The effective balance of V/III ratio determines the change of InSb NW crystal structure from zincblende to wurtzite. Particularly, as group-V molar flow varies from 6.4 x 10(-5) to 8.0 x 10(-5) mol/min, wurtzite segment length of InSb NW increases from 16 +/- 9 nm to 89 +/- 9 nm, whereas zincblende crystal phase is observed for other molar flows. We interpret the observed phase transition to a lower surface energy of In-Sb alloy droplet than pure In-droplet, which makes triple phase line nucleation energetically favorable. This study gives insight on single growth parameter (V/III ratio) change to the InSb NW crystal control, such a technique is essential to selectively tune the crystal phase of single NW for various applications.Item type:Item, Rapid removal of sulfamethoxazole from simulated water matrix by visible-light responsive iodine and potassium co-doped graphitic carbon nitride photocatalysts(2018-11-01) ;Paragas, Larah Kriselle B. ;de Luna, Mark Daniel G. ;Doong, Ruey-An ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringAn environment-friendly iodine and potassium co-doped g-C3N4 (IK-C3N4) photocatalyst was synthesized via the co-pyrolysis of urea and potassium iodate. Various characterization techniques were employed to evaluate the physical, thermal and chemical characteristics of the as-synthesized photo catalyst. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) was used as a representative antibiotic pollutant. SMX removal by IK-C3N4 photocatalysts exceeded 99% (similar to 23 times higher than that of pure g-C3N4) within 45 min of visible light irradiation. The kinetics of SMX removal was analyzed with respect to solution pH, photocatalyst dosage and initial SMX concentration. Experimental data was found to fit the pseudo-first order kinetics and the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics. The reuse of the photocatalyst up to 3 consecutive photo degradation cycles gave a minimal decline in SMX removal while the structure and the crystallinity of the nanomaterials remained unchanged. Overall, morphology engineering of conventional bulk graphitic carbon nitride can produce highly efficient photocatalysts for the decontamination of antibiotics in the aqueous environment. Scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy, selected-area electron diffraction, Raman spectra and powder X-ray analyses indicate that V2O5 nanowires as synthesized were single-crystalline and grew anisotropically among direction [010]. NH2OH center dot HCl served not only as a reducing agent to produce vanadium polyoxometalate clusters but also as a source of NH3 gas to facilitate the vapor pyrolysis and deposition. The optical properties of V2O5 nanowires exhibit a character dependent on structure. Field emission (FE) measurements show a small turn-on field voltage similar to 8.3V/mu m, maximum Current density 1.8 mA/cm(2), and a linear Fowler-Nordheim behavior. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. Careful selections of InSb growth parameters lead to In-rich growth regime such that direct impingement of growth precursors on top of grown InAs NW (self-assembled) stems result in axial InSb HSs nucleation on InAs stems. The observed indium (In) droplet on InSb HS NW tip shows that InSb HS growth followed a self-catalyzed growth mechanism. InSb HS axial growth rate and morphology are controlled by growth temperature and growth time. A small change in the growth parameters significantly affects In particle accumulation, particle size and its chemical composition, and thus affects the InSb nucleation on the stem. Especially, it is found that (i) growth time of less 10 min yields vertical InSb HS NW on the top of the InAs stem, (ii) as the growth time increases above 10 min, the growth turned to be InSb wrapped InAs/InSb core-shell HS due to coaxial lateral growth. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) study reveals that all the InSb HSs exhibit pure zinc-blende (ZB) crystal structure. The results presented here provide significant guidelines for external catalyst-free InAs/InSb HS NW growth using MOCVD on silicon (Si) substrate for various optoelectronics and electronics applications.Item type:Item, Temperature effect on the growth of Au-free InAs and InAs/GaSb heterostructure nanowires on Si substrate by MOCVD(2018-05-15) ;Kakkerla, Ramesh Kumar ;Anandan, Deepak ;Hsiao, Chih-Jen ;Yu, Hung WeiSingh, Sankalp KumarWe demonstrate the growth of vertically aligned Au-free InAs and InAs/GaSb heterostructure nanowires on Si (1 1 1) substrate by Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD). The effect of growth temperature on the morphology and growth rate of the InAs and InAs/GaSb heterostructure nanowires (NWs) is investigated. Control over diameter and length of the InAs NWs and the GaSb shell thickness was achieved by using growth temperature. As the GaSb growth temperature increase, GaSb radial growth rate increases due to the increase in alkyl decomposition at the substrate surface. Diffusivity of the adatoms increases as the GaSb growth temperature increase which results in tapered GaSb shell growth. