A single-layer substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) filtering power divider (FPD) with fully differential operation at 28 and 39 GHz is proposed in this letter. This FPD consists of three SIW cavities where the differential and common modes of each cavity were properly designed to form three-pole dual passbands, facilitate deployment of isolation resistors, and introduce transmission zeros while attaining high in-band common-mode rejection. To improve the output return loss and isolation in dual bands, a novel and simple approach to find the proper location of isolation resistors is presented. At operating frequencies, the measured differential-mode input or output return loss, minimum insertion loss, isolation, and common-mode suppression are >14.1 dB,< (3 + 2.2) dB, >14.9 dB, and >30.3 dB, respectively. The amplitude and phase imbalances between outputs are < 0.48 dB and <4.2 degrees, respectively.

This paper proposes a balanced coupler with improved phase balance and extended bandwidth for a wide range of tunable power-dividing ratios. This differential coupler uses only two varactors and can demonstrate tunable power-dividing ratio and quadrature phase difference between outputs with theoretically perfect differential-mode return loss and port isolation, and complete common-mode suppression. The coupler analysis, design equations/graph, and parametric study will be given in detail. As a proof-of-concept, a microstrip prototype operating at 1 GHz was fabricated. Measured results show that the power-dividing ratio can be tuned from -5.5 dB to 11.9 dB at the center frequency where the insertion loss is less than 0.84 dB, the phase imbalance and isolation between differential outputs are less than 3.9 degrees and greater than 23.2 dB, respectively. Moreover, the differential-mode return loss and the common-mode rejection are greater than 27.5 dB and 35.2 dB, respectively. Measured and simulated results are in good agreement.

This paper presents a balanced-to-balanced microstrip power divider with a wide range of continuously tunable power-dividing ratios for either in-phase or out-of-phase outputs. Based on simple design equations, the proposed power divider can theoretically attain ideal mixed-mode responses, including the in-phase and out-of-phase designs, for an arbitrary power ratio by a proper control of the used varactor capacitances. A single-layer power divider was prototyped and measured. Given the differential-mode return loss and output isolation greater than 15 dB, the power-dividing ratio was tuned from 11.1 dB to 24.2 dB and from 1.3 dB to 21.1 dB for the in-phase and out-of-phase outputs, respectively. For all states, the common-mode suppression achieved greater than 63.9 dB at the center frequency.

This paper presents a differential microstrip patch antenna array that operates at 122 GHz and is suitable for radar applications. The differential line was chosen in the proposed antenna due to the differential radar transceiver. The microstrip patch antenna array was designed to achieve a higher gain and bandwidth compared to a single element antenna. An 8-element series-fed array was designed, fabricated and measured. The 8-element array provides an impedance bandwidth of 14 GHz and a gain of around 13.74dBi at 122 GHz. These measurement results are also in good agreement with the simulation results.

This paper examines the beam squinting phenomenon in millimeter-wave wideband series-fed on-board arrays with respect to the number of elements and bandwidth as an inherent scanning capability. 4-element and 6-element wideband 60 GHz differential patch arrays are designed, fabricated and measured. Both arrays cover more than 6 GHz of impedance bandwidth. The 6-element array undergoes 22 degrees beam squinting over 8 GHz with 13 dBi average gain, while the 4-element array undergoes 15 degrees squinting over 6 GHz with 11 dBi average gain.

A low-power triple-push oscillator with differential output is proposed in this letter. By extracting signals from the same current loop, the oscillator can naturally provide differential output without any additional active circuit or passive balun required. Therefore, the output power can be increased and the chip area and power consumption can be reduced. Realized in 40 nm CMOS technology, the proposed oscillator can oscillate at 340.6 GHz while providing equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) as -21.8 dBm. The power consumption is only 34.1 mW from a 0.9 V supply. The oscillator core only occupies area of 0.028 mm(2).

A low-jitter digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) with multiphase differential outputs and good linearity is presented. The DCO is composed of four differential delay cells and can achieve linear tuning over a wide frequency range. The proposed fully differential delay cell comprises logic cells in standard library and varactors. The measured rms jitter and pk-pk jitter from 2.5-GHz carrier are 2.827 and 29 ps, respectively. The power consumption is 6 mW from a 1.2 V supply. An experimental prototype is designed using 65-nm CMOS technology, and the chip area is 156 mu m x 92 mu m(2).

This work presents a 147 GHz D-band fully differential amplifier design in 65 nm CMOS. By using a T-network, composed of three inductors, to replace an on-chip transformer, the proposed impedance transformation network can provide an impedance transformation ratio larger than one. So the passive gain can be acquired to increase the amplifier gain. The measured results show that the amplifier can provide power gain of 7.1 dB at 147 GHz. The power consumption is 104 mW from a 2 V supply voltage.

A broadband and scalable 2-T model is developed to accurately simulate fully symmetric inductors with various dimensions. The 2-T model is defined to reflect the structure of an equivalent circuit with two identical T-model circuits. Two-step de-embedding is assisted by open and through pads for extraction of intrinsic characteristics. The accuracy is validated by 3-D fullwave electromagnetic simulation. A novel parameter extraction flow is established, and a single set of model parameters is derived to be valid for both single-ended and differentially driven topologies. The broadband accuracy is proven by a good match with S-parameters, L(omega), Re(Z(in)(omega)),and Q(omega) over frequencies up to 20 GHz. The scalability is justified by good fitting with either a linear or a parabolic function of spiral coil radii. Furthermore, all model parameters are frequency independent so as to ensure computation efficiency. This 2-T model consistently predicts the enhancement of Q(max) by 20%-30% for the symmetric inductors under a differential excitation. The Q improvement is even better than 100% over broader frequencies beyond f(m)(Q(max)).
