Fix power allocation and successive interference cancellation (SIC) algorithms are realized. The power ratio between different users, transmission distance, network cell coverage are investigated. The proposed scheme is also compared with the HS based direct-current optical (DCO)-OFDM NOMA-VLC system.Item type:Item, Optical Wireless Communications using Visible LED(2015-01-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Yeh, Chien-Hung ;Liu, Yang ;光電工程學系光電工程研究所The improvements of power efficiency and cost reduction enable light emitting diode (LED) to be deployed in a variety of applications. LED can be switched on and off at a relatively high speed than the conventional lighting sources; hence it is possible to use LED as transmitter for optical wireless communication (OWC). In this talk, we will discuss different schemes to enhance the transmission capacity of OWC. We will also discuss some methods to mitigate the background optical noises. In addition, we will highlight different specific applications of OWC, such as positioning, optical beam forming, etc ...Item type:Item, Passive Optical Receiver for Visible Light Communication (VLC)(2015-01-01) ;Chen, Hung-Yu ;Liang, Kevin ;Chen, Chung-Yen ;Chen, Shih-HaoChow, Chi-WaiWe demonstrate using solar cell as optical receiver (Rx) for visible light communication (VLC). The solar cell is low cost and can convert the VLC optical signal into electrical signal without external power supply. As the response of the solar cell is very limited; we also propose and demonstrate using predistortion to significantly enhance the response of the solar cell Rx. A VLC capacity of 0.4 Mbit/s at bit-error-rate (BER) of 10(-9) under wireless transmission distance of 75 cm; and a capacity of 0.3 Mbit/s at BER of 10-9 under wireless transmission distance of 125 cm can be achieved.Item type:Item, Adaptive Thresholding Scheme for Demodulation of Rolling-Shutter Images Obtained in CMOS Image Sensor Based Visible Light Communications(2018-12-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Liu, Yen-Chun ;Shiu, Ruei-Jie ;Yeh, Chien-Hung光電工程學系Light-emitting-diode transmitter and complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor receiver based visible light communication is a promising scheme for an optical wireless communication. During the demodulation of the rolling shutter pattern obtained from the CMOS image sensor Rx, due to the high signal fluctuation introduced by the uneven light exposure, special thresholding schemes are needed to correctly identify the data logic. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a modified adaptive scheme (MQA) for the demodulation of the rolling shutter pattern. Experimental bit-errorratio (BER) measurements using different thresholding schemes at different illuminance are analyzed. The results show that the proposed MQA scheme can provide much lower BER, with similar process latencies when compared with other schemes.Item type:Item, Decoding CMOS Rolling-Shutter Pattern in Translational or Rotational Motions for VLC(2019-04-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Li, Zhi-Qing ;Chuang, Yu-Cheng ;Liao, Xin-LanLin, Kun-HsienWe propose and demonstrate a CMOS rolling-shutter pattern decoding scheme based on two newly introduced schemes, named row grayscale redistribution and differential grayscale packet selection to improve the performance in decoding the CMOS rolling-shutter pattern in translational or rotational motions. Results show that even the CMOS image sensor is in translational or rotational motions, no significant signal degradation is observed at wireless transmission distance up to 150 cm. The maximum visible light communication data rate at different wireless transmission distances is also analyzed.Item type:Item, Demonstration of High Speed Imaging 3x3 MIMO-OFDM Visible Light Communication System(2016-01-01) ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Lu, I-Cheng ;Liu, Yen-Liang ;Yeh, Chien-HungChow, Chi-WaiWe experimentally demonstrate the 3x3 imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) system, using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation and bit-loading, a total data rate > 800-Mbit/s over 1-m transmission is achieved without using blue-filter.Item type:Item, Bidirectional Visible Light Communication System Using a Single VCSEL With Predistortion to Enhance the Upstream Remodulation(2018-06-01) ;Wei, Liang-Yu ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Hsu, Chin-Wei ;Yeh, Chien-Hung光電工程學系The demand of higher data rates has made it attractive to consider a low-cost laser diode (LD), such as vertical-cavity-surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) for use in visible light communication (VLC) transmitters (Tx) due to their higher electrical-to-optical modulation bandwidth, beam convergence, and energy efficiency. Many reported LD-based VLC systems only had a solitary downstream transmission. We demonstrate a 3-m bidirectional signal remodulated VCSEL-based VLC system using visible-light modulator to produce the upstream signal. The visible-light external modulator usually has limited modulation bandwidth. By using the predistortion, the upstream remodulated data rate is enhanced by similar to 2.8 times. Hence, the VCSEL-based VLC system with 10.64-Gb/s downstream signal and 5-Mb/s upstream remodulated signal can be achieved. We also analyze via numerical simulations how the predistorted signal can enhance the transmission data rate by mitigating the intersymbol interference introduced by the bandwidth limitation of the upstream modulator.Item type:Item, Secure Mobile-Phone Based Visible Light Communications With Different Noise-Ratio Light-Panel(2018-04-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Shiu, Ruei-Jie ;Liu, Yen-Chun ;Yeh, Chien-HungLiao, Xin-LanWe propose and demonstrate a visible light communication (VLC) system using a light-panel and a mobile-phone camera. We also propose the rolling-shutter-effect (RSE) pattern synchronization and demodulation algorithms. By using our developed mobile-phone application program, the RSE pattern can be demodulated even at very low illuminance. As the light-panel will have different advertisements on it, we also define a noise-ratio (NR) as the figure-of-merit; hence, different VLC data rates can be adjusted according to different advertisement NR values. Experimental bit error rate measurements at different free-space transmission distances and different NRs are performed.Item type:Item, Pre-Distortion Scheme to Enhance the Transmission Performance of Organic Photo-Detector (OPD) Based Visible Light Communication (VLC)(2018-01-01) ;Chow, Chi-Wai ;Wang, Hao-Yu ;Chen, Chao-Hsuan ;Zan, Hsiao-WenYeh, Chien-HungOrganic photo-detector (OPD) is lightweight and physically flexible. It can transform plastic or glass into smart surfaces. Visible light communication (VLC) is considered as one of the promising technologies for the future wireless communications. VLC combines the advantages of lighting and communication simultaneously. Besides, it can be deployed using existing lighting infrastructure; hence little extra cost is needed to provide this wireless communication. As the OPD has a large optical detection area, it would be interesting to employ the OPD as VLC receiver (Rx). If the OPD can be used in the VLC systems, it can benefit the Internet-of-Thing (IoT) networks by providing efficient human-to-machine and machine to-machine communications. However, implementing VLC using OPD Rx is challenging. Due to the slow charging and discharging processes of the OPD, the optical-to-electrical response speed is limited. Besides, the OPD requires external bias to be operated. Here, we propose and demonstrate using pre-distortion scheme for pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) signal to a self-powered PCBM:P3HT OPD to enhance the VLC transmission performance. The operation of the self-powered PCBM:P3HT OPD is discussed. Both experiments using PAM-2 and PAM-4 (with and without pre-distortion) are evaluated. The performance, requirement and capability limitations of the pre-distortion schemes are also analyzed and discussed by using numerical simulations.
