This study proposes a new multiwavelength OLED-OPD flexible PPG sensor with a time-interleaved, optimal high order adaptive analog filter-based readout system for the longtime continuous monitoring of PPG signal. First time, temperature modulation of the light absorption and scattering coefficient of the human skin and its compensation strategy has been explored in this study. This study intended to minimize the issue like motion artifacts and mispositioning. Analog front end of the readout circuit incorporates a transimpedance amplifier, optimal filter, programmable gain amplifier (1x to 7x), PWM-DAC based OLED intensity control, Bluetooth transceiver, MCU with inbuilt ADC and a power management unit. At the backend, digital control and pre-signal processing-algorithm are developed to improve the adaptability of the readout system against non-idealities which enable the readout system for the longtime continuous measurement of the biological sign. Digitally variable resistance is used herein to tune the central frequency of the bandpass filter which helps to minimize low heart rate issue. The sensing range of the readout circuit is 20nA to 10 mu A. With 3.3 V power supply the total power consumption of the readout system is 0.4W. Experimental result shows that the heart rate measurement error is less than 3.4bpm. In the worst case, the measured repulsive pulse transit time (RPTT) variation from PPG cycle to cycle is less than 2%.

Amphiphilic Au nanoparticle-decorated PEGylated graphene oxides (Au@PEG-GO) are used to construct multiple plasmonic nanostructures for enhancing the performance of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Because of the long side-chains of the Au@PEG-GO nanocomposites, the nanoparticles can be well dispersed both in organic and aqueous solvents, allowing them to be incorporated readily into the buffer layers, such as poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and the organic photoactive layers within OLEDs during the soultion processes. Herein, the Au@PEG-GO nanocomposites are blended into either the PEDOT:PSS or the emissive layer of OLEDs to trigger surface plasmonic effects, thereby improving the device efficiencies. The current efficiencies are improved by ca. 20% for both cases. More importantly, the simultaneous addition of the Au@PEG-GO nanocomposites into both layers leads to even pronounced plasmonic effects. Under the optimized condition, the current efficiency is enhanced by up to 38%, suggesting the plasmonic fields from both layers attributed to the device enhancement. We anticipate that the accumulated plasmonic effects originating from the multiple plasmonic nanostructures will open up new avenues for improving the performance of various solution-processed optoelectronic devices involving organic dyes.

Three double tetraphenylethene (TPE)-tethered 4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indance (BODIPY) fluorophores, 35TPEBODP, 88TPEBODP, and 26TPEBODP, have been synthesized and characterized. The green 35TPEBODP with deep red fluorescence shows serious thermal decomposition in the purification process of sublimation, which prohibits its test for an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) fabricated by the vacuum-thermal evaporation process. The tethered TPE is attached to BODIPY at three different positions, resulting in different photoluminescence (emission wavelength and quantum yield) and electroluminescence (EL). Different from TPE-tethered BODIPY fluorophores reported in literature, none of the BODIPY fluorophores studied here exhibits aggregation-induced emission (AIE), aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE), or twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) characteristics. Although solution (10(-5) M THF) photoluminescence quantum yields (phi s) are relatively high at 78%, 68%, and 86% for 35TPEBODP, 88TPEBODP, and 26TPEBODP, respectively, which are all higher than 41% of PhBODP (a non-TPE-tethered BODIPY), the phi is significantly decreased to 1-6% in 5 wt% dopant polystyrene thin film or as a solid powder, except for 13% of 26TPEBODP. Therefore, due to the low phi of dopant thin film or solid powder, either dopant or nondopant OLEDs exhibit inferior external quantum efficiency (EQE) and intensity of EL. The best OLED in this study is the 26TPEBODP device, and its EQE reaches 1.3%, and the highest EL intensity is approximately 1,600 cd/m(2).

We present a first proof of principle of applying organic semiconductors as key components in micro-mechanical vibration sensors. The mechanical part of the MOEMS sensor readout is etched into the device layer of an SOI chip and consists of a laterally deflecting inertial mass that features a two-dimensional grid of rectangular holes. An identical grid is evaporated onto a glass chip bonded onto the silicon chip in such way that any deflection of the seismic mass will modulate the light flux passing through the device. The light flux is provided in this case by an OLED and detected by an OPD. It is shown with a proof of concept device that for such sensors organic optoelectronics can replace inorganic ones, which is the starting point for developing a variety of MOEMS sensors based on printed optoelectronic devices. A new process for modifying a polymeric material for use as a hole injection transport layer in organic light-emitting diodes has been studied, which is through 2 + 2 photodimerization of a DNA-mimetic -conjugated poly(triphenylamine-carbazole) presenting pendent uracil groups (PTC-U) under 1 h of UV irradiation. Multilayer florescence OLED (Organic light-emitting diodes) device with the PTC-U-1hr as a hole injection/transport layer (ITO (Indium tin oxide)/HITL (hole-injection/transport layer) (15 nm)/N,N'-di(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine (NPB) (15 nm)/Tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq(3)) (60 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm)) is fabricated, a remarkable improvement in performance (Q(max) (external quantum efficiency) = 2.65%, B-max (maximum brightness) = 56,704 cd/m(2), and LE (luminance efficiency)(max) = 8.9 cd/A) relative to the control PTC-U (Q(max) = 2.40%, B-max = 40,490 cd/m(2), and LEmax = 8.0 cd/A). Vibration and displacement sensors need to be compact for many applications in automation or consumer electronics, and microelectromechanical structures are a convenient way to implement such sensors. For these MEMS devices, optical readout methods have proven to be superior to capacitive or piezoresistive strategies in terms of sensitivity as well as noise and interference immunity, however the integration of light sources and detectors is not easily possible. This paper presents an approach to use organic optoelectronic devices for the readout. OLED and OPD (organic photo detector) are structured on the glass substrate and cover encapsulating the MEMS devices, allowing for a tightly integrated sensor based on vertical light flux modulation by a horizontally moving proof mass. The paper describes the principle sensor structure as well as the fabrication of suitable organic devices. First test results show that the approach is feasible.

New triaryldiamines. Adm-TPD and Adm-NPD, which contain a spiro(adamantane-2,9-fluorene) core, have been synthesized and characterized. We believe that because of the presence of the rigid spiro-fluorene core, these triaryldiamines exhibit higher glass transition temperatures and have a less tendency to crystallize relative to their biphenyl analogs. Additionally, electrochemical studies showed that the planarity of the fluorene core leads to lower ionization potentials and greater degrees of pi conjugation between the two amino groups. AFM measurements demonstrated that high-quality amorphous films of Adm-NPD with good morphological stability were prepared by vapor deposition. Electroluminescent devices using Adm-NPD as a hole-transporting layer-i.e., having the configuration ITO/Adm-NPD/Alq(3)/LiF/Al-emit a bright green light that is characteristic of Alq(3).
