Item type:Item, Reproducible and Bendable SERS Substrates with Tailored Wettability Using Block Copolymers and Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates(1970-01-01) ;Lin, Yu-Liang ;Karapala, Vamsi Krishna ;Shen, Ming-Hui ;Chen, Yi-FanHe, Hung-ChiehSurface properties are essential for substrates exhibiting high sensitivity in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications. In this work, novel SERS hybrid substrates using polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) and anodic aluminum oxide templates is presented. The hybrid substrates not only possess hierarchical porous nanostructures but also exhibit superhydrophilic surface properties with the water contact angle approximate to 0 degrees. Such surfaces play an important role in providing uniform enhanced intensities over large areas (relative standard deviation approximate to 10%); moreover, these substrates are found to be highly sensitive (limit of detection approximate to 10(-12) m for rhodamine 6G (R6G)). The results show that the hybrid SERS substrates can achieve the simultaneous detection of multicomponent mixtures of different target molecules, such as R6G, crystal violet, and methylene blue. Furthermore, the bending experiments show that about 70% of the SERS intensities are maintained after bending from approximate to 30 degrees to 150 degrees.Item type:Item, Preparation of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-containing block copolymer with well-controlled stereoregularity(1970-01-01) ;Tsai, Sung-Yu ;Kuretani, Satoshi ;Manabe, Kei ;Terao, ToshikiKomamura, TakahiroPreparation of functional domains with a spacing of 10 nm is a benchmark set to fabricate next-generation electronic devices. Organic-inorganic block copolymers form well-ordered microphase separations with very small domain sizes. The design and preparation of a novel block copolymer consisting of syndiotactic polymethyl methacrylate (st-PMMA) and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-functionalized polymethacrylate, designated as st-PMMA-b-PMAPOSS, which can recognize functional molecules, are reported. The st-PMMA segments form a helical structure and encapsulate C-60 in the helical nanocavity, leading to the formation of an inclusion complex. Although the ordering of the domains is not high, C-60 domains that are in a quasi-equilibrium state, with about 10-nm domain spacings, are generated using st-PMMA-b-PMAPOSS that can recognize functional molecules. In this work, the macroscopic and microscopic effects are studied on the photophysical properties of various pyrene-ended poly(styrene-block-methyl methacrylate) nanostructures. Fluorescent polymer nanospheres, nanorods, and nanotubes are prepared by different template-based methods using anodic aluminum oxide membranes. Chain arrangements and conformations are determined as the key factors affecting the photophysical properties of the fluorescent polymer nanostructures. This work not only gives a deeper understanding of the effects on the photophysical properties of polymer nanomaterials influenced by morphologies, chain arrangements, and chain conformations, but also provides a reference for designing proper fluorescent nanostructures for specific applications.Item type:Item, Block Copolymer Micelle Nanotubes by the Solvent-Annealing-Induced Nanowetting in Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates(2015-11-01) ;Yao, I-Chun ;Cheng, Ming-Hsiang ;Chen, Jiun-Tai ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryBlock copolymer micelles are generally formed by the self-assembly of amphiphilic copolymer molecules in aqueous medium. Although different types of block copolymer micelles have been studied, the self-assembly behavior of block copolymer micelles in confined geometries have been rarely studied. In this work, the fabrication of polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) micelle nanotubes in the cylindrical nanopores of anodic aluminum oxide templates using a solvent-annealing-assisted wetting method is presented. The PS-b-P4VP chains wet the pore walls in the form of micelles when the sample is annealed in the vapor of toluene, a good solvent for PS and a nonsolvent for P4VP. The formation of the PS-b-P4VP micelle nanotubes instead of nanorods implies that the micelles wet the nanopores in the complete wetting regime. This study not only contributes to a deeper understanding of the self-assembly behavior of block polymer micelles in confined geometries, but also provides more possible variations and design freedoms in the application of block copolymer micelles.Item type:Item, Effect of surface-hydroxylated CdS nanoparticles on the morphological transformation of polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) thin films(2004-10-06) ;Yeh, SW ;Chang, YT ;Chou, CH ;Wei, KH材料科學與工程學系Polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) (SEO) block copolymer thin films, in which CdS clusters have been sequestered into the PEO domains of the SEO block copolymers, are found to induce the morphological transformation of PEO from cylinders to spheres, as shown by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This transformation is caused by the presence of hydrogen-bonding interactions between surface-hydroxylated