In this research, we attempt to develop a tool which integrates certain common geographic information from OpenStreetMap and Open Topography into Grasshopper. We name it as OSMKIT temporarily. Besides, in order to make the integration in the design process easier, this tool includes the bilateral conversion function of coordinate in Rhinoceros 3D and the coordinate of the World Geodetic System. These characteristics bring about several possibilities for further usage. This paper contains explanations of functions and examples. For instance, it can be employed for data visualization on a map when these data contain coordinate information. Additionally, since this tool is simple and intuitive to convert points into GPS coordinates, it can make users plan drone for photogrammetry and deal with other related tasks on the rhinoceros 3D interface, helping them to gain most current urban models. Moreover, architects or designers can be not only users but also contributors for open source map system such as OpenStreetMap; the process of sharing the mode which user measure is demonstrated in this paper. To sum up, this coordinate system based tool is designed to be multifunctional and suitable for interdisciplinary usages in grasshopper.

Landfill siting requires performing spatial analyses for various factors to evaluate site suitability. A geographical information system, although capable of effectively manipulating spatial data, lacks the capability to locate an optimal site when compactness and other factors are considered simultaneously. In our previous work, a mixed-integer compactness model was proposed to overcome this difficulty. However, computational time with a conventional mixed-integer programming package for solving the model is time consuming and impractical. Therefore, in this work, a C program is developed, based on a proposed raster-based branch-and-bound algorithm. The program can implement multi-factor analyses for compactness and other siting factors with weights prespecified by the user. An example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program. A prototype network geographic information system (GIS) was developed to: (i) improve the effectiveness of a complex municipal solid waste landfill siting procedure; (ii) make siting-related information available to the general public; (iii) assist local environmental protection agencies in maintaining a GIS; and (iv) facilitate the central environmental protection agency in managing, instructing and evaluating the progress of a local siting. Siting analysis is performed with computerized mapping analysis to save time and effort of data processing. A multimedia network interface is provided for 24-hour local or remote access to the system from anywhere on the Internet. This networking capability allows a user without tools to utilize the system and to avoid the cost of system installation and training appropriate personnel to manage the system. Moreover, a case study for Miaoli is described. Environmental, social, economic and engineering feasibility issues are evaluated for the suitability of a candidate landfill site. (C) 1997 ISWA.

We describe an innovative simulation framework that combines daily commuting network data with a commonly used population-based transmission model to assess the impacts of various interventions on epidemic dynamics in Taiwan. Called the Multilayer Epidemic Dynamics Simulator (MEDSim), our proposed framework has four contact structures: within age group, between age groups, daily commute, and nationwide interaction. To test model flexibility and generalizability, we simulated outbreak locations and intervention scenarios for the 2009 swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) epidemic. Our results indicate that lower transmission rates and earlier intervention activation times did not reduce total numbers of infected cases, but did delay peak times. When the transmission rate was decreased by a minimum of 70%, significant epidemic peak delays were observed when interventions were activated before new case number 50; no significant effects were noted when the transmission rate was decreased by less than 30%. Observed peaks occurred more quickly when initial outbreaks took place in urban rather than rural areas. According to our results, the MEDSim provides insights that reflect the dynamic processes of epidemics under different intervention scenarios, thus clarifying the effects of complex contact structures on disease transmission dynamics.
