Item type:Item, Reproducible and Bendable SERS Substrates with Tailored Wettability Using Block Copolymers and Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates(1970-01-01) ;Lin, Yu-Liang ;Karapala, Vamsi Krishna ;Shen, Ming-Hui ;Chen, Yi-FanHe, Hung-ChiehSurface properties are essential for substrates exhibiting high sensitivity in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications. In this work, novel SERS hybrid substrates using polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) and anodic aluminum oxide templates is presented. The hybrid substrates not only possess hierarchical porous nanostructures but also exhibit superhydrophilic surface properties with the water contact angle approximate to 0 degrees. Such surfaces play an important role in providing uniform enhanced intensities over large areas (relative standard deviation approximate to 10%); moreover, these substrates are found to be highly sensitive (limit of detection approximate to 10(-12) m for rhodamine 6G (R6G)). The results show that the hybrid SERS substrates can achieve the simultaneous detection of multicomponent mixtures of different target molecules, such as R6G, crystal violet, and methylene blue. Furthermore, the bending experiments show that about 70% of the SERS intensities are maintained after bending from approximate to 30 degrees to 150 degrees.Item type:Item, Preparation of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-containing block copolymer with well-controlled stereoregularity(1970-01-01) ;Tsai, Sung-Yu ;Kuretani, Satoshi ;Manabe, Kei ;Terao, ToshikiKomamura, TakahiroPreparation of functional domains with a spacing of 10 nm is a benchmark set to fabricate next-generation electronic devices. Organic-inorganic block copolymers form well-ordered microphase separations with very small domain sizes. The design and preparation of a novel block copolymer consisting of syndiotactic polymethyl methacrylate (st-PMMA) and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-functionalized polymethacrylate, designated as st-PMMA-b-PMAPOSS, which can recognize functional molecules, are reported. The st-PMMA segments form a helical structure and encapsulate C-60 in the helical nanocavity, leading to the formation of an inclusion complex. Although the ordering of the domains is not high, C-60 domains that are in a quasi-equilibrium state, with about 10-nm domain spacings, are generated using st-PMMA-b-PMAPOSS that can recognize functional molecules. Chem. 2019Item type:Item, Shaping the Light: The Key Factors Affecting the Photophysical Properties of Fluorescent Polymer Nanostructures(2016-12) ;Chi, Mu-Huan ;Su, Chun-Hsien ;Cheng, Ming-Hsiang ;Chung, Pei-YunPeng, Chi-HowTo manipulate the functions of nanomaterials more precisely for diverse applications, the controllability and critical influencing factors of their properties must be thoroughly investigated. In this work, the macroscopic and microscopic effects are studied on the photophysical properties of various pyrene-ended poly(styrene-block-methyl methacrylate) nanostructures. Fluorescent polymer nanospheres, nanorods, and nanotubes are prepared by different template-based methods using anodic aluminum oxide membranes. Chain arrangements and conformations are determined as the key factors affecting the photophysical properties of the fluorescent polymer nanostructures. This work not only gives a deeper understanding of the effects on the photophysical properties of polymer nanomaterials influenced by morphologies, chain arrangements, and chain conformations, but also provides a reference for designing proper fluorescent nanostructures for specific applications.Item type:Item, Block Copolymer Micelle Nanotubes by the Solvent-Annealing-Induced Nanowetting in Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates(2015-11-01) ;Yao, I-Chun ;Cheng, Ming-Hsiang ;Chen, Jiun-Tai ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryBlock copolymer micelles are generally formed by the self-assembly of amphiphilic copolymer molecules in aqueous medium. Although different types of block copolymer micelles have been studied, the self-assembly behavior of block copolymer micelles in confined geometries have been rarely studied. In this work, the fabrication of polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) micelle nanotubes in the cylindrical nanopores of anodic aluminum oxide templates using a solvent-annealing-assisted wetting method is presented. The PS-b-P4VP chains wet the pore walls in the form of micelles when the sample is annealed in the vapor of toluene, a good solvent for PS and a nonsolvent for P4VP. The formation of the PS-b-P4VP micelle nanotubes instead of nanorods implies that the micelles wet the nanopores in the complete wetting regime. This study not only contributes to a deeper understanding of the self-assembly behavior of block polymer micelles in confined geometries, but also provides more possible variations and design freedoms in the application of block copolymer micelles.Item type:Item, Thin-Film Composite Materials as a Dielectric Layer for Flexible Metal-Insulator-Metal Capacitors(2010) ;Tiwari, Jitendra N. ;Meena, Jagan Singh ;Wu, Chung-Shu ;Tiwari, Rajanish N.Chu, Min-ChingA new organic-organic nanoscale composite thin-film (NCTF) dielectric has been synthesized by solution deposition of 1-bromoadamantane and triblock copolymer (Pluronic P123, BASF, EO(20)-PO(70)-EO(20)), in which the precursor solution has been achieved with organic additives. We have used a sol-gel process to make a metal-insulator-metal capacitor (MIM) comprising a nanoscale (10 nm-thick) thin-film on a flexible polyimide (PI) substrate at room temperature. Scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope revealed that the deposited NCTFs were crack-free, uniform, highly resistant to moisture absorption, and well adhered on the Au-Cr/PI. The electrical properties of 1-bromoadamantane-P123 NCTF were characterized by dielectric constant, capacitance, and leakage current measurements. The 1-bromoadamantane-P123 NCTF on the PI substrate showed a low leakage current density of 5.5 x 10(-11) A cm(-2) and good capacitance of 2.4 fF at 1 MHz. In addition, the calculated dielectric constant of 1-bromoadamantane-P123 NCTF was 1.9, making them suitable candidates for use in future flexible electronic devices as a stable intermetal dielectric. The electrical insulating properties of 1-bromoadamantane-P123 NCTF have been improved due to the optimized dipole moments of the van der Waals interactions.