CdS and PEO, as confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies.Item type:Item, Three-Dimensional Block Copolymer Nanostructures by the Solvent-Annealing-Induced Wetting in Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates(2014-09-01) ;Chu, Chiang-Jui ;Chung, Pei-Yun ;Chi, Mu-Huan ;Kao, Yi-HueiChen, Jiun-TaiBlock copolymers have been extensively studied over the last few decades because they can self-assemble into well-ordered nanoscale structures. The morphologies of block copolymers in confined geometries, however, are still not fully understood. In this work, the fabrication and morphologies of three-dimensional polystyrene-block-polydimethylsiloxane (PS-b-PDMS) nanostructures confined in the nanopores of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates are studied. It is discovered that the block copolymers can wet the nanopores using a novel solvent-annealing-induced nanowetting in templates (SAINT) method. The unique advantage of this method is that the problem of thermal degradation can be avoided. In addition, the morphologies of PS-b -PDMS nanostructures can be controlled by changing the wetting conditions. Different solvents are used as the annealing solvent, including toluene, hexane, and a co-solvent of toluene and hexane. When the block copolymer wets the nanopores in toluene vapors, a perpendicular morphology is observed. When the block copolymer wets the nanopores in co-solvent vapors (toluene/hexane = 3:2), unusual circular and helical morphologies are obtained. These three-dimensional nanostructures can serve as naontemplates for refilling with other functional materials, such as Au, Ag, ZnO, and TiO2.Item type:Item, Effect of incorporated CdS nanoparticles on the crystallinity and morphology of poly (styrene-b-ethylene oxide) diblock copolymers(2005-05-15) ;Yeh, SW ;Wu, TL ;Wei, KH ;Sun, YSLiang, KSSurface-modified CdS nanoparticles selectively dispersed in hexagonally packed poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) cylinders of poly(styrene-b-ethylene oxide) (PSEO) block copolymers were prepared. The photoluminescence and ultraviolet-visible characteristics of the presynthesized CdS nanoparticles in N,N-dimethylformamide and in PEO domains of the PSEO block copolymers were determined. Because of strong interactions between the CdS nanoparticles and PEO chains, as shown by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the incorporation of the CdS nanoparticles prevented the PEO cylinders from properly crystallizing; this was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry and wide-angle X-ray diffraction measurements. The intercylinder distance between the swollen and reduced-crystallinity CdS/PEO cylinders in turn increased, as confirmed by small-angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. At a high CdS concentration (43 wt % or 8.3 vol % with respect to PEO), however, the hexagonally packed cylindrical nanostructure of the PSEO diblock copolymers was destroyed. First, polystyrenes with benzyl bromide end group (PS-Br; by ATRP) were prepared as macroinitiator for the next ATRP of 4-vinyl pyridine and characterized these polymers from H-1-NMR and MALDI-TOF. Comparing with MALDI-TOF-MS, H-1-NMR and GPC analyses, this indicates that the formation of the block copolymer can be observed. During the polymerizations, molecular weight distribution and kinetics have been evaluated from GPC traces and H-1-NMR analyses. We further characterized the thermal properties of these block polymers by DSC and TGA. DSC measurement on the PS-b-P4VP block copolymers exhibited two glass transitions, indicating that the resulting block copolymers are phase separated. Two maxima differential peaks were observed on the TGA trace for the PS-b-P4VP block copolymers might be assigned to the decomposition of the P4VP blocks at 380 degrees C and the PS blocks at higher temperature.Item type:Item, Enhanced collective electron transport by CdSe quantum dots confined in the poly(4vinylpyridine) nanodomains of a poly(styrene-b-4-vinylpyridine) diblock copolymer thin film(2006) ;Li, CP ;Wei, KH ;Huang, JY ;材料科學與工程學系光電工程學系Item type:Item, Synthesis and characterization of liquid-crystalline block copolymers with cyanoterphenyl moieties by atom transfer radical polymerization(2006-08-01) ;Lee, Kuan-Wei ;Wei, Kung-Hwa ;Lin, Hong-Cheu ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringA series of new mesomorphic block copolymers composed of different macroinitiators, including poly(ethylene oxide), polystyrene, and poly(ethylene oxide)-b-polystyrene, and polymethacrylate with a pendent cyanoterphenyl group were synthesized through atom transfer radical polymerization. The number-average molecular weights of the three diblock copolymers, determined by gel permeation chromatography, were 10,254, 9,772, and 15,632 g mol(-1), and their polydispersity indices were 1.17, 1.28, and 1.34. The mesomorphic and optical properties of all the block copolymers were investigated, and they possessed a smectic A phase with mesophasic ranges wider than 100 degrees C. Moreover, X-ray diffraction patterns provided evidence of the smectic A phase and the corresponding interdigitated packing of all the polymers. (c) 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
