Item type:Item, Optical Properties of Plasmonic Mirror-Image Nanoepsilon(2016-07-12) ;Lin, Jia-Yu ;Tsai, Chia-Yang ;Lin, Pin-Tso ;Hsu, Tse-EnHsiao, Chi-FanWe propose a novel mirror-image nanoepsilon (MINE) structure to achieve highly localized and enhanced near field at its gap and systematically investigate its plasmonic behaviors. The MINE can be regarded as a combination of two fundamental plasmonic nanostructures: a nanorod dimer and nanoring. By adapting a nanoring surrounding a nanorod dimer structure, the nanorod is regarded as a bridge pulling the charges from the nanoring to the nanorod, which induces stronger plasmon coupling in the gap to boost local near-field enhancement. Two resonance peaks are identified as the symmetric and anti-symmetric modes according to the symmetries of the charge distributions on the ring and rod dimer in the MINE. The symmetric mode in the MINE structure is preferred because its charge distribution leads to stronger near-field enhancement with a concentrated distribution around the gap. In addition, we investigate the influence of geometry on the optical properties of MINE structures by performing experiments and simulations. These results indicate that the MINE possesses highly tunable optical properties and that significant near-field enhancement at the gap region and rod tips can be realized by the gap and lightning-rod effects. The results improve understanding of such complex systems, and it is expected to guide and facilitate the design of optimum MINE structures for various plasmonic applications.Item type:Item, In situ TEM investigation of dynamical changes of nanostructures(2010-11-22) ;Chen, L. J. ;Wu, W. W. ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringIn situ investigation of the temperature induced phase transformation, structural and chemical evolution of nanocrystals is important for understanding the structure and stability of nanomaterials. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), one of the most powerful tools for characterizing nanostructured materials, is essential for the development of nanotechnology. In situ TEM is a technique that allows a direct observation of dynamic properties in nanoscale. Recent development of ultra-high vacuum TEM (UHV-TEM) further enables the investigation on atomic-scale materials systems in a clean environment. The appropriate utilization of the UHV-TEM will be beneficial in studying the fundamental mechanisms of dynamic reactions, formation of transient phase, solid-state amorphization, epitaxial growth, growth kinetics and evolution of defects. In this paper, we present the most recent progress in observing dynamic processes in nanoscale by in situ UHV-TEM. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. The different additives (such as 1,3-diaminopropane and polyethyleneimine) can be used to control the morphology of ZnO nanostructures. ZnO nanowires exhibit very prominent green emission and week UV emission from defect and band gap in the cathodoluminescence spectrum, respectively. The different morphology of ZnO nanostructures on the stainless steel mesh substrates can be used to irradiate UV light for the photocatalytic degradation of four kinds of organic pollutants, such as methylene blue, rhodamine 6G, methyl orange, and 4-nitrophenol. The ZnO nanowires can provide a higher surface-to-volume ratio and stronger defect emission, resulting in their highest photocatalytic performance in 10 W UV light irradiation. The ZnO nanowire arrays on the stainless steel mesh substrates provide a large-scale, facile, low-cost, high surface area, and high photocatalytic efficiency, which shall be of significant value for practical applications of the decomposition of environment pollutants and reusing of wastewater treatment. By using periodical growth interrupts, precise coverage control can be achieved for GaSb QD growth by using a single Ga source. With direct As irradiation to the substrate surface during the post soaking time, the soaking time can be effectively reduced while full ring morphologies and room-temperature QR luminescence can still be obtained by using this method. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nitrogen absorption desorption isotherm, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Our results showed that the MnWO4/SBA-15 nanocomposites have the ordered hexagonal meso-structure of SBA-15, indicating MnWO4 nanoparticles were successfully distributed into the channels of SBA-15. The size of MnW04 nanoparticles in SBA-15 is significantly smaller than the size of MnWO4 nanoparticles prepared without SBA-15, indicating that the MnWO4/SBA15 nanocomposites would be very promising for improving photocatalytic activity of MnWO4 nanoparticles. L.We show that by using different x-ray irradiation times of BSA-coated Au nanoparticles (NPs) we can change their ultraviolet-stimulated photoluminescence and shift the spectral weight over the visible spectral range. This is due to the interplay of two emission bands, one due to BSA and the other related to gold. The emission properties did not change with time over a period of several months. C. ;Lee, S. J. ;Kao, C. Y. ;Chen, W. K.Chou, W. C.High density InN/GaN nanodots were grown by pulsed mode (PM) metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). InN nanodots density of up to similar to 5 x 10(10) cm(-2) at a growth temperature of 550 degrees C was achieved. The high diffusion activation energy of 2.65 eV due to high NH(3) flow rate generated more reactive nitrogen adatoms on the growth surface, and is believed to be the main reason for the growth of high density InN nanodots. In addition, an anomalous temperature dependence of the PL peak energy was observed for high density InN nanodots. The high carrier concentration, due to high In vacancy (V(ln)) in the InN nanodots, thermally agitated to the conduction band. As the measurement temperature increased, the increase of Fermi energy resulted in blue-shifted PL peak energy. From the Arrhenius plot of integrated PL intensity, the thermal activation energy for the PM grown InN nanodots was estimated to be E(a)similar to 51 meV, indicating strong localization of carriers in the high density InN nanodots. H.The sigma(+) and sigma(-) circularly polarized time-integrated and time-resolved Photoluminescence (PL) measurements were employed to investigate the carrier spin dynamics of ZnMnTe/ZnSe Quantum Dots (QDs) grown on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The Kohlrausch's stretching exponential function well correlates both the sigma(+) and sigma(-) decay profiles. The measured spin relaxation time is about 23 ns. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