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) measurements revealed that the morphology and shell thickness can be tuned by the growth temperature. Electron microscopy also shows the formation of GaSb both in radial and axial directions outside the InAs NW core can be controlled by the growth temperature. This study demonstrates the control over InAs NWs growth and the GaSb shell thickness can be achieved through proper growth temperature control, such technique is essential for the growth of nanowire for future nano electronic devices, such as Tunnel FET. The paper presents comparison between the parameters of polarization holographic gratings recorded in a pure azopolymer PAZO (Poly[1-[4(3-carboxy-4-hydroxyphenylazo) benzenesulfonamido]1,2-ethanediyl, sodium salt]) and in a hybrid PAZO-based organic/inorganic material with incorporated ZnO nanoparticles of size less than 50 nm. Laser emitting at 491 nm is used for the holographic recording. Along with the anisotropic grating in the volume of the media, surface relief is also formed. Gratings with different spatial frequencies are obtained by varying the recording angle. The time dependence of the diffraction efficiency is probed at 635 nm and the height of the relief gratings is determined by AFM. Our results indicate that both the diffraction efficiency and the height of the surface relief for the hybrid samples are enhanced with respect to the pure azopolymer films. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. To minimize complications such as organ degeneration, diabetic patients are required to undergo treatments to maintain the blood glucose level in the normal range, ideally mimicking normal insulin secretion. The normal physiological insulin secretion pattern in healthy individuals consists of a base (basal) level through the day and increased secretion after meals (bolus insulin). Thus effective treatments may combine long acting, low-level insulin therapy with boosts of short acting insulin and/or oral agents. To achieve long term management of basal insulin level, an injectable insulin-loaded gel composed of self-assembled nanoparticles from carboxymethyl-hexanoyl chitosan (CHC) and integrated lysozyme for controlled biodegradation and insulin release was developed. In vitro characterizations and evaluations confirmed that lysozyme was active on CHC and that the amount of lysozyme in a CHC hydrogel determined the degradation and insulin release rate. The degradation products were found to be highly cytocompatible using a cell assay. In vivo evaluation of the system in a diabetic mouse model revealed that the fasted blood glucose level could be maintained in the normal range for 10 days with a single injection of insulin-loaded CHC-lysozyme gel. The insulin-loaded CHC-lysozyme gels clearly show promise for use as a novel injectable long-acting insulin delivery system, with potential to manage the basal insulin level for many days with a single injection. C. ;Tsou, M. H.Yang, C. S.Self-assembled type-II ZnTe quantum dots (QDs) were grown on GaAs (0 0 1) substrates with Zn1-xMgxSe (x=0.24 and 0.52) buffer layers by molecular beam epitaxy. The optical properties of ZnTe QDs were investigated by low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved PL. An abrupt variation of the PL peak energy with coverage implies the existence of wetting layer of 3.2 MLs and 40 MLs for the Mg concentration x=0.24 and 0.52, respectively. The thickness of wetting layer is larger than that of Zaire QDs grown on ZnSe buffer layers because the strain between ZaTe and Zn1-xMgxSe is smaller. The non-mono-exponential decay profiles reflect the processes of carrier transfer and recapture. The Kohlrausch\'s stretching exponential well fits the decay profiles of ZaTe/Zn1-xMgxSe QDs. H.The sigma(+) and sigma(-) circularly polarized time-integrated and time-resolved Photoluminescence (PL) measurements were employed to investigate the carrier spin dynamics of ZnMnTe/ZnSe Quantum Dots (QDs) grown on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The Kohlrausch's stretching exponential function well correlates both the sigma(+) and sigma(-) decay profiles. The measured spin relaxation time is about 23 ns. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
