Item type:Item, MOEMS Vibration Sensor with Organic Semiconductor Readout(2016-01-01) ;Kainz, A. ;Hortschitz, W. ;Steiner, H. ;Hong, Yi-HongChen, Chao-HsuanWe present a first proof of principle of applying organic semiconductors as key components in micro-mechanical vibration sensors. The mechanical part of the MOEMS sensor readout is etched into the device layer of an SOI chip and consists of a laterally deflecting inertial mass that features a two-dimensional grid of rectangular holes. An identical grid is evaporated onto a glass chip bonded onto the silicon chip in such way that any deflection of the seismic mass will modulate the light flux passing through the device. The light flux is provided in this case by an OLED and detected by an OPD. It is shown with a proof of concept device that for such sensors organic optoelectronics can replace inorganic ones, which is the starting point for developing a variety of MOEMS sensors based on printed optoelectronic devices. Adm-TPD and Adm-NPD, which contain a spiro(adamantane-2,9-fluorene) core, have been synthesized and characterized. We believe that because of the presence of the rigid spiro-fluorene core, these triaryldiamines exhibit higher glass transition temperatures and have a less tendency to crystallize relative to their biphenyl analogs. Additionally, electrochemical studies showed that the planarity of the fluorene core leads to lower ionization potentials and greater degrees of pi conjugation between the two amino groups. AFM measurements demonstrated that high-quality amorphous films of Adm-NPD with good morphological stability were prepared by vapor deposition. Electroluminescent devices using Adm-NPD as a hole-transporting layer-i.e., having the configuration ITO/Adm-NPD/Alq(3)/LiF/Al-emit a bright green light that is characteristic of Alq(3). The architecture of the device used in the experiment is Indium-Tin-Oxid (ITO)/CuPc/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/Mg:Alq(3)/WO3/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/LiF/Al. We found the efficiency of the two-unit devices can be controllable by the thickness Of WO3. The two-unit devices with 1-nm-thick WO3 produces the luminance efficiency of 49.2 cd/A at 20 mA/cm(2), which is around four times that of the controlled single-unit device (ITO/CuPc/NPB/C545T:Alq(3)/Alq(3)/LiF/Al). Compared with reported research data, the "amplification effect" discovered in our device is a rather unexpected result. The external quantum efficiency of 12.6%, with near-saturated Commission Internationale d'Eclairage coordinates (CIEx = 0.27, CIEy = 0.68), is one of the best ever reported for a fluorescent dye-doped OLED. We also demonstrate that the electron injection layer of Mg:Alq(3) is a necessary component for the enhancement of EL efficiency. These results may prove to be an effective method to enhance the efficiency as well as the lifetime of current OLEDs.Item type:Item, Fluorene-based oxadiazoles: thermally stable electron-transporting materials for light-emitting devices(2005-01-31) ;Wu, FI ;Shu, CF ;Chien, CH ;Tao, YT應用化學系We have synthesized and characterized a series of fluorene-based oxadiazole derivatives, in each of which two identical oxadiazole moieties are linked to a fluorene unit via an sp(3)-hybridized carbon atom (C-9) to form a rigid, nonplanar structure. This structural feature leads to a reduction in the tendency to crystallize and an increase in the glass transition temperature. Electrochemical studies revealed that these materials undergo reversible reductions and have high electron affinities. Each fluorene-based oxadiazole exhibited reasonably good performance when it was used as the electron-transporting layer in a multi-layer organic EL device. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. At high rubrene or ADN concentration (>60%), this DCJTB doped CHE system has the advantage of alleviating the current-induced fluorescence quenching problem often encountered in red organic electroluminescence (EL) devices and greatly improves the EL efficiency over a wide range of drive current conditions. The presence of the rigid spirobifluorene linkage imparts significant improvement in the material's glass transition temperature and morphological stability, while preserving most of the photophysical and electronic properties of its non-spiro, biphenyl analogue, DPVBi. Organic electroluminescent devices having the structure ITO/NPB/DPVSBF/AlQ/LiF/Al display bright emissions with a lambda(max) at 474 nm (CIE coordinates: 0.16, 0.24) and exhibit maximum luminescence exceeding 40,000 cd/m(2). At a driving current density of 100 mAcm(2) (6.4 V), a luminance of 4110 cd/m(2) was obtained with external quantum efficiency of 2.54%, luminance efficiency of 4.1 cd/A, and power efficiency of 2.0 lm/W. Moreover, the DPVSBF-based device exhibits a 16-fold enhancement in the operation lifetime relative to that of a similar device based on DPVBi. (C) 2005 Elsevier B.V. As applied voltage was larger than the built-in voltage, the capacitance is augmented by diffusion capacitance with increasing the forward bias voltage. In contrast, the capacitance dropped quickly. It is possibly due to the voltage drop in the bulk and conductivity modulation occurred by high carrier concentration for much higher forward biases, eventually showing negative for two-layer OLEDs. We infer that the phenomena were resulted from the extremely thin OLED structure, just like short p-n semiconductor diodes. This diffusion capacitance exhibiting like short-diode behavior also can be measured in C-V curves of single-layer structure OLED. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Cyclopentane-containing cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes are rarely found in the literature. This inspired us to investigate the electroluminescence (EL) of these complexes. This work involves a systematic study for observing the color tuning of the iridium(III) complexes by choosing a predesigned cyclometalated ligand with substituents exhibiting different electronic properties. The tuning of maximum emission wavelengths depending on the extent of conjugation and/or ring size and also the effect of a hetero atom are discussed.
