maximizes the sum rate, we, however, notice that the selected beams may not be fully utilized. The root cause is that only a fixed set of beams can be configured at a time to serve a wide frequency band but some resource blocks (i.e., subcarriers) may not be able to be allocated to any UEs due to limited traffic demands. To address such inefficiency, this paper presents traffic-aware joint beam configuration and resource allocation, which explicitly considers UEs' traffic demands and configures beams that can be optimally utilized in all the RBs (i.e., the operational frequency band). Our simulation results show that our traffic-aware allocation configures beams with better utilization and achieve an effective throughput much higher than conventional maximal capacity configuration.Item type:Item, Smart Shopping Carts Based on Mobile Computing and Deep Learning Cloud Services(2020-01-01) ;Sarwart, Muhammad Atif ;Daraghmi, Yousef-Awwad ;Liu, Kuan-Wen ;Chi, Hong-ChuanIk, Tsi-UiSelf-checkout systems enable retailers to reduce costs and customers to process their purchases quickly without waiting in queues. However, existing self-checkout systems suffer from design problems as they require large hardware consisting of a camera, sensors, RFID and other IoT technologies which increases the cost of such systems. Therefore, we propose a smart shopping cart with self-checkout, called iCart, to improve customer's experience at retail stores by enabling just walk out checkout and overcome the aforementioned problems. iCart is based on mobile cloud computing and deep learning cloud services. In iCart, a checkout event video is captured and sent to the cloud server for classification and segmentation where an item is identified and added to the shopping list. The Linux based cloud server contained the yolov2 deep learning network. iCart is a lightweight system of low cost solution which is suitable for the small-scale retail stores. The system is evaluated using real-world checkout video, and the accuracy of the shopping event detection and item recognition is about 97%.Item type:Item, Throughput Performance Study of Smart Antenna System in WiFi Networks(2020-01-01) ;Chiu, Hsin-Li ;Wu, Sau-Hsuan ;Chao, Hsi-Lu ;網路工程研究所電信工程研究所The throughput performance of smart antenna systems (SASs) in WiFi networks is studied in this work. Considering a WiFi network whose access points (APs) support the switched-beam SAS, a beam switching strategy which is compatible with the legacy WiFi protocol is proposed to enhance more concurrent links by allowing APs directionally sensing and accessing the wireless channel. The throughput advantage is verified by the simulation results in random deployment scenarios. More importantly, the proposed beam switching strategy provides extra design factors to adjust or balance the downlink and uplink throughput per WiFi user to meet the requirements of various applications and scenarios.Item type:Item, Balanced Noise Design of Dual-Band 2.4/5-GHz pHEMT LNAs(2020-01-01) ;Meng, Chinchun ;Chang, Wei-Ling ;Hsiao, Yu-Chih ;Li, Meng-CheChien, Hsin-YiThis paper presents dual-band 2.4/5-GHz dual-band pHEMT LNAs based on a balanced noise design approach using 0.15 m pHEMT technology. A dual-band LNA has two input match frequencies without simultaneous noise match at these two frequencies especially when the extrinsic loss caused by the inductor is absent. Noise parameters as a function of frequencies for a dual-band FET LNA based on the balanced noise performance are developed. The fully integrated pHEMT LNA achieves power gain of 18 dB at 2.4 GHz and 12 dB at 5 GHz and noise figure about 3 dB at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, respectively, at 12.6 mA and 3 V. The pHEMT LNA with a bondwire inductor at input match demonstrates a distinct balanced noise performance.Item type:Item, Strain-reduced and Photoluminescence Enhanced of MoS2 Emitters on Three-Dimensional Substrate(2020-01-01) ;Lee, Andrew Boyi ;Chang, Chiao-Yun ;Lin, Hsiang-Ting ;Lai, Ming-ShengYu, Cheng-LiTwo-dimensional (2D) atomic transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have distinct emission properties, which can be applied for ultrathin detectors and light-emitters in the future. In this study, strain and photoluminescence of MoS2 monolayer on a 3D substrate through a two-step growth procedure was analyzed. The structural of materials and those optical properties of monolayer TMDCs fabricated on the planar and nonplanar substrate were examined. Monolayer MoS2 grown on the nonplanar substrate exhibited uniform strain reduction and luminescence intensity. The fabrication of monolayer MoS2 on a nonplanar substrate increased the light extraction efficiency. In the future, strain-reduced 2D TMDC materials grown on a nonplanar substrate can be employed as novel light-emitting devices for applications in light-emitters, communication, and displays for ultrathin optoelectronic integrated systems.Item type:Item, A procedure for power consumption estimation of multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle(2020-01-01) ;Chan, C. W. ;Kam, T. Y. ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringUnmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have the potential to find many commercial applications, which may require relatively long mission times. Therefore, it is important to make UAVs that can complete the mission in an efficient and power saving way. To achieve a prescribed flight mission, a UAV has to perform a number of maneuvers/movements, which will consume a certain amount of power. To maximize the cruising time, not only the power source is able to provide enough amount of power to the UAV but also the parts of the UAV can perform efficiently to save power. Before the minimum power capacity can be determined, it is required that the power consumptions of the UAV parts for the required mission be evaluated in a proper way. In this paper, a procedure is presented to estimate the power consumption of a composite UAV. The configuration as well as the fabrication of the UAV using truss-type parts made of carbon strand/epoxy composite material will be briefly introduced. The power consumptions of the propeller system and electric parts will be evaluated in a systematic way. Experiments were conducted to verify the theoretical predictions. Flight tests were also performed to study the power consumption of the UAV and the suitability of the proposed procedure for power consumption calculation.
